Sunday Million: Admiral19793 earns top rank, $153k

From the jump, this final table was a battle between two big stacks-- Russia's Admiral19793 and Germany's GrekoGreg. Between the two of them, they knocked out the entire final table and traded off the chip lead for most of it. While GrekoGreg along with short stack solanj was interested in making a three-handed deal, Admiral19793 forged ahead without a net and got heads-up with GrekoGreg at nearly even chip counts. While these two could have easily played into the early morning, heads-up was instead a rapid exchange of firepower that ended with a 43.3 milllion-chip coinflip. Admiral19793's A♠Q♣ won the race against GrekoGreg's pocket eights and the 2016 WCOOP runner-up at last grabbed the top spot, earning a Sunday Million title and over $153k.

5,107 players entered this week's Sunday Million, taking the prize pool up to a guarantee-busting $1,021.400.00. 845 places were paid with $153,203.20 up top.

Following eleven and a half hours of action, the blinds were up to 100,000/200,000 and ten players remained. Chip leader solanj, recently emboldened by eliminating 12th-place finisher FoNZ87, opened for a min-raise to 400,000 from UTG and Star88388 moved all-in for 2 million from the small blind. Solanj called, his A♣9♦ racing with pocket sixes. Unfortunately for Star88388, solanj flopped and ace and turned trips on the A♠7♥4♦A♥2♥ board, and his run came to an end on the final table bubble.

Final table chip counts

Seat 1: klinger63 (1,469,596 in chips)
Seat 2: 2outs 1river (5,318,780 in chips)
Seat 3: solanj (12,209,514 in chips)
Seat 4: GrekoGreg (8,843,583 in chips)
Seat 5: BOOM_shark85 (5,203,699 in chips)
Seat 6: FishmeNL (4,518,069 in chips)
Seat 7: Admiral19793 (8,535,248 in chips)
Seat 8: FmoraesP (2,903,288 in chips)
Seat 9: Stubastian (2,068,223 in chips)

On the fifth hand of play, the final table lost its first player when klinger63 open-shoved for 1.8 million from UTG with A♠9♥. GrekoGreg three-bet to 3.5 million from middle position, and everyone got out of the way of his J♣J♥. Ace-nine didn't work out as well for kilnger63 as it did for solanj-- GrekoGreg made a set of jacks on the Q♣J♦8♥5♦9♣ board and klinger63 was out in ninth place.

Three hands later, the blinds were up to 125,000/250,000 and the action folded around to FmoraesP. He opened for 500,000 from the hijack and GrekoGreg defended his big blind. Both players checked the Q♠9♥6♦ flop, but when the K♣ turned, GrekoGreg led out for 742,000. FmoraesP called and they went to the river, which fell the 8♥. GrekoGreg bet 2,191,020 and FmoraesP called all-in for slightly less. FmoraesP turned over J♠J♦, but they were no good in the face of GrekoGreg's 9♦9♠ for a flopped set, and he hit the rail in eighth place.

With those two consecutive KOs, GrekoGreg took over the chip lead with 15.9 million. However, he was knocked down a peg when he called down Admiral19793's turn and river bets on an A♣A♥3♣5♣4♠ board. Admiral19793 turned over A♠Q♣ for trips and raked in a 6.4 million pot, leaving GrekoGreg on 13.3 million. Then, one orbit later, the action folded around to Admiral19793 in the small blind. He moved all-in on a steal for 12 million with 5♦8♣, but Stubastian found A♠J♦ in the big blind and called. All looked good for Stubastian on the K♣J♥9♠ flop as he paired his jack, but the 7♥ turn gave Admiral19793 a gutshot straight draw. Miraculously, he filled it on the turn with the T♠ and instead of doubling up, Stubastian was out in seventh place. Admiral19793 moved up to 14.5 million and assumed the chip lead, with GrekoGreg down to 12.9 million.

With the blinds up to 150,000/300,000, FishmeNL was the shortest stack remaining with little more than 10BB. The action folded around to him in the small blind and with K♦7♦ he moved all-in for 3.12 million. Unfortunately, Admiral19793 was lying in wait with A♠K♣ in the big blind. Both players flopped kings on the K♥T♦4♠6♠8♦ board, but Admiral19793 won the kicker war, ending FishmeNL's run in sixth place.

Tied at this point with two final table KO's apiece, Admiral19793 and GrekoGreg were still one-two in the counts when solanj opened for 600,000 from UTG. GrekoGreg raised to 1.35 million, BOOM_shark85 folded the button and Admiral19793 cold four-bet to 2,998,665 fro the small blind. Solanj folded, GrekoGreg five-bet to 6,000,000 and Admiral19793 called. The flop came down 7♦6♣2♣ and Admiral19793 checked to GrekoGreg, who bet 5.1 million. Admiral19793 gave up his hand and conceded to 13 million-chip pot to GrekoGreg, who moved up to 24 million in chips. Admiral19793 was left with 9.2 million.

Five hands later, the blinds were up to 175,000/350,000 and BOOM_shark85 opened for 700,000. 2outs 1river three-bet shoved for 5.4 million and BOOM_shark85 called, only to find his Q♥Q♣ crushed by 2outs 1 river's K♣K♠. The 8♣5♦3♠ flop was safe for 2outs 1river, and when the 4♣ turned, BOOM_shark85 was down to just that, two outs with just the river to come. BOOM, it was the Q♦ and BOOM_shark85 lived to fight another day with his 8.2 million in chips. 2outs 1 river was left with 1.66 million and went out in fifth place on the next hand when his K♣8♦ did not improve against GrekoGreg's A♠Q♠.

Later in the same level the action folded around to BOOM_shark85, who opened A♠8♣ for 700,000. Admiral19793 three-bet shoved for 8.23 million from the big blind an BOOM_shark85 called. Admiral19793 only had J♥2♥ and was in poor shape after the K♣9♣7♥ flop. The K♠ turn was no help to Admiral19793, but the river 2♠ saved the day and BOOM_shark85 was suddenly on the rail in fourth place.

When three-handed play commenced, GrekoGreg was still the chip leader with 24.4 million, Admiral19793 was second with 14.5 million and solanj was the short stack with 12.1 million. Solanj suggested that they look at numbers for a potential deal and while GrekoGreg was amenable to it, Admiral19793 never responded to the query. Shortly thereafter, things went downhill quickly for solanj, who lost more than half his stack when Admiral19793 flopped a straight with 3♠4♦ and got two streets of value. Left with 5.3 million, solanj got the rest of his chips in before the flop on the next hand, his A♣7♥ up against Admiral19793's 8♣9♠. The 7♦6♠3♦ flop made solanj top pair, but Admiral19793 picked up an open-ended straight draw. The 8♠ turn was a disaster as Admiral19793 made a pair of eights and the 5♠ river was even worse as Admiral19793 filled his nine-high straight. Solanj was out in third place, sending Admiral19793 and GrekoGreg to heads-up play with very close stacks.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 4: GrekoGreg (25,105,966 in chips)
Seat 7: Admiral19793 (25,964,034 in chips)

Admiral19793 took control early in the heads-up match, winning six hands in a row including a 9.5 million-chip pot. In that confrontation, GrekoGreg opened for 1,000,000 on the button and Admiral19793 called from the big blind. Both players checked the Q♦8♣5♣ flop. When the Q♠ turned, Admiral19793 checked again and GrekoGreg bet 1,000,000. Admiral19793 called. The river was the A♠ and Admiral19793 checked a third time. GrekoGreg made it 2,692,800 to go and Admiral19793 called. GrekoGreg was on a stone bluff with J♠7♥, only jack-high to go with the pair of queens and the ace on board, but remarkably, Admiral19793 had only K♦7♦ for king high and moved up to 31.5 million in chips.

A few minutes later, the blinds were up to 250,000/500,000. Admiral19793 had fallen back to 29.4 million when GrekoGreg opened for 1,000,000 on the button. Admiral19793 three-bet to 2,856,772, GrekoGreg four-bet to 5.25 million, Admiral19793 shoved and GrekoGreg called.

Admiral19793 A♠Q♣
GrekoGreg 8♠8♥

It all came down to a coinflip, and it landed on Admiral19793's side as the flop came down Q♦6♣4♣. GrekoGreg got no help from the K♥ turn or the 5♠ river and with his pair of queens, Admiral19793 locked up the win.

Congratulations to Admiral19793 on joining the ranks of Sunday Million champions! He banked $154,203.20 for the win, while runner-up GrekoGreg earned $107,510.92.
