Sunday Million: Five-way chop leads to victory for Lincownz, top dollar for ya3thabe

It was a British invasion at the final table of this week's Million as four of our nine finalists played under the Union Jack. While greeno99 and deanjlfc went out in ninth and sixth places respectively, Martinelly09 and ya3thabe made it to the final five, who agreed to a chip chop to split up all but $20,000 of the remaining prize pool. Martinelly09 hung on to finish third, setting up a heads-up match between last Brit standing ya3thabe and Brazil's Lincownz. On their second hand heads-up, ya3thabe made a huge bluff-raise on the river, but Lincownz found a call with top pair, no kicker on a rather dangerous-looking board and took a commanding lead. Lincownz closed out the win and took down the title and $128k, but thanks to the deal, ya3thabe came away with the lion's share of the prize pool.

A strong crowd of 5,912 players came out for this week's Million, driving the total prize pool up to $1,182,400.00. 953 spots were paid with $177,201.86 up top.

Eleven and a half hours after cards went in the air, blinds were up to 100,000/200,000 and the field down to ten players. The action folded around to xxxALBxxx on the button, who moved in for his last 2.35 million with A♥2♣. Ya3thabe called from the big blind with K♦Q♦. Although xxxALBxxx paired his deuce on the 8♥3♠2♠ flop and hit a safe turn card with the 9♦, ya3thabe spiked the K♥ on the river and took down the pot, ending xxxALBxxx's run on the final table bubble.

Final table chip counts

Seat 1: Nuthshell (2,442,818 in chips)
Seat 2: Martinelly09 (11,920,090 in chips)
Seat 3: flukert (7,830,957 in chips)
Seat 4: deanjlfc (5,393,370 in chips)
Seat 5: greeno99 (3,473,980 in chips)
Seat 6: ya3thabe (10,039,593 in chips)
Seat 7: Mysters_Y (6,339,478 in chips)
Seat 8: ExtremeUA (2,854,454 in chips)
Seat 9: Lincownz (8,825,260 in chips)

Both short stacks doubled up straight away-- ExtremeUA through chip leader Martinelly09 when his A♥7♥ held up against A♣2♣, and Nuthshell when his A♥6♠ snapped off flukert's pocket jacks. This gave way to more than thirty minutes of nine-handed play before greeno99 made it 600,000 to go from the button and ya3thabe called from the small blind. The flop fell K♦6♦4♣ and ya3thabe led out for 1.8 million only to be met with a 2.23 million shove from greeno99. Ya3thabe called, his flush draw with Q♦T♦ up against A♦A♠. The J♦ turn filled it and the K♣ river sent greeno99 to the rail in ninth place. The hand took ya3thabe up to 14.3 million, good for second in chips behind Lincownz's 14.7 million.

With the blinds up to 150,000/300,000, Nuthshell landed back on the short stack with 3.43 million. Following an opening raise to 690,000 from ya3thabe, Nuthshell looked down at A♦4♦ in the big blind and three-bet shoved. Ya3thabe called with A♥T♠. Ya3thabe's kicker played on the J♦9♥2♥8♦K♥ board and Nuthshell exited in eighth place.

Moments later, PokerStars Team Online alumnus Tatiana "Mysters_Y" Barausova made her last stand by moving in from the small blind with K♠J♣. ExtremeUA called with K♥7♥ from the big and was dominated, but hit running hearts on the A♠8♠8♥T♥9♥ board to make a flush. Barausova departed in seventh place for a career-best finish in the Million.

Next to put his tournament life on the line was deanjlfc, who found A♦2♦ under-the-gun and moved in for 3.32 million, just short of ten big blinds. Unfortunately for him, flukert woke up with A♥K♦ in the big blind and hit a king on the flop, ending deanjlfc's run in sixth place.

A few hands later, the remaining five agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here's how they stacked up as negotiations began:

ya3thabe 20,581,745
Lincownz 15,405,221
flukert 11,001,548
Martinelly09 7,188,100
ExtremeUA 4,943,386

While chip leader ya3thabe's chip chop share came in at $131k, he opened up with an ask for $140k. When that demand didn't exactly go over well, he dropped the price to $135k. Ya3thabe didn't get any takers at that number either, with Lincownz holding fast to the chip chop proposal. Flukert piped in and commented, "u are just being greedy," to which ya3thabe smartly replied, "u won't get if you won't ask."

Ultimately, ya3thabe relented and accepted the chip chop deal. With $20,000 still up for grabs to the winner, cards went back in the air.

ExtremeUA wasn't long for the tournament after the deal break and moved in for his remaining 3.12 million with A♦Q♦. Martinelly09 called from the big blind with K♠J♣. A king hit the K♥T♥4♠ flop giving the advantage to Martinelly09, but ExtremeUA picked up a gutshot straight draw. The 9♣ turn didn't fill it, nor did the 6♠ river and ExtremeUA hit the rail in fifth place.

Flukert was next to fall. He found 8♥8♦ and made it 932,000 to go, Lincownz three-bet to 2.7 milion and flukert four-bet shoved for 13.2 million. Lincownz called with A♣K♣. In this 26 million-chip flip, the coin landed on Lincownz's side with an ace on the turn, as flukert went out in fourth place. Then, on the very next deal, ya3thabe raised to 880,000 and Martinelly09 moved in for 5.31 million from the big blind. Ya3thabe called, his Q♣J♣ up against K♦T♠. The Q♥J♥6♣ flop made ya3thabe top two pair, but Martinelly09 picked up an open-ended straight draw. However, the J♠ turn filled up ya3thabe and left Martinelly09 drawing dead. The river was the meaningless 2♠ and Martinelly09 left in third place, sending us to our heads-up match for the title.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 6: ya3thabe (27,446,731 in chips)
Seat 9: Lincownz (31,673,269 in chips)

These two didn't waste any time and on the second hand of heads-up, ya3thabe opened for 880,000 and Lincownz called. Both players checked the K♠Q♣T♦ flop. When the 7♣ turned, Lincownz made it 1,176,000 to go and ya3thabe called. The river was the 3♦ and Lincownz fired again, this time 2,724,800. Ya3thabe raised to 12.3 million and Lincownz called. Ya3thabe turned over only 2♣4♣ for a busted flush draw and Lincownz raked the pot with K♥5♥ for a pair of kings. Lincownz moved up to 44.9 million while ya3thabe was left with 14.2 million.

Not much had changed in terms of the chip counts when Lincownz picked up A♦7♣ on the button and opened for 1.25 million. Ya3thabe moved in for 11.9 million and Lincownz called. Ya3thabe's K♣7♠ was dominated and it was all but over on the A♥8♥2♣ flop as Lincownz made top pair. The turn came the 8♦ making Lincownz aces and eights, and the 5♦ river locked up his first Sunday Million title.

Congratulations to Lincownz on joining the ranks of Sunday Million champions! He banked $128,620.08 for the win. However, thanks to the five-handed deal, runner-up ya3thabe came away with the largest share of the prize pool at $131,459.15.
