Super Tuesday 10/12/10: Jakoon1985 comes from behind to triumph

Tonight's edition of the Super Tuesday topped it's $300,000 guarantee when a field of 410 players created a prize pool of $410,000, with the final 54 players reaching the money.

Unfortunately for Team PokerStars players, none finished within a sniff of the money, as Team Asia Pro Tae Joon Noh the highest placed finisher in 101st place.

The final table was established with the blinds at 2,000/4,000 with an ante of 500. Action had folded around to the button when NigDawG made a raise from the button to 8,880. From the big blind, Brandon78 re-raised to 24,000 total, then NigDawG four-bet shoved for their remaining 110,701 in chips with A♥T♥. Brandon78 called, showing 9♦9♠ and the race was on. After the board was dealt: 8♥ 5♠ K♦ 7♣ 6♦, Brandon78 had an unnecessary straight, while NigDawG bubbled the final table, earning $5,330.00 for finishing in 10th place, while the remaining players gathered around the final table with their chip counts as follows:

Seat 1: PITU_poker (270,240 in chips)
Seat 2: Brandon "Brandon78" Adams (395,154 in chips)
Seat 3: jakoon1985 (579,331 in chips)
Seat 4: gregior (88,653 in chips)
Seat 5: supfoolio (137,882 in chips)
Seat 6: Jossel2008 (274,298 in chips)
Seat 7: marcolina (77,748 in chips)
Seat 8: Nick " I Spew Chips" Phillips (166,372 in chips)
Seat 9: BillChapel (60,322 in chips)

The first hand of the final table was the last hand for supfoolio. In a battle of the blinds, supfoolio raised from the small blind to 9,875, while Jossel2008 re-raised to 20,000 total. Supfoolio then four-bet shoved for their remaining 137,382 with K♦Q♦, as Jossell2008 snap-called with Q♣Q♠. The board ran out 5♥ T♣ 9♠ 5♠ 3♠ with supfoolio earning ninth place money of $6,806.

The eighth place finisher was gregior, doubling up marcolina on the previous hand and left with just 655 in chips. The blinds were now at 2,400/4,800 with an ante of 600, but any plans of a miracle comeback were quickly taken care of when Jossel2008's K♠4♠ bested gregior's J♠2♦ on a board of 9♣ 6♠ 8♠ 4♥ 8♣ as gregior cashed for $9,225.

With the blinds now up to 2,800/5,600 with an ante of 700, Jossel2008 min-raised from UTG with A♠K♥, followed by BillChapel shoved from the cut-off with 5♦5♠ for 59,822 in chips as Jossel2008 made the call. The flop was safe for BillChapel, coming down 2♦ 6♥ 7♣. However, the K♠ on the turn moved Jossel2008 into the lead, and the 3♥ didn't change anything, as BillChapel collected $13,325 for the seventh place finish.

Play continued six-handed for over an hour when Jossel2008 became the sixth place finisher. The blinds were now at 4,500/9,000 with an ante of 1,125 when PITU_Poker opened from the cut-off to 22,500, as jakoon1985 called from the small blind and Jossel2008 shoved from the big blind for 282,616 as PITU_Poker called and jakoon1985 decided to fold. When the cards were revealed, PITU_Poker's A♣Q♥ dominated Jossel2008's K♣Q♣. The flop gave Jossel2008 an open-ended straight draw, J♠ T♣ 7♥, but the 6♠ turn and 3♦ river meant a payday of $17,425 for finishing in sixth.

A few hands later, I Spew Chips knocked out marcolina in 5th place, earning $22,960. Marcolina started the action in the final hand by raising from UTG+1 to 27,000 with A♦Q♣ as I Spew Chips re-raised to 69,995 with 9♣9♠ with marcolina making the call. On a flop of K♦ 7♦ Q♥ moved all-in for their remaining 76,145 with I Spew Chips making the call. The double-up marcolina was expecting was not meant to be as the 9♥ on the turn gave I Spew Chips a set of nines, earning the checkmark and sending marcolina to the virtual rail.

Fourth place would be the finishing position for Brandon "Brandon78" Adams. The blinds were now at 6,000/12,000 with an ante of 1,500 when action started with jakoon1985 min-raising from UTG holding K♥T♣. Folded around to Brandon78, going all-in for 130,671 from the big blind with A♣Q♦ as jakoon1985 made the call. The flop was beneficial to jakoon1985: 3♠ T♦ 9♣ and the K♦ on the turn left Brandon78 drawing to four jacks. The 3♦ on the river wasn't good enough, as the high-stakes veteran added $32,800 to his bankroll.

The chip lead would be passed around to all three players, with I Spew Chips holding over half of the chips at one point. It appeared that play would soon be heads-up as he had jakoon1985 all-in pre-flop. Here's how that hand played out:

While that hand still left jakoon1985 in third place, he went on a rush to eventually move into the chip lead once again. The blinds were now at 10,000/20,000 with an ante of 2,500 with PITU_Poker down to 102,320 in chips after being crippled the hand before when I Spew Chips pocket fours flopped a set against pocket kings. On the next hand, PITU_Poker open-shoved with K♥9♥ and jakoon1985 called with Q♥8♥. The flop hit jakoon1985 hard, coming down Q♦ 6♥ 8♠ for a flopped two pair. PITU_Poker needed a lot of help, and it came when the K♦ on the turn giving him the remaining kings, sixes and nines for a win. However, the 5♥ came on the river gave PITU_Poker a third place finish, good for $43,050 as the tournament finally got to heads-up play with jakoon1985 held a 13-7 chip lead.

I Spew Chips tried in vain to retake the chip lead, but play lasted just a few minutes with jakoon1985 widening the chip lead, holding all but 387,503 in chips. Jakoon1985 min-raised from the small blind to 40,000 as I Spew Chips shoved from the big blind holding J♥9♦. Jakoon1985 made the call with A♥7♠, hoping to end the tournament on this hand. The 6♦ 8♣ 2♦ flop kept jakoon1985 in the lead, which didn't change on the 2♠ turn and 6♠ river meant ace high was good enough for jakoon1985 to take down this week's Super Tuesday, good for $78,679. I Spew Chips pockets $58,425 for the runner-up finish.
