Super Tuesday 10/5/2010 - AK87 dominates final table, eliminates every player for victory
The first Super Tuesday of October drew 385 players willing to part with $1,000+50, creating a total prize pool of $385,000. With the elimination of JBT449 in 46th place, the remaining 45 players had made the money. A number of Team PokerStars pros participated in the tournament, including USA's Victor Ramdin, Argentina's Veronica "princesa" Dabul, Mexico's Angel Guillén, and Team Asia's Tae Joon Noh, finishing just short of the money in 48th.
The only player to make the money however, was Team Canada's Anh Von Nguyen (below), bursting the final table bubble with A♠A♦ against roo_400's A♣Q♣ in an all-in confrontation pre-flop. The board ran out Q♥ 6♣ 5♥ 9♠ A♥, leaving roo_400 to earn $5,775.00 in 10th place.
Here's how the final table was situated on table 23 when play resumed with the blinds at 2,000/4000 with an ante of 500:
Seat 1: A Van Nguyen (306,392 in chips)
Seat 2: mastert55 (240,140 in chips)
Seat 3: pokerpro63rd (94,362 in chips)
Seat 4: respect82 (294,272 in chips)
Seat 5: Kyle "kwob20" Bowker (189,700 in chips)
Seat 6: ronaldgrauer (146,545 in chips)
Seat 7: AK87 (424,022 in chips)
Seat 8: caipsa (116,233 in chips)
Seat 9: Joao M. (113,334 in chips)
The final tablists were able to get comfortable in their seats, as the first elimination took place over 30 minutes into play. The blinds were now at 2,800/5,600 with an ante of 700 as action folded around to AK87 on the button, making a min-raise to 11,200. Caipsa called from the small blind, while Joao M. moved all in from the big blind for 105,279 total with A♥5♥. Holding A♠A♦, AK87 insta-called, while caipsa got out of the way. The flop gave Joao M. a chance at doubling up: A♣ 2♣ 4♠, but the turn and river were no help, coming down Q♠7♠ as Joao M. earns $6737.50 for the 9th place finish.
A few hands later, as the blinds had now moved to 3,200/6,400 with an ante of 800, AK87 would also eliminated the 8th place finisher. Ronaldgrauer shoved with their final 77,737 in chips with A♥4♠, only to be called by AK87 on the button with A♣J♣ as the blinds folded. The board ran out T♠ 6♦ 8♥ 5♠ 3♥, leaving ronaldgrauer to cash in for $9,240.00
In a familiar story by now, AK87 would be a part of another elimination, and again it would be pocket rockets that were the hand in the lead. The levels had increased now to 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante as mastert55 open-shoved for 75,090 with A♥3♦. only to learn that AK87 woke up with A♠A♦ in the big blind, making the ridiculously easy call. Five cards were dealt out: 2♠ 4♦ 6♥ 7♣ 4♥ and mastert55 was sent to the virtual rail to have an additional $13,090.00 appear in their account for finishing in 7th place.
Next, it would be Kyle "kwob20" Bowker's turn to feel AK87's wrath. Bowker, a 3rd place finisher at the EPT London Main Event for £300,000 earlier this week, raised from UTG to 17,000. This was followed by a re-raise by AK87 to 39,400, then Bowker shoved for their remaining 288,000 with 5♠5♥. However, AK87 had another big hand, Q♣Q♠. The five cards dealt out: T♦ 2♠ 8♣ A♠ K♦ meant it was Bowker's turn to leave the table, adding another $16,940 to his impressive resume of live and tournament winnings.
As the final table played out, while AK87 was knocking out all the players, respect82 was winning some large pots, as the two traded the chip lead while the others were struggling to move up the payouts. The blinds had now moved to 5,000/10,000 with an ante of 1,250, with action folding to AK87 on the button with 5♦4♦, betting enough to force caipsa all-in from the small blind if they wished to call. Holding A♣7♠ and just
73,431 in chips, caipsa quickly called. However, AK87 was also able to win from behind, as the flop came down 2♦ 5♠ 4♥ for top two pair. Caipsa was drawing slim, as the 9♠ turn and J♠ on the river gave AK87 the checkmark once again, as caipsa won $21,945.00 for 5th place.
A few hands later, Anh Van Nguyen, the short stack with just 108,780 in chips, moved in over AK87's min-raise with K♦T♦, as AK87 made the call with the best hand, K♠J♠. The flop gave Van Nguyen much hope: 9♣ 4♦ J♦ for the gutshot and flush draws. But those hopes were dashed on the 4♠ turn and 9♥ river meant a payday of $31762.50 for the Canadian member of Team PokerStars.
AK87 continued the rungood with the elimination of pokerpro63rd in 3rd place. AK87 min-raised from UTG while pokerpro63rd moved in from the small blind with 2♦2♣. AK87 held A♥J♥ and it was off to the races. But like the earlier hands at the final table, AK87 would take the lead right away with the 6♦ 5♥ A♦ flop. Drawing to few outs, the 4♥ turn and A♠ river left pokerpro63rd to move up 60 spots today, cashing in for $42350.00.
AK87 started heads-up play with the chip lead, and a suggestion by respect82 to chop up the money was quickly denied. Respect82 was able to take the chip lead briefly when making a flush on the river, but AK87 would regain lead a short time later on this hand:
The final hand of the tournament had AK87 holding a 3-1 chip lead as the blinds were now at 6,000/12,000 with an ante of 1,500. AK87 min-raised from the small blind as respect82 made the call. On the flop of K♦ 5♦ 9♦, respect82 checked, while AK87 bet 24,000. This was followed by a check-raise by respect82 to 60,000, while AK87 re-raised to 128,000 with respect82 making the call. The turn was the A♠ with respect82 check-raising all-in for their remaining 330,275 as AK87 called. Respect82 had flopped a flush with T♦6♦, but AK87 flopped a higher flush, holding Q♦2♦. The river was an irrelevant 7♠ as respect82 earned $55,825 for the runner-up finish while AK87 eliminated all of his opponents, collecting $74497.50 at this week's Super Tuesday tournament.
