Latvian hlamberg hooked a win for June 28 Super Tuesday

Super Tuesday logo.pngMany eyes were on PokerStars, as is typical for any given day of the week. But some eyes were also on Las Vegas, where Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari was playing a tense heads-up match for a World Series of Poker bracelet.

The result? Akkari stole the show. He won his first WSOP gold bracelet and $675,117 in cash. Check out the story here, which explains why this is such an important day for Akkari, Brazil, and the PokerStars team.

Meanwhile, in the world of online poker, the Super Tuesday was in progress and looking toward the final stages of the tournament.

Starting at the beginning, the $1,050 event drew 247 players for the $150K Guarantee, but the number of players pushed the prize pool up to $247,000. That allowed the top 36 players to be paid with more than $50,000 set aside for the first place finisher.

In the field were a few members of PokerStars' Team Online. Alexis "J0hnny_Dr@m@" Zervos was the first of the group to be eliminated in 175th place, and Anders "Donald" Berg headed out later in 115th place.

The last one standing was Grayson "spacegravy" Physioc, who held his ground all the way into the money and on to the last two tables of the tournament.

And as the seventh hour approached, hand-for-hand play brought action to a hand that started with a raising war between donvin21 and spacegravy. Finally, donvin21 pushed all-in with A♦3♦, and spacegravy called with 8♠8♣. There was no ace on the 9♣6♠Q♥Q♣T♣ board, and donvin21 - who made the final table last week and finished fifth - exited this week in tenth place with $3,952.00.

TiltMeHarder looking to tilt everyone out

In the middle of Level 25, with blinds at 1,400/2,800 and a 350 ante, the final table got underway with these chip counts:

Seat 1: scs75 (147,394 in chips)
Seat 2: I_M_ICM (86,499 in chips)
Seat 3: TiltMeHarder (275,628 in chips)
Seat 4: hlamberg (157,056 in chips)
Seat 5: Garnerus (103,900 in chips)
Seat 6: elfloga1979 (75,625 in chips)
Seat 7: VeinRuni (128,155 in chips)
Seat 8: spacegravy (131,481 in chips)
Seat 9: sukin12 (129,262 in chips)

It only took until the second hand to see serious action. It started with a raise from spacegravy and reraise from Garnerus in the small blind. Elfloga1979 pushed all-in from the big blind, prompting a fold from spacegravy, but Garnerus called with A♥K♠. Elfloga1979 showed T♥T♦, and the race was on. But the flop of 3♦6♥A♣ gave Garnerus the pair of aces, which held up to the 7♥ turn and 4♠ river. Elfloga1979 was gone in ninth place with $4,693.00.

Then it was scs75 trying to take the lead, and it was this hand that made it happen:

Just a few hands later, TiltMeHarder was below 130K and made the all-in push with J♥J♣, but scs75 was right there to make the call with A♦K♦. The board of 8♠K♠T♣2♣5♥ gave scs75 the better hand, and TiltMeHarder was out just like that, with $6,175.00 for eighth place.

Spacegravy was having a difficult time staying afloat, though a double through VeinRuni helped. Still on the short stack, though, spacegravy pushed all-in a few hands later with A♥J♥ from the small blind. Original raiser scs75 called with 7♦7♥, and nothing on the 8♦K♦K♥9♠T♣ board could help spacegravy. That left Team Online's Grayson "spacegravy" Physioc out in seventh place with $8,645.00.

Garnerus disconnects and reconnects

Some players were finding some good times at the table during six-handed play, as VeinRuni doubled through scs75, I_M_ICM doubled through Garnerus, and hlamberg did the same through sukin12.

Garnerus was having difficulties in the form of disconnection. Other players were patient, and the clock was stopped for the disconnections. But when Garnerus did find that connection, other players would feel the wrath.

Other players were becoming aggressive as well. VeinRuni pushed all-in on the short stack with A♥8♥ from the big blind, looking for some chips. But original raiser scs75called with A♦T♦, a hand that stood up to the 4♦7♦6♠9♣J♠ board . That left VeinRuni out in sixth place with $11,115.00.

Shortly after, sukin12 made a move with K♦T♥, but Garnerus was the caller holding A♥J♥. The board of 2♠A♦9♠K♥9♥ brought each player two pair, but aces and nines took it. Sukin12 - winner of the recent May 17 Super Tuesday - was out in fifth place in this one with $14,326.00.

I_M_ICM was the next short stack to risk it all, and it happened preflop with A♦J♥. Hlamberg called with K♦K♣, and the board of T♦4♦K♠7♥A♣ produced a set for hlamberg. I_M_ICM was out in fourth place with $20,995.00.

Arduous deal talks lead to agreement

It took an inordinate amount of time to come to a deal, but the final three players did it! The final numbers were agreed upon as follows:

Seat 1: scs75 (359,933 in chips) = $35,540.77
Seat 4: hlamberg (368,424 in chips) = $39,000.00
Seat 5: Garnerus (506,643 in chips) = $40,931.73

After the deal, play resumed, but the players seemed confused about having to continue with the tournament. The situation seemed new to all three of them, and they continually used their time banks to ask questions of the moderator. Finally, they decided that they must need to play it out.

So, they did.

And from there, it was scs75 on the shortest stack of the three. Scs75 got involved with both players to see a 4♦Q♣T♥ flop, at which point Garnerus bet and scs75 raised. Hlamberg folded, and more raises led to Garnerus challenging with an all-in move. Scs75 called all-in with Q♥J♣ for top pair, but Garnerus showed Q♦T♠ for top two pair. The 4♠ turn and 9♦ flop eliminated scs75 from the tournament in third place with $35,540.77.

Two fighters fight it out

The last two players were not about to give up on the title, so they began to battle with these starting stacks:

Seat 4: hlamberg (389,424 in chips)
Seat 5: Garnerus (845,576 in chips)

Hlamberg took some big hands to even the stacks and even climb a bit ahead.

And with this hand, hlamberg moved into a significant lead:

Seven hands later, the two got involved again. A raise and call led to the 8♦5♦K♣ flop. Another raise from hlamberg started a battle that ended with Garnerus moving all-in with K♥7♠ for top pair, but hlamberg showed the all-powerful A♠A♣. The 6♦ turn and 2♠ river ended it with Garnerus taking second place and $40,931.73.

Hlamberg of Latvia won the Super Tuesday and $39,000.00 in cash. Congrats!
