Super Tuesday 3/15/11: KAMKAM cleans up, earns over $77,000
The Ides of March were upon the 401 players entered in this week's Super Tuesday on PokerStars, created a prize pool of $401,000 to be distributed among the final 45 players. Who would wind up with the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?
Some members of Team PokerStars who participated in tonight's Super Tuesday included Chris "Money800" Moneymaker, Vanessa "LadyMaverick" Rousso, Maxim Lykov and Chad Brown. Only one player would wind up in the money as Mer "PeachyMer" Brit finished in 39th place.
The ten remaining players were hoping to claim one of the final nine seats at the final table as the blinds had just reached level 29 with blinds at 2,400/4,800 with an ante of 600. Action folded around to PKaiser on the button, raising to 9,999. From the small blind, Allanon85 moved in for their remaining 104,675 in chips and after the big blind folded PKaiser made the call. When the cards were revealed, PKaiser was in the lead with A♥J♦ while Allanon85 needed some help as they held K♦T♦. The flop came down 3♣ 9♥ 6♣, but the K♥ the lead to Allanon85 only having to avoid the remaining three aces in the deck to double up. But like Barry Greenstein's book, the A♠ on the river was a dagger to the heart of Allanon85, as off to the rail in 10th place for $6,015.00 was the consolation prize as the final table was now set. Here's how the final table was seated:
Seat 1: Griffin "Flush_Entity" Benger (270,788 in chips)
Seat 2: Joseph "hoodini10" Udine (189,045 in chips)
Seat 3: KAMKAM (465,335 in chips)
Seat 4: engelberth.v (58,399 in chips)
Seat 5: Nicolas "PKaiser" Fierro (378,926 in chips)
Seat 6: Alex "AJKHoosier1" Kamberis (142,358 in chips)
Seat 7: RAZA14 (161,246 in chips)
Seat 8: Tristan "Cre8ive" Wade (65,734 in chips)
Seat 9: leguito (273,169 in chips)
The final table started out slowly with the first elimination not happening for a couple of levels. The first player eliminated would be Tristan "Cre8ive" Wade, earning $7,017.50 for his efforts. The blinds were now at 3,200/6,400 with a running ante of 800 as Wade opened with a raise all-in for his remaining 35,034 in chips with A♥4♥. He was called immediately by leguito with T♣T♥ as the rest of the table folded. Wade was able to flop a flush draw: 9♥ J♥ 8♠, but the T♠ turn and 5♣ river were no good as his stack was now in the hands of leguito as play continued with eight players remaining.
The 8th place finisher was engleberth.v, the winner of the last Super Tuesday in 2010. The last hand started with engleberth.v shoving their last 61,498 chips into the middle from UTG with 8♦8♠ as PKaiser instantly called with 9♥9♠. The board ran out Q♦ 5♦ 5♠ 9♣ Q♣ to send engleberth.v to the virtual pay window to collect $9,624.00.
The next player dispatched from the final table was Joseph "hoodini10" Udine, earning $13,634.00 for his 7th place finish. The blinds were now at 3,600/7,200 with the ante at 900 chips as Udine opened from the button to 18,250 with 7♠7♣. PKaiser re-raised to 55,555 holding T♣T♠, then Udine shipped it for 162,565 as PKaiser made the call. The board ran out 4♠ 9♦ 8♣ 3♥ 5♦ as the field was now condensed to a six-pack of contenders for the first prize winnings of over $77,000.
Just before the :55 break, the blinds were now at 4,000/8,000 with an ante of 1,000 as Alex "AJKHoosier1" Kamberis saw a chance to double up. Holding Q♠Q♥ from UTG +1 Kamberis moved in for his last 96,174 in chips. The action folded around to PKaiser in the big blind with A♠Q♦ and made the call. PKaiser's run of good fortune at the final table continued as the flop gave him the lead: 6♠ 7♠ A♥. Kamberis' hopes of a two-outter went down in flames as the and river were the 9♥ and 4♠ to give Kamberis an email stating he earned $17,644.00 for his 6th place finish.
While PKaiser was taking care of eliminating players, KAMKAM was busy holding the chip lead. After Kamberis' elimination, KAMKAM closed in on the 1,000,000 chip mark in this hand:
On the last hand of level 34, with the blinds at 4,500/9,000 and an ante of 1,125 PKaiser would knock out another player as Griffin "Flush_Entity" Benger finished in 5th place for $22,857.00. Benger shoved from the button for 123,471 with K♥6♥ while PKaiser was in the big blind with K♦8♦. PKaiser gave it a great deal of thought, or was consulting PokerStove as he commented after the hand played out, and eventually made the call. Five cards later the field was down to four: Q♠ 7♣ 4♦ A♥ 3♦.
The blinds were now raised to 5,000/10,000 with an ante of 1,250 as KAMKAM decided to speed up the tournament and eliminate some players, starting with RAZA14. KAMKAM opened from UTG to 30,000 with A♠K♣ as RAZA14 re-raised to 70,000. KAMKAM four-bet to 310,000 as RAZA14 called all-in with K♦Q♣. The first three cards moved KAMKAM further into the lead but gave RAZA14 a chance to double up: 6♥ A♦ J♠. The four-outer would not appear on the turn or river, as the 3♠3♦ sent RAZA14 to the rail solaced by their $33,082.50 earned for 4th place.
Although KAMKAM had a large chip lead, he was interesting in making a deal three-handed. However, the other two players were not considering the offer. KAMKAM next set their sights on taking care of leguito, but the first try led to doubling up the short stack. A few hands later, KAMKAM's mission was accomplished by outflopping leguito in a blind v blind confrontation to leave just two players standing. From the small blind, leguito limped with A♠9♣, calling KAMKAM's shove with A♦4♣ from the big blind. There was a reversal of fortune on the flop, 7♦ 4♠ 8♣ but leguito got more outs when the 6♥ on the turn added an open-ended straight draw. The K♠ on the river meant it was curtains for leguito, earning $44,110.00 for their third place efforts as KAMKAM now held a 4-1 chip lead over PKaiser.
After nearly 30 hands of heads-up play, KAMKAM would collect all the chips. The blinds were now at 6,000/12,000 with an ante of 1,500 as PKaiser min-raised to 24,000 from the small blind. KAMKAM bet enough to put PKaiser all-in and the race was on as KAMKAM held 2♥2♣ while PKaiser held A♥8♦. The final board of the tournament for record-keeping purposes would be J♣ Q♦ 5♦ 7♣ 4♦ as KAMKAM's quack-quack held up for the victory good for $77,593.50 as PKaiser pocketed $58,145.00 for the runner-up finish.
