Super Tuesday 3/8/11: Akademnuk takes final table to school, wins in 3-way deal
Not every tournament on PokerStars is going to set records like this past Sunday's 5th anniversary edition of the Sunday Million. However, the weekly Super Tuesday draws out plenty of big names in the online poker community who fork over a grand in one of the toughest tournaments online. This week's edition of the Super Tuesday drew an impressive field of 420 runners to create a $420,000 prize pool distributed to the top 54 players.
Severan members of Team PokerStars participated in this week's Super Tuesday, but it would be two members of Team PokerStars Online who were able to earn a piece of the prize pool: Grayson "spacegravy" Physioc (33rd, below) and Mer "PeachyMer" Brit (46th)
The player eliminated at the final table bubble was expected to be one of three players down to about ten big blinds: ammeadnama, CardRack570 and Bingydread. The last hand at the final table bubble was dealt with blinds were at 2,800/5,600 with an ante of 700 when ammeadnama open-shoved for 57,942 with A♣T♦. Markux re-raised all-in with J♣J♥ as the blinds got out of the way. The board ran out 6♣ 7♦ 4♦ K♦ 9♠ as the jacks held up and ammeadnama pocketed $5,460 for tenth place as the final table was seated as follows:
Seat 1: Bingydread (46,102 in chips)
Seat 2: baby3344 (74,868 in chips)
Seat 3: markux (306,886 in chips)
Seat 4: CardRack570 (54,620 in chips)
Seat 5: general_jim3 (235,041 in chips)
Seat 6: AADJWAA (273,227 in chips)
Seat 7: 1GENERAL_TAO (310,575 in chips)
Seat 8: Akademnuk (530,353 in chips)
Seat 9: platon33 (268,328 in chips)
Bingydread appeared happy just to make the final table, as the stay was incredibly brief. The hand started with general_jim3 opening with a bet to 11,760 as 1GENERAL_TAO and Bingydread called. On the flop of 5♣8♠5♦, Bingydread moved in for their remaining 33,642 in chips, general_jim3 folded as 1GENERAL_TAO made the call. When the cards were revealed 1GENERAL_TAO was well ahead in the hand, holding K♠K♦ to Bingydread's J♠8♥. The turn and river were the Q♠ and J♣ to give 1GENERAL_TAO the higher two paid and send Bingydread to the rail, earning $6,972 for ninth place.
Next to fall at the final table was CardRack570, after losing a coinflip. The blinds were now up to 3,600/7,200 with an ante of 900 as 1GENERAL_TAO opened with a raise to 14,800 with K♠J♣. CardRack570 put their remaining 73,380 chips in the middle with 5♥5♦. The 9♥Q♣T♥ gave 1GENERAL_TAO a flopped straight, but the 8♥ on the turn gave CardRack570 a chance to double up. However, the 3♠ on the river dashed those hopes, leaving CardRack570 to receive an email notifying of their winning $9,450 for their 8th place finish.
After an extended period without an elimination, another one was coming on the very next hand. Action folded around to baby3344 in the cutoff, raising to 21,600 with 8♦8♠. Markux re-raised all-in for 130,685 from the button with 3♥ 3♣ as baby3344 made the call. The flop renewed markux's hopes in poker as it came down Q♥7♥9♥ for a flush draw. However, the 5♦ turn and 7♠ river meant a five-figure payday for markux, cashing for $13,650.
The sixth-place finisher would be general_jim3, earning $17,850 after losing a blind v blind confrontation. Another bump in the levels meant 4,000/8,000 blinds with an ante of 1,000 as general_jim3 shoved from the small blind with J♠7♠, while AADJWAA made the call with A♥2♠. The board ran out 3♣ 3♥ Q♠ 4♦ 4♣ to give the checkmark to AADJWAA as general_jim3 hit the rail.
During the final table, baby3344 had been chipping up steadily, including some winning some hey hands against 1GENERAL_TAO and AADJWAA. It would be 1GENERAL_TAO deciding to make the wrong move at the wrong time to give baby3344 the rest of their chips, finishing in 5th place for $23,520. The blinds had increased yet again to 4,500/9,000 with an ante of 1,125. 1GENERAL_TAO raised to 19,100 as baby3344 called from the small blind. On a flop of A♦ 6♥ 4♦, baby3344 check-called a bet of 19,675. The turn was the J♣ and baby3344 again check-called, this time for 48,975. The river was the 3♠, and the action went check, an all-in bet by 1GENERAL_TAO for
207,791, as baby3344 made the call. The cards were revealed and baby3344 showed A♣T♠ while 1GENERAL_TAO turned over ... 9♣5♥. A bluff gone bad meant 1GENERAL_TAO was out of chips, and dispatched into the cyber-ether.
AADJWAA held the chip lead in the middle stages of the final table, but this hand against akademunk set plans in motion for AADJWAA to lose the lead, and most of their stack:
A few hands later, baby3344 would get the rest of AADJWAA's chips, leading to a fourth place finish for $33,600. The blinds were now 5,000/10,000 with a 1,250 ante as baby3344 raised to 30,000 from the button with A♦Q♥. AADJWAA re-raised all in for 117,395 from the small blind with J♠T♦ as baby3344 made the call. The board came down Q♦ 9♦ Q♠ T♣ T♥ to give baby3344 the checkmark and show AADJWAA the door as play was now three-handed.
A few hands later, the trio decided to do a chip-count deal, which was agreed to by all parties. Here's how the deal figures went down, the only thing left on the line was TLB points and the penny left over from the negotiations:
Akademnuk (947,812 chips) - $67,681.56
baby3344 (610,978 chips) - $59,301.13
platon33 (541,210 chips) - $57,565.30
On the second hand dealt after the deal was made, the tournament was over. The blinds were now at 6,000/12,000 with an ante of 1,500 when the players decided to move all-in. Here's how it played out:
Congrats to akademnuk for #winning, and for those looking to synchronize their watches/computer clocks/etc, to when the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) begins, there is now has a countdown clock at the SCOOP website.
