O Canada! Canuck trifecta as T_Dot_D dominates Super Tuesday

Super Tuesday On Sunday afternoon I was taking a casual stroll past my local restaurant strip and I noticed several Canadian flags adorned across the window of the aptly titled "The World" restaurant.

"Happy Canada Day!" the chalkboard read. Oh, sorry Canada, I didn't realise. And I didn't realise we celebrated it here down under, but hey, any excuse for a beer or three I guess.

It seems that there was no hangover from Canada Day as the Canucks have put in a dominant performance today in the PokerStars $1,050 Super Tuesday. T_Dot_D landed an emphatic win as Canada took down the top three prizes.

The $1,050 Super Tuesday attracted 334 to the virtual felt to edge past the $300,000 prize pool guarantee. The top 45 players would finish in the money with a min-cash worth $2,004. Team PokerStars Pro Maxim Lykov got close, only to fall in 54th place while the only other player carrying the red spade in the field was Johnny Lodden who bowed out pretty early on.

Bubble honours went to mumu12345 from Germany, who was prepared to take a preflop race but the coin fell the wrong way to leave mumu12345 empty-handed this Tuesday.

Ami "UhhMee" Barer (34th - $2,171), David "dhilton12" Hilton (33rd - $2,171) and Tom "tollgate" Grigg (19th - $2,505) were among those to collect a profit, and when Canadian G's zee lost a preflop race with pocket jacks against T_Dot_D's A♠Q♠ to fall in 10th place, our final table was set:

Final Table Lineup
Seat 1: T_Dot_D (260,907 in chips)
Seat 2: moschass (129,934 in chips)
Seat 3: pinduca iret (186,165 in chips)
Seat 4: jennyfuchs (62,603 in chips)
Seat 5: Påsen3 (299,909 in chips)
Seat 6: YanniYankiev (199,097 in chips)
Seat 7: GringoBrasil (225,281 in chips)
Seat 8: Gala_Terry (240,018 in chips)
Seat 9: alexandrapau (66,086 in chips)

It was pretty tight at the top with Påsen3 holding a slight advantage, but with the blinds at a relatively low 2k/4k with a 500 ante, there was plenty of game time ahead.

jennyfuchs didn't waste any time, finding a double up with pocket kings against the pocket nines of Påsen3 on just the second hand of the final table. Fellow short stack alexandrapau did likewise soon after with pocket jacks holding against the pocket fives of GringoBrasil.

It didn't get much better for the Brazilian with the small pairs again leading GringoBrasil astray soon after. The flop was 4♦5♥3♦ which didn't look too bad for GringoBrasil's 8♣8♦ but jennyfuchs held J♣J♠ which held through the Q♥ turn and 3♠ river for yet another double up.

It left GringoBrasil on the short stack and jennyfuchs finished off the job as the red-hot run of cards continued. GringoBrasil moved all in preflop with A♥T♠ and jennyfuchs made the call with Q♥Q♣. jennyfuchs faded the ace on the board of 3♣5♣9♦6♠2♦ to see GringoBrasil the first final table casualty in 9th place for a $5,845 collect.

moschass was next to go, three-bet shoving J♦T♦ into the A♦K♠ of pinduca iret. moschass caught a good flop of 8♥T♠Q♣ but pinduca iret took back control with the A♣ turn card. The river was a bricky 4♠ to see moschass pick up $8,016 for 8th place.

The next two hands saw Påsen3 pick up back-to-back lucky breaks, the first to stay alive with Påsen3's ace-nine pairing the kicker against Gala_Terry's ace-jack, before eliminating Gala_Terry on the very next hand. Gala_Terry moved all in preflop with T♠T♦ as Påsen3 called with A♥8♦. The board hit Påsen3 hard as it landed A♣A♦5♦5♥Q♣ to leave Gala_Terry scratching his head with $11,356 in prize money for 7th place.

Things were very even at the top before YanniYankiev broke the deadlock with a very pretty hand:

Påsen3 couldn't recover and was next to go. Påsen3's wild ride ended three-bet shoving with A♠8♣ as T_Dot_D made the call with A♣T♥. T_Dot_D was in great shape and it stayed that way through the board of 9♠7♦2♦A♦T♣. Påsen3 added $14,696 to the cashier for 6th place.

With five players left T_Dot_D was out in front and it stayed that way for the remainder of the tournament.

T_Dot_D increased the advantage with the quick elimination of pinduca iret. jennyfuchs started the action with a min-raise under the gun which T_Dot_D called in the small blind. pinduca iret then moved all in from the big blind holding A♥J♠, which forced a fold from jennyfuchs, but T_Dot_D made the call with A♠Q♣. The board ran out 4♣3♣A♣K♦9♥ without incident to leave pinduca iret to collect $19,038 for 5th place.

Things were pretty tense four-handed with chips exchanged around the table. T_Dot_D remained in the lead and let his opponents know who was in control with a nice six-bet preflop that forced a fold from YanniYankiev.

T_Dot_D cracked the million chip mark with a rivered straight against jennyfuchs, but jennyfuchs got revenge the very next hand, rivering a flush holding a dominated ace to stay alive in the tournament.

However the comeback of jennyfuchs didn't last after three-bet jamming with A♦K♣ and T_Dot_D calling with 9♠9♥. The coinflip landed firmly in favour of T_Dot_D as the board of 2♥9♣T♣3♥Q♥ delivered a set of nines to bust jennyfuchs in 4th place for $27,555 in prize money.

Despite the last three spots filled by the Canadian trio, there was no talk of a deal with T_Dot_D now in total control with almost a 10-to-1 chip advantage over both opponents.
T_Dot_D didn't slow as YanniYankiev bowed out in 3rd place. YanniYankiev three-bet shoved the J♥T♥ but again T_Dot_D called with a big hand holding A♦T♦. The board meekly ran out Q♥4♣3♣4♠7♦ to see YanniYankiev forced to be content with a payday of $36,740.

It seemed that the win for T_Dot_D was inevitable as alexandrapau was seemingly almost resigned to his fate.

alexandrapau said, "eliveable man vish you are a boss"

Heads-up play lasted just four hands, with alexandrapau moving all in for eleven big blinds with Q♥7♦ and T_Dot_D calling with K♠Q♣ for yet another dominating hand. The board of 8♣K♣Q♠J♠K♥ improved T_Dot_D to a full house to secure the win and the trifecta for Canada.

alexandrapau fought back well from the short stack to pocket $48,430 for 2nd place as T_Dot_D's impressive victory nets $64,629.
