kondikurt carves them up in Super Tuesday (1/29/13) for $99k win

After the huge record-setting Super Tuesday of last week, all eyes were on the number of entrants to see if those numbers could be matched once again.

We fell just short of last week's numbers, but the 500-barrier was again cracked with kondikurt from Denmark emerging victorious after almost eleven hours of play to land a near six-figure score.

A huge field of 525 players handed over $1,050 for their place in the PokerStars Super Tuesday. The prize pool was $525,000 which was well above the advertised guarantee.

A few members of Team PokerStars were among the entrants with Johnny Lodden and Christian de León failing to make the money, while Mickey Petersen (56th - $2,310.00) and Max Lykov (30th - $2,887.50) were able to churn out a handy profit for reaching the top 63 players.

When Big Huni from Costa Rica was bundled out on the final table bubble in 10th place, our final table line up was set:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: Yazid105 (516,263 in chips)
Seat 2: sosickPL (99,674 in chips)
Seat 3: holtekila (313,997 in chips)
Seat 4: dragonwarior (56,437 in chips)
Seat 5: roo_400 (179,709 in chips)
Seat 6: kondikurt (188,847 in chips)
Seat 7: flaszeczka (632,018 in chips)
Seat 8: DeanoSupremo (344,134 in chips)
Seat 9: 1banditpanda (294,011 in chips)

The blinds kicked off at 2,400/4,800 with a 600-chip ante, but it didn't take long to lose our first player as sosickPL moved all in following an open raise from under the gun by 1banditpanda. The call was made and 1banditpanda opened K♠K♦ to have sosickPL in trouble with A♥K♥. The board fell 8♦5♣5♦3♥K♣ to see sosickPL depart in 9th place for $8,715 in prize money.

Just a few hands later and dragonwarior's short stack was in the middle. dragonwarior had found a solid 9♠9♦ but ran it smack into flaszeczka's Q♣Q♦. With the chips in preflop, dragonwarior was hoping for a nine-ball but it wasn't to be on the K♥J♠6♣4♥J♣ board. dragonwarior was left to pick up $11,812.50 for 8th place.

After a couple of quick early eliminations, the players settled into their groove with most of the pots relatively small until kondikurt caught a double up with pocket jacks against flaszeczka's pocket eights.

However flaszeczka was able to turn things around with the brutal elimination of roo_400:

It was about as good as it could get preflop for roo_400, but incredibly flaszeczka caught a couple of kings for dramatic escape act, to leave a disappointed roo_400 on the rail in 7th place for $17,062.50.

As the blinds started to increase, the chips began to move around the table, with 1banditpanda copping the brunt of it. 1banditpanda shoved the button with K♣Q♠, with Yazid105 looking it up from the small blind with A♣8♣. The A♦8♥3♠A♥J♦ board smacked Yazid105 with a full house to send 1banditpanda home in 6th place for $22,312.50 in prize money.

flaszeczka was travelling pretty well at this point, but then a cooler of a hand saw flaszeczka find Q♠Q♥ at the same moment holtekila was sitting there with A♦A♠.

It put flaszeczka on the back foot, and moments later, flaszeczka was next to be eliminated after clashing with Yazid105. flaszeczka opened with a min-raise and Yazid105 put in a three-bet from the small blind. flaszeczka made the call to see a flop of 6♦9♣5♦. Yazid105 led out with a bet, before flaszeczka moved all in, but Yazid105 wasn't going anywhere with K♥K♣ as flaszeczka would need help with A♦J♦. flaszeczka was looking for diamonds or an ace from space, but neither arrived through the 2♥ turn and equally bricky 2♣ river. flaszeczka picked up a tidy $28,875 for 5th place.

Yazid105 was out to a healthy chip lead, but a key coinflip changed the momentum around:

A big double up for kondikurt with "Big Slick" jumped kondikurt right back into contention. kondikurt followed that up with an interesting six-bet preflop that forced a fold from Yazid105 to switch up the chip lead. But the four-handed battle was an intense one as no-one was prepared to give an inch.

DeanoSupremo caught a pair of jacks with A♦J♣ to double through kondikurt's T♣T♥, but kondikurt got revenge a short time later. kondikurt opened with a min-raise before DeanoSupremo three-bet shoved all in for around 16 big blinds. kondikurt made the call with A♣8♥ and was dominated by DeanoSupremo's A♥T♠ until the board was spread 8♠7♥7♠2♠J♥ to pair kondikurt 's eight. An unfortunate end for DeanoSupremo in 4th place but $40,950 should heal a few wounds.

The biggest pot of the tournament unfolded just moments later when Yazid105 got a little frisky preflop with Q♦J♣. The five-bet jam was called by holtekila's A♦K♥ to land a massive double up through the board of 6♦5♠T♠9♠9♣.

It left Yazid105 a little stunned as holtekila and kondikurt got busy, raking in the majority of three-handed pots. But while we thought Yazid105 was the one under pressure, the two chip leaders decided to go head on in a spectacular preflop collision:

kondikurt had got a little loose with a big overbet and ran smack into a monster, but incredibly improved to trip nines to crack holtekila's pocket kings. A very unlucky end for holtekila who collects $53,812.50 for 3rd place.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: Yazid105 (263,697 in chips)
Seat 6: kondikurt (2,361,303 in chips)

It was a near ten-to-one chip advantage for kondikurt when heads-up play commenced, but Yazid105 had plenty of fight with the Super Tuesday title and just shy of six figures up for grabs.

Yazid105 landed one nice double with A♠4♠ making a flush against kondikurt's A♣3♣, and followed that up with another dramatic double, making a backdoor straight with K♣9♣ to better kondikurt's set of jacks.

It was an intense heads-up match with kondikurt slowly grinding down his opponent, while Yazid105 always remained a dangerous threat. In the end it came down to a coinflip.

Yazid105 four-bet jammed all in with 8♦8♣ and kondikurt made the call with A♥Q♦. The board was spread 3♦Q♣T♠7♠7♥ pairing the lucky lady to land the win for kondikurt. Yazid105 takes back $73,500 to Portugal for 2nd place as kondikurt is this week's Super Tuesday champion, taking the title and $99,750 in prize money. Congratulations!
