pAtcAsh83 tops field of 601 in 2/19/13 Super Tuesday for $106K

The Super Tuesday keeps on super-sizing. Last week saw the biggest ever payout when bagoch of Lithuania took away more than $111K for topping a field of 589. And this week saw yet another record-setting field with 601 participating, with Germany's pAtcAsh83 ending the night on top to earn a handsome $106K score following a three-way final table deal.

From 601 to 72

That field of 601 meant a $601,000 prize pool, just over twice the $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament's $300K guarantee. The top 72 finishers divided up the cash.

A few Team PokerStars Pros helped make up that record field, with Joe "jcada99" Cada coming the closest to the cash of all of them by lasting nearly five hours before getting eliminated in 87th place.

About 20 minutes after that they'd reached the cash bubble with 73 players left, and soon after hand-for-hand play began Tom "hitthehole" Middleton found himself all in and at risk with A♦T♥ versus the A♣Q♥ of floebbi. But luckily for Middleton two tens flopped and his hand held to ensure his survival.

Meanwhile on another table Vojtech "Vojta_R" Ruzicka was similarly at risk after committing preflop with A♣K♥ versus avptenis's Q♥Q♣. The flop came A♦J♠6♦ to pair Ruzicka, however, and after the 5♠ turn card he appeared in good shape to double up as well. But the Q♠ fell on the river, giving avptenis a set and making Ruzicka the 73rd-place finisher and last to fall before the money.

From 72 to 10

At that point pAtcAsh83 had already shot to the top of the counts with nearly 133,000 chips, followed by rh300487 with about 120,000 and avptenis, Christian "Icallany" Spanne, and Jackie "Peacefulme07" Cassells as the only others with more than 100,000.

It would take another two hours for the field to be trimmed down to 18. Among those hitting the rail and cashing along the way were Nick "gmantis" Niergarth (67th, $1,983.30), Tom "hitthehole" Middleton (63rd, $2,103.50), Russell "rdcrsn" Carson (59th, $2,103.50), Ondrej "Vinkyy" Vinklarek (56th, $2,103.50), Stefan "I'am_Sound" Huber (44th, $2,704.50), Chris "ImDaNuts" Oliver (42nd, $2,704.50), Adam "squee451" Sherman (40th, $2,704.50), Jackie "Peacefulme07" Cassells (34th, $3,005), Ami "UhhMee" Barer (31st, $3,005), Evan "fold_em_sho7" Lamprea (29th, $3,005), and Christian "Icallany" Spanne (21st, $3,606).

With two tables left rh300487 had pushed out in front with more than 654,000 with pAtcAsh83 the nearest competitor with about 624,000 and no other player with more than 300,000.

Nearly an hour later eight more had fallen, during which stretch pAtcAsh83 again emerged as the chip leader with more than 1.1 million while avptenis sat in a distant second with about 400,000.

Of those eight eliminations, blanconegro (18th), David "davidv1213" Vamplew (17th), and oldrich88 (16th) each made $4,808 on the night; rent82 (15th), gerd401 (14th), and allucan3at (13th) earned $6,010 apiece; and DrZmey (12th) and Aiden "whereisdonny" Tam (11th) both took away $7,212.

Tough rivers for cetin 1974 and narrowbay

With 10 players left, hand-for-hand play had arrived once more, and after a short while cetin 1974 was all in and at risk holding A♥Q♥ versus sanpri's [10c]K♥. The board came 9♠Q♦6♥, then 6♠, then J♠, that river jack filling an inside straight draw for sanpri and sending cetin 1974 out in 10th for a $7,212 cash.

Meanwhile on the other table an all-in hand was also playing out, this one involving pAtcAsh83 and narrowbay. pAtcAsh83 had narrowbay well covered, although the latter was putting it on the line with A♣A♥ versus pAtcAsh83's 7♠7♦.

The 8♦J♠6♠ flop and 9♠ turn meant narrowbay's aces were still best. But the T♥ fell on the river, giving pAtcAsh83 a straight and ending narrowbay's Super Tuesday run in ninth place, good for $9,195.30.

Thus with one seat already emptied, the final table was underway.

Seat 1: rh300487 (Brazil) -- 287,113

Seat 5: Fiskin1 (United Kingdom) -- 150,473
Seat 6: pAtcAsh83 (Germany) -- 1,331,957

Seat 8: sanpri (Mexico) -- 313,100
Seat 9: EPNR (Russia) -- 329,005

sanpri sunk in eighth

It took about 15 minutes for the next elimination to occur.

After an opening 2x raise to 12,800 by chip leader pAtcAsh83 from middle position, sanpri reraised to 26,000 from the cutoff seat. EPNR called the reraise from the button, and it folded back to pAtcAsh83 who called as well.

All three players checked the 8♦4♣9♥ flop. The turn then brough the 6♥ and a leading bet of 74,500 by pAtcAsh83. sanpri responded by raising all in for 210,880, forcing EPNR to fold but pAtcAsh83 was there with a quick call.

sanpri turned over K♠K♥ for an overpair of kings, but pAtcAsh83 had flopped two pair with 9♦8♠. The river was the 2♦, and sanpri was out in eighth.

avptenis all in, all out in seventh

Just a few minutes later it was EPNR min-raising to 14,400 from middle position, avptenis reraising to 43,200 from the small blind, EPNR four-betting to 86,400, avptenis shoving all in for 190,092, and EPNR calling.

avptenis: 7♦7♥

The flop came K♦A♥8♣ to put EPNR in front, and after the 3♣ turn and 4♦ river they were down to six.

Fiskin1 falls in sixth

Not too long after they were approaching the nine-hour break when Fiskin1 open-raised all in for 58,373 from the cutoff seat (just over 8 big blinds). pAtcAsh83 called immediately from the button, and TIITTIIT came along as well from the small blind.

Fiskin1's two opponents then checked down all three post-flop streets as the board came 6♣8♣2♠6♥A♦. TIITTIIT then showed J♦J♣, Fiskin1 mucked, and pAtcAsh83 showed A♣T♦ for aces and the best hand. Fiskin1's avatar then disappeared, signaling a sixth-place finish.

EPNR eliminated in fifth

That pot added still more to pAtcAsh83's lead, and by the time they reached that nine-hour break pAtcAsh83 had over 1.8 million, just about 60% of the chips in play with five players remaining.

About 15 minutes after play resumed, the blinds were 4,000/8,000 when EPNR opened for 16,000 from under the gun and got a single caller in CHICHO18 from the button. The flop came 6♦9♠2♠, and when EPNR led for 48,000, CHICHO18 responded with an all-in push EPNR called with the 112,607 left behind.

CHICHO18 had T♣T♠ for an overpair of tens, better than the pair of sixes EPNR had with J♥6♥. The turn was the 5♠ and river the 5♥, and EPNR was out in fifth.

TIITTIIT taken out in fourth

About 15 minutes after that TIITTIIT open-pushed for 105,716 from under the gun with A♥6♥ and pAtcAsh83 called with A♦8♣. The board rolled out 3♦2♠4♣9♦K♥, meaning the kickers played and TIITTIIT was out in fourth.

A deal, then rh300487 ran out in third

The final trio played on a short while, then paused proceedings to talk about a possible deal. By then pAtcAsh83 had 1,922,607, rh300487 was next with 685,306, and CHICHO18 third with 397,087.

Both "chip chop" and ICM numbers were produced, and after a bit of negotiating a compromise was reached that would guarantee pAtcAsh83 an even $100,000, rh300487 $81,505.86, CHICHO18 $70,623.64, with $6,000 still left for which to play.

On the very first hand back, CHICHO18 managed to double through pAtcAsh83 after picking up A♦A♥ versus pAtcAsh83's K♣Q♠. Then a little while after that, the blinds were 6,000/12,000 when rh300487 opened for 24,240 from under the gun and both CHICHO18 (small blind) and pAtcAsh83 (big blind) called.

For the final three players -- the three kings of this week's Super Tuesday, one might say -- the flop appropriately came K♥K♣K♦. It checked to rh300487 who bet 25,850, and only CHICHO18 called. The turn then brought the J♣, and again CHICHO18 check-called rh300487's bet, this time for 89,787.

The river was the 7♦, and once more CHICHO18 checked. rh300487 pushed all in for 368,331, and CHICHO18 quickly called. rh300487 had but Q♦T♦ while CHICHO18 had quads with K♠J♥, and they were down to two.

CHICHO18 chips up, then takes runner-up as pAtcAsh83 prevails

Heads-up play began with pAtcAsh83 still in front with 1,691,978 to CHICHO18's 1,313,022, both players super deep with 100-plus blinds' worth of chips with which to battle.

CHICHO18 was able to narrow the gap over the first few hands, even taking a small lead briefly on a couple of occasions. But pAtcAsh83 quickly grabbed back the advantage both times, then began whittling away at CHICHO18's stack to push the latter back down close to 700,000

CHICHO18 kept fighting, though, and worked back to about 1.08 million. Then, after more than 35 minutes of heads-up play, the blinds were 8,000/16,000 when CHICHO18 opened for 48,000 from the button and pAtcAsh83 called.

The flop came 3♥A♠T♦. pAtcAsh83 checked, CHICHO18 bet 96,000, and pAtcAsh83 called. The turn then brought the 4♣ and a bet of 177,800 from pAtcAsh83, and CHICHO18 called to see the river.

The 7♥ landed on fifth street, and this time pAtcAsh83 shoved all in. CHICHO18 called with the 763,890 left behind, turning over A♣6♥ for a pair of aces. But pAtcAsh83 had T♥4♥ for two pair and the better hand, thus earning the last of the chips and the Super Tuesday title.
