Argentinian armenioz tops 6/10/14 Super Tuesday field, earns $96K
It's Tuesday again, the day that's always "Super" at PokerStars thanks to the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament that routinely attracts big fields and lucrative prize pools. This week's entry saw 509 players participate, and after 10-and-a-half hours it was armenioz of Argentina collecting the last of everyone's chips to win the title and a nice $96,710 payday.
It took just over five-and-a-half hours for the money bubble to burst, and with 63 players remaining Godliker_ led the counts with a slight lead over Feng "valkyri3" Zhao.
About 90 minutes after that they were down to 18, with Feng "valkyri3" Zhao out in 22nd ($3,054) and Godliker_ still near the top with João "Naza114" Vieira having become the new chip leader.
Charlie "JIZOINT" Combes (18th), sukin12 (17th), and Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel (16th) would go out next, each earning $4,072 for their finishes. p@nache (15th), metallist353 (14th), and Jack "jackellwood" Ellwood (13th) took away $5,090 apiece. Then yali1961 (12th), cis_san9984 (11th), and Karolis "g.karolis" Grybauskas (10th) cashed for $6,108 each.
With João "Naza114" Vieira still leading the way, the final table had begun.
Seat 1: Mikhail "Mikleler" Semin (Russia) -- 280,790
Seat 2: Godliker_ (Belarus) -- 433,371
Seat 3: João "Naza114" Vieira (Portugal) -- 598,128
Seat 4: armenioz (Argentina) -- 173,928
Seat 5: leplato (Malta) -- 141,511
Seat 6: Lupario (Brazil) -- 186,522
Seat 7: TheFish77 (Norway) -- 138,665
Seat 8: MistheMan (Canada) -- 247,509
Seat 9: OMGImsosick (Israel) -- 344,576
leplato nixed in ninth
The first elimination began with a min-raise to 12,800 from middle position by leplato. The table folded around to Goldliker_ in the big blind who made it 31,228 to go, leplato pushed all in for 118,002, and Goldliker_ called.
It was a race between Godliker_'s J♠J♣ and leplato's A♣K♠. The board rolled out ten-high, coming 8♥2♠5♠T♣5♦, and Godliker_'s jacks held to send leplato railward in ninth.
Lupario exits in eighth
The remaining eight battled for 45 minutes more, then with the blinds up to
5,000/10,000 a hand arose that saw a short-stacked Lupario open-push for 71,852 from the button and TheFish777 reraise-shove from the small blind to isolate.
TheFish777 showed A♠5♠ and was behind Lupario's A♥K♦, but the flop brought three spades, coming T♠8♠4♠, to give The Fish777 a flush and leave Lupario already drawing dead to finish the tourney in eighth.
Godliker_ gone in seventh
Just a few hands later Godliker_ raised 2x to 20,000 from the button, João "Naza114" Vieira made it 51,000 from the small blind, Godliker_ pushed all in for 156,625, and Vieira called.
Godliker_ was hoping the jacks would hold and they did so through the 4♣8♥9♦ flop. But the turn was the Q♥ to give Vieira a better pair, and after the 5♥ river Godliker_'s run had ended in seventh.
TheFish77 falls in sixth
A dozen hands later the blinds had increased when MistheMan raised the minimum to 24,000 from under the gun and it folded around to TheFish77 who called from the big blind.
Both players checked the 6♣9♣6♠ flop and 2♦ turn. The river then brought the 5♠ and a bet of 24,000 from TheFish77. MistheMan responded with a raise to 156,000, more than the 90,652 that TheFish77 had left behind, and the latter called all in.
TheFish77 turned over A♥5♥ for sixes and fives, but MistheMan had Q♥Q♣ for the better two pair and they were down to five.
Mikleler moves on in fifth
They played on, then on the very last hand before the 10-hour break armenioz raised to 24,000 from UTG, MistheMan reraised to 66,554 from the cutoff seat, then Mikhail "Mikleler" Semin shoved for 122,230 total from the small blind. It folded back around to MistheMan who called, turning over 2♦2♥ to Semin's A♣J♥.
The community cards came 6♠9♥8♠, then T♥, then 3♦, and Mikleler was out in fifth.
Naza114 down to nada, out in fourth
OMGImsosick led the final four with almost 780,000, ahead of MistheMan's stack of close to 710,000, João "Naza114" Vieira's just under 700,000, and armenioz who had a little more than 355,000.
About 15 minutes later a big hand developed between João "Naza114" Vieira and armenioz that saw the latter all in and at risk although in the good position of holding A♥A♠ versus Vieira's A♦J♦. The case ace flopped, armenioz's set held, and suddenly Naza114 was down to just over 21,000 -- not much more than a big blind.
Two hands later MistheMan raised from the button and Vieira called all in from the big blind showing 8♥4♠ versus MistheMan's 3♠3♣. The board came 3♦2♦T♠K♦9♠ to improve MistheMan to a set and knock Vieira out in fourth.
MistheMan misses out, finishes third
The last three players pushed onward with MistheMan eventually becoming the short stack with less than 200,000.
Then a hand came up that saw OMGImsosick open for 32,000 from the button, MistheMan call from the big blind, and the flop come 2♦7♣8♦. MistheMan checked, OMGImsosick bet 29,000, MistheMan raised all in for 149,286 total, and OMGImsosick called.
MistheMan had 9♣8♣ for top pair, but OMGImsosick had A♥A♠ and the big advantage. The turn was the J♠ and river the 2♥, and just two were left.
armenioz over OMGImsosick heads-up to win
armenioz had the lead to start heads-up play with 1,453,714 to OMGImsosick's 1,091,286 and soon caught some hands to increase the advantage and push OMGImsosick down to just over 600,000.
Then armenioz min-raisd to 36,000, OMGImsosick reraised to 97,000, armenioz four-bet nearly all in, and OMGImsosick called with the 508,500 left behind.
Both had been dealt pocket pairs with armenioz showing the bigger one with 7♠7♥ versus OMGImsosick's 4♥4♦. The flop came 2♣5♦2♠, then when the 7♦ fell on fourth street OMGImsosick typed "gg" to acknowledge that the 3♠ river was no matter.
It was the first knockout armenioz had earned at the entire final table, but it was the most important one, and after having begun the final nine as one of the short stacks, armenioz was a Super Tuesday champion.
Congratulations to armenioz for topping a 500-plus entrant field and winning this week's Super Tuesday and more than $96K!
