Cheezees rises to the top on 6/17/14 Super Tuesday

The $1,050 Super Tuesday was back once again for another week, and despite being in the middle of the World Series of Poker, a healthy field of 480 players would take part to create a prize pool of $480,000. Ten hours of play would be required to see the cream, or in this case, the cheezees, rise to the top with the UK player victorious to pocket a top prize of $82,730.59 after a heads-up deal.

Among the starters today were the likes of Team PokerStars Pros Nacho Barbero and Caio Pessagno who put in an impressive run before falling in 19th place. That was worth $3,360.

The top 54 players would enjoy a profit but it would take a full eight hours of play before the field had been reduced to a final table of nine.

Both Aikon007 (11th) and rh300487 (10th) would see their tournaments come to an end after both running into pocket kings, to leave our final table line up as follows:

Final Table Line up

Seat 1: Alex "lynskey99" Lynskey (334,758 in chips)
Seat 2: krakukra (229,349 in chips)
Seat 3: CandyJohnson (94,061 in chips)
Seat 4: Jonathan "OMGjonyctt" Concepción (352,962 in chips)
Seat 5: trionojnika (198,797 in chips)
Seat 6: PaDiLhA SP (208,923 in chips)
Seat 7: pergeo (101,664 in chips)
Seat 8: staszeq (782,077 in chips)
Seat 9: cheezees (97,409 in chips)

staszeq would carry a big chip lead after bursting the final table bubble, but with the blinds still at 2,400/4,800/600, there was plenty of play ahead of us.

CandyJohnson kicked off the final table in a blaze of glory, making quads with pocket tens to double through staszeq's ace-queen, but trionojnika wasn't quite so fortunate.

In a hand that was four-bet preflop, trionojnika and PaDiLhA SP took a flop of J♦2♣4♣. trionojnika checked and PaDiLhA SP made a bet. trionojnika responded by moving all in with 8♦8♥ but was well behind when PaDiLhA SP made a quick call with Q♣Q♦. The turn was the T♣ and river the A♦ to see trionojnika fall in ninth place for $7,968 in prize money.

cheezees would landed a big double up with pocket aces proving too strong for Alex "lynskey99" Lynskey's pocket tens, before krakukra hand the same result with ace-king against staszeq's ace-queen.

It would be CandyJohnson who was next to stumble. A raise preflop was called by lynskey99 in the big blind to see a flop of 3♠J♦K♦. lynskey99 checked and CandyJohnson made the continuation bet. lynskey99 moved all in and CandyJohnson made the call with A♠K♣ for top pair, top kicker, but was in desperate trouble against lynskey99's 3♥3♣ set of threes. The turn was the T♦ and river the A♦ which was just salt in the wound for CandyJohnson who was left to collect $10,800 for eighth place.

It seemed like lynskey99 was back in business, but in fact, the young Aussie was next to go.

lynskey99 three-bet preflop with A♥K♥ and then called it off when staszeq pushed the big stack with T♠T♥. The race was on but the board of 2♠4♦Q♥T♣3♣ would give staszeq a set of tens to see lynskey99 out in seventh place for $15,600.

staszeq was out to a big lead by this stage and was pushing the action, while patience was not rewarded for pergeo. Following a raise and a call, pergeo moved all in with K♥K♠ and got action from krakukra who made the call with A♠J♣. The board of 7♣8♣T♠A♦9♥ brought an ace and a straight for krakukra which was too good for pergeo's kings. pergeo was left to pick up $20,400 for sixth place.

cheezees showed up with aces once again to win a nice pot from Jonathan "OMGjonyctt" Concepción, before krakukra won a huge coinflip with pocket sevens holding against staszeq's ace-jack. krakukra kept the momentum going with a full house against cheezees to threaten for the chip lead as the five remaining players dug their heels in.

Eventually it would be PaDiLhA SP who was next to fall, and it happened in rather brutal fashion. PaDiLhA SP was all in with A♣J♥ against staszeq's A♠K♦ and looked good to double up when the flop landed J♠T♥7♣. The 4♠ turn card was safe, but the Q♦ river delivered Broadway for staszeq and would end the tournament of former SCOOP champion PaDiLhA SP in fifth place for a $26,880 score.

Just a few hands later and the run of Jonathan "OMGjonyctt" Concepción was brought to a halt in fourth place. Theformer WCOOP winner four-bet shoved all in with A♦J♠ and it was another race with cheezees making the call with T♠T♣. The board ran out 7♠Q♥7♥3♥T♥ with the river the exclamation point on the hand for cheezees who took it down with a full house. OMGjonyctt would have to be content with $38,400 in prize money.

Just one hand later and cheezees would continue the momentum with a huge double up. This one was a brutal one for krakukra who got the chips in good with pocket jacks against cheezees' pocket nines. A third nine on the flop would see the million chip pot pushed to cheezees and leave krakukra on the ropes.

krakukra was now in need of a double and T♦T♥ looked like a good sport to move all in. staszeq took it on with A♠3♦ and caught good on the board of 8♦6♦8♣A♥2♦ with the ace on the turn delivering the pot for the knockout blow. An unlucky fall for krakukra but $50,400 for third place should heal some of the pain.

Heads-up Chip Counts
Seat 8: staszeq (1,293,344 in chips)
Seat 9: cheezees (1,106,656 in chips)

The two remaining players were sitting pretty much dead even in chips, and were happy to quickly lock in a deal. They agreed to chip chop numbers, leaving $6,000 and the Super Tuesday title in the middle to play for.

When play resumed, staszeq would gain the early advantage, winning several significant pots before showdown. However staszeq went to the well once too often, raising the turn and firing the river on a pure bluff as cheezees made an easy call with a straight.

That hand changed the momentum, and the luck, as the very next hand would see staszeq fire three barrels on a board of J♥7♦5♠3♣K♣ with pocket queens. cheezees made rather ambitious flop and turn calls, before rivering top pair with the old king-four suited to take over the chip lead.

cheezees then put the pedal to the metal, winning fourteen of the next nineteen hands, to close out the tournament.

The final hand would see staszeq raise preflop and cheezees called to take a flop of 2♥7♣8♣. cheezees check-raised the flop before leading out on the 9♠ turn. staszeq moved all in and cheezees snapped it off with J♠T♥ for the nuts! staszeq showed K♦7♠ but there was no card that would help as the 6♠ river completed the board. staszeq collected $77,781.41 for second place as our Super Tuesday champion is cheezees, winning $82,730.59. Congratulations!
