Lena900 tops 550-entrant field, earns $104,500 for 7/29/14 Super Tuesday win
This week's Super Tuesday saw a slight increase in entrants from a week ago as 550 players took part in the $1,050 no-limit hold'em event. It would take almost 10 hours for that field to play all of the way down to just one player, and after the last hand was dealt it was Sweden's Lena900 holding all of the chips to win a big $104,500 first prize.
It would take five-and-a-half hours' worth of poker before that big field had played down to the final 64 players and hand-for-hand play on the cash bubble. At that point just one red spade was left among the players still alive, the one next to the name of Marc-Andre "FrenchDawg" Ladouceur of Team Online.
As it would happen, a hand arose at the 700/1,400 level that saw action fold around to Lacouceur in the hijack seat who raised all in for 25,086, then when it folded to the button Zachary "HustlerGrune" Gruneburg reraise-shoved to scatter the blinds.
Ladouceur had A♠J♠ and was racing against Gruneberg's 8♦8♠, but after the 7♥8♣2♣ flop the Team Online member was suddenly way behind his opponent's set of eights. The 9♣ on the turn did provide a gutshot straight draw for the Canadian, but the river was the 4♥ and Ladouceur was out in 64th, the last eliminated player prior to the money.
It would take another hour and 45 minutes for the field to be whittled down to 18 players gathered around the final two tables, with j.o. 2100 leading all with nearly 320,000, almost 100,000 ahead of nearest foe dhutt.
More than an hour-and-a-half would be needed for the next nine eliminations to come.
SilentPurple (18th), Amir "AmirSF" Lehavot (17th), and Maksim "MAMOHT_T" Viktorovich (16th) each earned $4,400 for their finishes. Richard "NateSD222" Schenz-Davis (15th), Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron (14th), and BlackFourz (13th) were the next to go, cashing for $5,500 apiece. Then blackmancy (12th), papan9_p$ (11th), and kjunia (10th) went out to pick up $6,600 cashes.
With 88Xin88 now in front, the final table was underway.
Seat 1: KaptianKush (Canada) -- 225,692
Seat 2: j.o. 2100 (Belgium) -- 263,744
Seat 3: LaKabii (Uruguay) -- 326,555
Seat 4: Karola Peppe (Poland) -- 191,902
Seat 5: Dan Alcazar (Guatemala) -- 351,616
Seat 6: 88Xin88 (Canada) -- 471,683
Seat 7: dhutt (Canada) -- 355,009
Seat 8: Lena900 (Sweden) -- 423,593
Seat 9: shopeador (Venezuela) -- 140,206
Soon after the final table began and just as they were approaching the tourney's nine-hour mark, the blinds were 3,600/7,200 when Karola Peppe opened with a raise of 21,600 from under the gun. It folded around to j.o. 2100 in the small blind who three-bet to 57,600. LaKabii folded the big blind, then Karola Peppe shoved for 191,002 total and j.o. 2100 called.
j.o. 2100 showed A♥Q♣ and Karola Peppe 9♣9♦. The flop came 8♥J♥Q♠ to pair j.o. 2100's queen, and after the J♠ turn and 8♦ river, Karola Peppe was out in ninth.
Shortly after the nine-hour break, the blinds had increased when Lena900 made a 2x raise to 16,000 from early position, then watched j.o. 2100 call from the cutoff. LaKabii responded by reraising all in from the button for 176,700, and when it folded back around Lena900 reraise-shoved over the top and j.o. 2100 stepped aside.
The flop came 3♦T♦J♥, giving Lena900 a set while leaving LaKabii looking for a queen to make a saving Broadway straight. The turn was the 7♠ and river the 8♥, and LaKabii was out in eighth.
Soon 88Xin88 open-pushed from the small blind and dhutt called all in for 161,475 from the big blind. Both players had picked up aces, but 88Xin88's A♠T♣ had dhutt's A♣8♦ dominated. The T♦7♠5♦ flop furthered 88Xin88's lead with a pair, but the 4♦ turn did give dhutt both straight and flush outs for possible survival. The river was the 7♥, however, and dhutt was out in seventh.
A short while later the blinds were 4,500/9,000 when 88Xin88 opened for 20,430 from the button, then Lena900 reraised to 52,845 from the small blind. It folded back to 88Xin88 who pushed all in for 549,507 total and Lena900 called.
It was 8♦8♣ for the player whose username contained eights while Lena900 had 6♥6♠. Alas for 88Xin88, the flop came 4♦6♦2♠ to give Lena900 a set of sixes -- "sick," typed Dan Alcazar -- and after the 7♦ turn and 7♠ river, 88Xin88 was elimiinated in sixth.
Just three hands later, Kaptian Kush opened with a min-raise to 18,000 from the button and got a single caller in Dan Alcazar from the big blind. The flop came 6♥9♣A♠. Dan Alcazar bet 27,000, KaptianKush raised to 68,550, Dan Alcazar reraised to 126,000, KaptianKush pushed all in for 200,232, and Dan Alcazar called.
KaptianKush had A♣T♥ for top pair, but Dan Alcazar had A♥9♥, having made a better two pair. The turn was the 6♠ and river the Q♠, and KaptianKush's Super Tuesday run had ended in fifth.
A couple of minutes later, shopeador open-raised all in from the button for 62,589 -- not quite seven big blinds -- and Dan Alcazar defended the big blind with a call. shopeador needed improvement with Q♥9♥ versus Dan Alcazar's K♠T♠. The board ran out A♠9♦2♣T♣6♦, and shopeador was out in fourth.
About five minutes after that Dan Alcazar min-raised to 20,000 from the button and got callers from both Lena900 (small blind) and j.o. 2100 (big blind). All three checked the 5♥7♦J♣ flop, then after the 4♥ came on the turn it checked to Dan Alcazar who bet 31,875. Lena900 folded, j.o. 2100 raised to 63,750, and Dan Alcazar called.
The river brought the 9♠ and a check from j.o. 2100, and when Dan Alcazar shoved, j.o. 2100 called all in with the 349,849 behind. j.o. 2100 showed J♠T♦ for top pair of jacks, but Dan Alcazar had 9♦4♦ for nines and fours for the better hand, and j.o. 2100 was done in third.
Dan Alcazar began heads-up play with the advantage, holding 1,745,465 to Lena900's 1,004,535. But Lena900 would chip up and after 10 minutes had edged in front. Then after winning another big hand Lena900 pushed up over 2 million to Dan Alcazar's stack of a little more than 700,000. Two hands later, the end would arrive.
The blinds were 6,000/12,000, and after Lena900 raised to 24,000, Dan Alcazar pushed all in and Lena900 called. Lena900 had K♠T♠ and the edge versus Dan Alcazar's K♥8♣. The T♣8♥4♣ paired both players' kickers, but Lena900 was still in front, and after the 4♥ turn and A♣ river it was all over -- Lena900 had won.
Congratulations to Lena900, this week's Super Tuesday champion who earns a nice score of $104,500 for topping the 550-player field.

On Sunday Argentina's Fabian Ortiz became the second two-time Latin American Poker Tour Main Event champion by winning LAPT7 Panama. Click here and read how he did it -- in fact using the exact same final hand with which he won his first LAPT title in 2009.
