Nick "FU_15" Maimone and Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia chop 8/12/14 Super Tuesday, earn $103K each
For the fifth straight week the Super Tuesday field increased, this time cracking that 600-player mark for the first time since late April. A total of 634 came out for PokerStars weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament, and after more than 12 hours of play there were two familiar players left topping them all, Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia playing from Canada and Nick "FU_15" Maimone playing from Honduras.
Mandavia and Maimone were nearly even in chips when their heads-up battle began, and they agreed to an even split of the remaining prize money, meaning there were two six-figure scores realized this week in the Super Tuesday as both earned $103,817.50.
That huge field meant a $634,000 prize pool, more than double the $300K guarantee, with the top 72 finishers splitting the cash.
By the six-hour break -- not quite halfway through what the tourney would ultimately take to play out -- they were down to 73 players and one off the cash, having been playing hand-for-hand for a short while already. filushh led the way then with over 178,000, with all in 2526 next in line with just over 152,000 and Onadownswing and KatePkrPro the only other players with six-figure stacks.
Shortly after play resumed, a short-stacked Red18_ATNEK open-pushed a stack of just under five big blinds with A♥Q♠, got called by Onadownswing holding K♦K♣, and after failing to improve became the unfortunate 73rd-place finisher, thus ensuring the other 72 remaining a profit on the night.
A little under two hours later they were down to 18 players. filushh and KatePkrPro were still sitting inside the top five, all in 2526 had an average stack, and Onadownswing had just been knocked out in 19th for a $3,804 cash. Meanwhile Nick "FU_15" Maimone had pushed up into the top spot with more than 460,000, about 100,000 clear of his nearest challenger.
It took more than 90 minutes for nine more players to fall. Bryan "IKnewwwIt" Leskowitz (18th), Jason "jadedjason" James (17th), and justnl2 (16th) each earned $5,072 for their finishes. Douglas "Dowgh-Santos" Souza (15th), keba91 (14th), and roo_400 (13th) made $6,340 apiece. And kofi89 (12th), HungryMamaaa (11th), and torino2000 (10th) each cashed for $7,608.
With filushh back in the top spot with nearly 565,000 and three players each playing from Israel and Canada, the final table was underway.
Seat 1: KatePkrPro (Canada) -- 378,303
Seat 2: Nick "FU_15" Maimone (Honduras) -- 508,681
Seat 3: Martin "filfedra" Staszko (Czech Republic) -- 165,187
Seat 4: OMGImsosick (Israel) -- 271,075
Seat 5: all in 2526 (Israel) -- 427,904
Seat 6: Noseblow (Sweden) -- 231,599
Seat 7: 4rebmun (Canada) -- 243,506
Seat 8: filushh (Israel) -- 564,813
Seat 9: Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia (Canada) -- 378,932
They played on then shortly after crossing the tourney's 10-hour mark the blinds were 6,000/12,000 when all in 2526 open-shoved for 187,818 from middle position, then 4rebmun called all in for 144,924 from a seat over. It folded to filushh in the small blind who called, then Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia reraised all in for 310,057 total and filushh called again.
It was a four-way all-in, and as it happened all four players had been dealt pocket pairs:
all in 2526: 2♦2♥
The board rolled out 5♠6♠7♣A♣Q♣ to improve no one, meaning Mandavia won with his kings, scoring knockouts of both Noseblow (9th) and all in 2526 (8th).
Just a couple of minutes later they were in the same level when Martin "filfedra" Staszko open-shoved for 77,812 from under the gun and got a single caller in filushh from the cutoff seat. Staszko had K♦T♠ and filushh A♣Q♠, and after the K♣5♥A♦9♣7♣ runout it was Staszko heading railward in seventh.
They moved into the next level where the blinds had increased to 7,000/14,000, and soon OMGIMsosick open-raised all in for 149,111 from the small blind and 4rebmun called from the big blind. OMGIMsosick was at risk with A♥T♦ versus 4rebmun's J♠J♣. The community cards came 7♦7♣K♦K♥9♥, and OMGIMsosick was done in sixth.
Shortly after it was Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia -- the new chip leader -- min-raising to 32,000 from early position then watching KatePkrPro reraising all in for 290,378 from a seat over. It folded to 4rebmun in the big blind who reraised all in over the top, forcing a fold from Mandavia.
KatePkrPro had A♦9♠ while 4rebmun had woken up with K♥K♦. The community cards came J♥9♥T♠Q♠8♠, putting a straight on the board but 4rebmun improved on it with a king-high straight, ending KatePkrPro's run in fifth.
The final four continued, then eventually decided to talk about a possible chop. At that point 4rebmun was leading with 991,300, Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia was next with 862,493, Nick "FU_15" Maimone was third with 725,038, and filushh fourth with 591,169.
Both "ICM" and "chip chop" numbers were produced (leaving $6,000 aside for the winner), but Maimone wanted a little more than what either set of figures guaranteed for him, and when the others wouldn't agree to give anything up play resumed.
A little while after that 4rebmun lost that advantageous position after losing a big 1.2 million-plus chip pot to Mandavia in a hand that saw both players make full houses, but 4rebmun the worse of the two. Then once the blinds had moved up to 9,000/18,000, a short-stacked 4rebmun open-raised all in to 164,447 from the button and filushh called from the small blind.
It was filushh's A♥T♣ against 4rebmun's K♦T♥. The board came nine-high -- 3♥9♦8♣3♣4♦ -- and 4rebmun was knocked out in fourth.
By the time the final trio had reached the 11-and-a-half-hour mark of the tournament they were stopping things again to try to strike a deal, with filushh on top with 1,241,696, Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia next with 1,047,708, and Nick "FU_15" Maimone third with 880,596.
This time only "ICM" figures were produced (again leaving $6K aside), and while Mandavia and filushh were fine with the figures, Maimone again asked for more.
pistons87: i agree
filushh: i agree
FU_15: i need 2k more
FU_15: bc of experience edge
FU_15: i need 2k more and we can deal
filushh: so why u r asking a deal no one is willine to give up one a cent
filushh: deal or play comon
Finally after several minutes passed, Maimone said he'd rather play than deal without getting extra from the others, and again cards were back in the air.
Again a big change happened when Mandavia earned a key pot, this time picking up one worth more than 1.6 million when doubling with J♣J♠ against filushh's A♥9♥.
Four hands later Mandavia made a minimum open to 60,000 from the button, Maimone called from the small blind, then filushh pushed for 237,757 from the big blind and only Maimone called.
FU_15 had 9♠9♦ while filushh had live cards with K♥T♣. The board rolled out 5♥J♠J♦2♣9♥, giving Maimone a full house and stopping filushh in third.
One hand later Maimone and Mandavia stopped the tournament one last time for another deal talk, with Mandavia sitting with 1,594,604 and Maimone 1,575,396. They agreed to an even chop with each guaranteed $103,817.50 -- the setting aside of extra money being overlooked -- and play soon resumed.
Despite the lateness of the hour and there being no more cash on the line (only TLB points), the pair fought gamely for three dozen hands, after which Maimone had the edge with about 1.83 million to Mandavia's 1.33 million.
Then a hand arose that saw FU_15 min-raise to 60,000 from the button, pistons87 three-bet to 150,000, and Maimone call. The flop came 5♠7♥3♠. Mandavia led for 180,000, Maimone shoved all in, and Mandavia called with all he had left.
Mandavia had the edge, but the 9♠ then fell on fourth street to give Maimone a better pair. The river was the 6♦, improving Mandavia to a set but giving Maimone a winning straight, and play had finally concluded.
Congratulations to Nick "FU_15" Maimone and Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia for their finishes and matching $103,817.50 scores, with Maimone's claim of that last hand giving him the honors as this week's winner.
