PikkuHUMPPA beats Moorman, Wheeler and Baron, wins 2/11/14 Super Tuesday for $107K

The Super Tuesday pulls in the biggest and best online grinders for a weekly $1,050 battle royale. Just look at some of the names who made the final table this week: Chris "Moorman1" Moorman, the first player to crack $10 million in online tournament winnings; Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler, who has close to $7 million in cashes across live and online MTTs; and Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron, who just finished third in the PCA Main Event for $1.2 million. But it was Finnish player PikkuHUMPPA who took the win to earn a handsome $107,028.89. The Super Tuesday is a great one to rail, but in case you can't make it then just drop in for our weekly report every Wednesday morning.

We'd noticed last week the Super Tuesday having once again managed to attract a field of 600-plus entrants, doing so for the second time this year. It happened 11 times in 2013, with the all-time high set on 3/19/13 when 663 players had participated.

It was clear well before the three-hour late registration period was over this week that there would be another 600-plus entrant field in PokerStars' weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament. And a little bit of drama ensued just as that three-hour window was closing, as it looked for a moment that the record would be broken. In the end 657 signed up -- the second-largest Super Tuesday field ever -- and after a little over 10 hours and 45 minutes it was PikkuHUMPPA of Finland winning following a three-way deal with AtlasC and Super Tuesday powerhouse Wheeler.

How we reached the bubble

By the five-hour mark the big field had shrunk down below 100 players with Paul "Paolo69" Foltyn on top as the first player to 100,000. About a half-hour after that Doommy became the unfortunate 82nd-place finisher after falling in a hand versus elof24 and the money bubble had burst.

That hand helped elof24 push past Paolo69 into second position, with BetBetShove9 having assumed the top spot with 81 remaining.

Over the next two-and-a-half hours the field was carved down to the final two tables. Among those hitting the rail during that period were Gustavo "PIUlimeira" Goto (80th, $1,905.30), EPT10 Barcelona Main Event champion Tom "hitthehole" Middleton (77th, $1,905.30), Vojta "Vojta_R" Růžička (69th, $2,102.40), Andrew "RunThisTable" Lichtenberger (60th, $2,299.50), LAPT6 Brazil Main Event champion Victor "VibizSbrissa" Sbrissa (49th, $2,463.75), John "LUFCBas" Spinks (46th, $2,463.75), Michael "Skämmes" Tureniec (41st, $2,628), Andrew "stato_1" Hulme (39th, $2,628), Bryn "BrynKenney" Kenney (30th, $2,956.50), Brandon "oncommand" Meyers (25th, $3,646.35), and Ben "Ben86" Tollerene (20th, $3,646.35).

Two tables remain

When former leader BetBetShove9 went out in 19th (also earning $3,646.35), it was Chris "Moorman1" Moorman topping the counts with 18 remaining with more than 360,000. Almost another hour-and-a-half would be needed for nine more to fall, with Moorman retaining first position for much of that period until others surged past including AtlasC who moved into first with more than 740,000.

Raistj (18th), I Visor I (17th), and Paul "Paolo69" Foltyn (16th) each earned $4,927.50 for their finishes. Dhr. Awesome (15th), ibluffgold (14th), and 41g3r (13th) made $6,241.50 apiece. And Thayer "THAY3R" Rasmussen (12th), Masterfo (11th), and elof24 (10th) each saw $7,555.50 added to their PokerStars accounts.

The final table

Just nine remained, each playing from a different country.

Seat 1: Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler (Mexico) -- 539,603
Seat 2: Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron (Canada) -- 250,838
Seat 3: jipvis (Netherlands) -- 169,098
Seat 4: milldollbaby (Norway) -- 541,647
Seat 5: AtlasC (Sweden) -- 744,739
Seat 6: MagicMan254 (Ireland) -- 268,575
Seat 7: PikkuHUMPPA (Finland) -- 129,103
Seat 8: KolayRuss (Russia) -- 147,995
Seat 9: Chris "Moorman1" Moorman (United Kingdom) -- 493,402

KolayRuss survived the first final table orbit but soon after would become the first of the final nine to fall.

With the blinds 4,500/9,000, leader AtlasC raised to 18,000 from early position, then KolayRuss reraised all in for 147,120 from a couple of seats over. It folded to Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler -- a three-time winner of the Super Tuesday -- who called the shove from the button, and both the blinds and AtlasC stepped aside.

Wheeler had T♥T♦ while KolayRuss needed to improve with A♣J♠. The flop came 6♣T♠2♠, however, giving jdtjpoker a set, and by the 7♦ turn KolayRuss was already drawing dead to finish in ninth.

About 10 minutes later it was MagicMan254 opening with a 2x raise to 18,000 from under the gun, then jipvis reraise-shoved for 99,392 from the button. The blinds folded, MagicMan254 called, and the players' hands were revealed:

MagicMan254: K♥Q♥
jipvis: A♣J♠

The 4♥J♦9♣ flop paired jipvis, but the K♠ fell on the turn to give MagicMan254 kings. The river was the T♦ to improve MagicMan254 further to a straight, and jipvis was done in eighth.

The remaining seven players pushed onward to the 10-hour break at which point PikkuHUMPPA had moved in front with more than 1.05 million, ahead of AtlasC in second with just under 975,000.

Play continued as the blinds increased to 6,000/12,000 with a 1,500 ante. Then Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron open-raised for 25,200 from early position, then milldollbaby reraised all in for 75,508 from one seat over. It folded back to Baron who called, showing Q♣J♦ to milldollbaby's A♥K♥. The board then ran out 8♦J♠6♦T♠6♠ to give Baron jacks and sixes and end milldollbaby's Super Tuesday run in seventh.

Five hands later MagicMan254 open-pushed for 114,687 from the small blind and PikkuHUMPPA called from the big blind. MagicMan254 had Q♠5♦ and PikkuHUMPPA A♦6♥, and five cards later -- J♥7♥4♥4♠7♣ -- MagicMan254 was knocked out in sixth.

Soon the blinds were 8,000/16,000 and after PikkuHUMPPA raised to 32,000 from UTG it was Chris "Moorman1" Moorman reraising to 73,450 from the next seat. It folded back around to PikkuHUMPPA who called, and the pair watched the flop come single-suited -- 8♥7♥4♥. PikkuHUMPPA checked, Moorman bet 60,300, then PikkuHUMPPA shoved all in and Moorman called with the 251,209 he had left behind.

Moorman had 9♠9♥ for an overpair, but PikkuHUMPPA had flopped a set with 7♣7♠. The T♠ fell on the turn to give Moorman an open-ended straight draw, but the K♦ fell on fifth street and Moorman was eliminated in fifth.

Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron would be the next to go in fourth shortly thereafter in a hand that began with Baron raising the minimum to 16,000 from under the gun. It folded to PikkuHUMPPA in the small blind who made it 68,777 to go, and when the action got back to Baron he shoved for 467,948 and PikkuHUMPPA called right away.

Baron had A♦2♣ while PikkuHUMPPA had Q♠Q♥. The flop would bring an ace for westmenloAA, but it also brought a queen, coming Q♣4♣A♠. The board ran out J♥ then 8♣, and Baron finished in fourth.

The remaining trio battled a short while longer then stopped the tournament to discuss a possible deal. At that point PikkuHUMPPA led with 1,628,325, Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler was next with 959,567, adn AtlasC third with 697,108.

Wheeler -- well-versed in these chops -- asked for "ICM"-based figures leaving $10,000 for which to play (instead of the usual $6K), and when the numbers were returned both PikkuHUMPPA and AtlasC quickly agreed. Wheeler wanted a little more, however, and after getting $700 extra from PikkuHUMPPA and $500 from AtlasC, the deal was done.

Soon PikkuHUMPPA raised 2x to 32,000 from the button, then Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler reraised to 96,000 from the small blind. It folded back to PikkuHUMPPA who pushed all in and Wheeler called with the 583,567 he had remaining.

Wheeler had picked up an ace with A♣9♦, and as it turned out had two overs as PikkuHUMPPA had 6♣6♥. The board brought no improvement for jdtjpoker, however, coming 8♦T♦2♣3♠K♦.

Wheeler had come up a couple of spots shy in his quest for a fourth Super Tuesday title after winning on 11/4/11, 3/5/13, and 4/23/13.

Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler

PikkuHUMPPA had a better than 2-to-1 advantage to start heads-up play with 2,237,892 to AtlasC's 1,047,108. They played 10 hands during which AtlasC chipped up over 1.46 million, but then the end came abruptly once a hand arose in which both players found they'd been dealt an ace among their hole cards.

Picking up A♥K♦, AtlasC just limped in from the button, then PikkuHUMPPA -- who had A♣J♠ -- raised to 52,000. AtlasC made it 160,000, then PikkuHUMPPA 484,000. AtlasC then shoved for 1,459,108 total and PikkuHUMPPA called.

AtlasC had the edge with the better kicker, but the 6♦T♦J♥ flop suddenly put PikkuHUMPPA in front with a pair of jacks. The turn was the 8♦ and the river the 5♠ and it was all over... PikkuHUMPPA had won!
