Elmagico19A1 conjures 12/1/15 Super Tuesday win, makes over $86K appear

It's Tuesday again which means another installment of the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament known as the Super Tuesday. This week saw the event play out in just under 10-and-a-half hours, with the Netherlands' Elmagico19A1 ultimately triumphing to take away a handsome cash prize of $86,546.90.

A total of 451 turned out for the Super Tuesday this week, creating a $451,000 prize pool and just beating the tournament's $450K guarantee. It would take just under six hours for those 451 to play down to 54 players and for the money bubble to burst, at which point winner of multiple Super Tuesdays Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler was leading in the counts.

A little over an hour-and-a-half later those 54 had become 18, with Wheeler still rolling in the top five and garyknife having jutted up into first position.

It would take only a little over a half-hour more for nine more players to be knocked out. First datushka (18th), Joshua "slayerv1fan" Hoesel (17th), and $h1tter$ (16th) were successively eliminated, each earning $4,059. Then Prestoniuss (15th), swonnny (14th), and Cathal "shinerrr" Shine (13th) were next out the door, picking up $4,961 apiece.

After that roo_400 (12th) and Secret_M0d3 (11th) fell, then after slipping in the counts Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler went out in 10th to fall shy of earning another Super Tuesday win. Those three each cashed for $5,863.

With garyknife still sitting on top with a big lead -- possessing more than twice the chips of the nearest challenger -- the final table was underway.

Seat 1: Copiaad (Sweden) -- 74,148
Seat 2: Elmagico19A1 (Netherlands) -- 306,327
Seat 3: Ducu26 (Romania) -- 101,758
Seat 4: kraftatze (Germany) -- 318,341
Seat 5: Ken "kenny05" Smaron (Costa Rica) -- 131,541
Seat 6: Leqenden (Belarus) -- 277,547
Seat 7: paul&shark7 (Ukbekistan) -- 194,511
Seat 8: cold_smile (Germany) -- 214,168
Seat 9: garyknife (Sweden) -- 636,659

About 15 minutes after the final table began, Leqenden -- who won the Super Tuesday earlier this year in February -- opened from late position, paul&shark7 three-bet from the next seat, then Copiaad called all in from the big blind for just under 35,000 (about five-and-a-half BBs) and Leqenden called.

The flop came 5♦J♦4♠, and Leqenden check-folded to a paul&shark7 bet. paul&shark7 then showed A♥J♥ for jacks while Copiaad had missed with A♦K♥. The turn and river were a couple of sevens, and Copiaad was done in ninth.

About one orbit later it was Ducu26 open-raising all in from early position for just over 100,000 (a little less than 16 BBs) with A♣J♥ but getting called by leader garyknife waiting in the small blind with A♠A♥. The board ran out eight-high -- 8♠8♣6♣7♠2♥ -- and Ducu26 was done in eighth.

A little later, just before the tournament reached the nine-hour mark, kraftatze made a just-over-2x raise to 16,920 from UTG, Ken "kenny05" Smaron called from next position, and garyknife called as well from the small blind.

The flop came 5♦J♠9♦ and it checked to Smaron who bet 29,900, with only kraftatze calling. The turn then brought the J♥ and after kraftatze checked, Smaron shoved for 87,761 and kratfatze called in a flash.

Smaron held A♦A♥ this time, but kraftatze had turned trips with J♦T♦. The river was the 2♥, and Smaron was sent railward in seventh.

About a half-hour later the blinds were 4,500/9,000 when paul&shark7 raised to 27,000 from middle position. garyknife then three-bet to 63,000 from the small blind, paul&shark7 pushed all in for 123,258 total, and garyknife called.

paul&shark7 had Q♥Q♣ while garyknife turned over A♠T♠, then the 4♦A♦6♣ flop swung the advantage to the chip leader. The turn was the J♦ and river the T♦, and paul&shark7 was knocked out in sixth.

That hand pushed garyknife further in front with over a million chips while no one else had half that much. Then in the final hand of the level, cold_smile lost a chunk to garyknife in a hand in which both flopped two pair, giving garyknife even more while making cold_smile the short stack.

The final five all made it to the next level -- with cold_smile down to less than 80,000 -- where the blinds were 5,000/10,000 with a 1,250 ante. Then suddenly in the next three hands came three straight eliminations to set up heads-up play.

In the first it folded around to cold_smile in the small blind who open-shoved all in with Q♣7♠, garyknife called with A♦T♣, and the board ran out A♠J♣7♥J♥3♦ to give garyknife the better two pair and stop cold_smile in fifth.

On the next hand, Leqenden opened from UTG for 22,500, Elmagico19A1 three-bet to 63,895 from the small blind, Leqenden shoved all in for 339,066 total, and Elmagico19A1 called.

Both had big hands, as Leqenden had picked up K♣K♠ and Elmagico19A1 A♠K♥. The flop came A♥J♣5♥, bringing a dreaded ace (from Leqenden's point of view), and after the 9♥ turn and T♠ river, Leqenden was collecting fourth-place money.

Then on the very next hand after that, kraftatze limped from the small blind, garyknife shoved all in, and kraftatze called with the almost 220,000 behind. kraftatze showed A♥7♠ while garyknife had T♣9♦. The 6♣8♥Q♦ flop and 2♥ turn were all okay for kraftatze, but the 9♥ fell on fifth street to pair garyknife, and kraftatze was out in third.

The last two players played just a single small hand before pausing play to discuss a possible deal, at which point garyknife had close to twice the amount of chips with 1,463,951 to Elmagico9A1's 791,049.

The pair were given "ICM"-based figures -- $73,537.72 for garyknife, $69,276.68 for Elmagico19A1, and $8,000 set aside for which to play. Elmagico19A1 asked for $70K even, and when garyknife responded "nahhh... lets play :)" Elmagico19A1 said "ok" and no deal was made.

garyknife continued to lead for the first part of heads-up, building up to about 1.56 million to Elmagico19A1's 690K when they decided to skip the break due at the tournament's 10-hour mark.

A couple of hands later, though, a change occurred in a hand that saw Elmagico19A1 reraise-shove with 6♠3♠ and run into garyknife holding Q♠Q♦. Fortunately for Elmagico19A1, the flop came 7♣4♦5♠ to make a straight, and by the turn garyknife was drawing dead.

"aaaaahhhhh" typed garyknife, responding to the pain of his queens being cracked.

The players had essentially traded stacks, with Elmagico19A1 now enjoying the 2-to-1 advantage.

They battled on another 15 minutes, during which Elmagico19A1 eventually whittled garyknife down under 360,000. Then with the blinds up to 7,000/14,000 a hand arose that saw garyknife min-raise from the button, Elmagico19A1 make it 79,985 to go, garyknife shove all in, and Elmagico19A1 quickly call.

Elmagico19A1: A♥J♦
garyknife: K♦6♦

Elmagico19A1 had the edge, and the J♠A♠5♣ flop increased that advantage by giving Elmagico19A1 two pair. The turn then brought the 3♠, making the river 6♠ no matter and giving Elmagico19A1 the win.

Congratulations to Elmagico19A1 for outlasting everyone to gather all the chips and collect that $86,546.90 first prize.
