Nik "Reraiseallin" Persaud perseveres, tops tough 1/27/15 Super Tuesday field for $108K

Every week the Super Tuesday -- the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament at PokerStars -- attracts super-sized fields full of super tough players, including some of the best tourney players online today. This week was no exception, with another final table full of familiar usernames from which Nik "Reraiseallin" Persaud of the U.K. ultimately emerged as the winner following a heads-up deal with CZMysakCZ of the Czech Republic.

Both players came away with super scores, too, with Persaud earning $108,000 for the win and CZMysakCZ $101,600 thanks to the deal. Those two survived a stacked final table that included Peter "Belabacsi" Traply, Nicolas "niccc" Chouity, Erik "Popiedejopie" van den Berg, Jose Angel "Cejakas14" Latorre, and João "Naza114" Vieira.

The 640-player field this week was the biggest since early December, building a $640,000 prize pool -- way over the $400K guarantee -- to be split among the final 72 players.

At the five-hour break they were still 15 off the money, although Team PokerStars Pro Online member Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara -- sitting in the middle of the pack with a just below average stack -- was already thinking about the cash.

It was toward the end of the tourney's sixth hour that the money bubble did finally burst, with Kihara still there in the middle of the remaining 72 and in the cash for a third straight Super Tuesday. Meanwhile Peter "Belabacsi" Traply had pushed out ahead of the field and would soon become the first player to 200,000.

Kihara would hang on a while longer before falling in 40th for a $2,880 win. Then as the tournament was approaching eight hours they were down to 18, with Peter "Belabacsi" Traply still the pace-setter with more than 440,000.

exposabre (18th), dirty.brasil (17th), and Joaquín "elmelogno4″ Melogno (16th) were the next out, each earning $5,120. Peter "Apathy123" Jetten (15th), hummylun (14th), and vip25459 (13th) followed, taking away $6,400 apiece. Then Sergi "srxakgirona" Reixach (12th), SirLocoFin (11th), and kaju85 (10th) successively were sent railward, each being rewarded with $7,680 for getting that far.

With Peter "Belabacsi" Traply still in the mix and Nik "Reraiseallin" Persaud the new chip leader with more than 940,000, the final table was underway.

Not long after the final table began, Peter "Belabacsi" Traply opened with a min-raise to 16,000 from early position, João "Naza114" Vieira reraised all in from a few seats over for a little under 225,000, and it folded back to Traply who called.

Vieira had picked up A♣K♦, but needed help versus Traply's K♥K♣. The board ran out 6♦6♠Q♥2♣5♣, sending Vieira out in ninth.

A little later it was flashdisastr making a just-over-2x raise to 20,585 from the cutoff, CZMysakCZ reraising all in from the small blind, and flashdisastr calling all in with the 217,256 left behind. flashdisastr had A♦Q♦ and CZMysakCZ A♣K♦. The 6♦6♠T♠ flop and K♣ turn paired CZMysakCZ while giving flashdisastr a gutshot draw, then the A♠ fell on the river and flashdisastr was eliminated in eighth.

Some time after that came two quick eliminations as Erik "Popiedejopie" van den Berg went out in seventh then Nicolas "niccc" Chouity in sixth.

In the first hand van den Berg open-shoved a stack of a little under 90,000 (nine big blinds) with A♠7♥, got called by CZMysakCZ with A♥K♠, and failed to improve.

On the very next hand, Nik "Reraiseallin" Persaud opened from the small blind, Chouity pushed from the big blind for almost 290,000, and Persaud called. Chouity had a pair with 5♣5♠ while Persaud held A♥8♠, an ace fell on the flop, and after Chouity couldn't catch up they were down to five.

The final five moved into the tourney's 11th hour, with Peter "Belabacsi" Traply still in the lead with nearly 1.5 million while CZMysakCZ was the nearest challenger with a little under 675,000.

Then came a hand in which ROMDOM open-raised all in from early position for about 132,000 (approximately nine-and-a-half big blinds) and got called by CZMysakCZ in the big blind. ROMDOM had A♥6♠ and CZMysakCZ 8♥8♣. The community cards came 9♥4♦7♠2♦8♦, giving CZMysakCZ a set and ending ROMDOM's run in fifth.

About 15 minutes later the blinds were 8,000/16,000 when Jose Angel "Cejakas14" Latorre opened big to 80,000 from under the gun, CZMysakCZ three-bet to 144,000 from the button, Latorre shoved for almost 166,000 total, and CZMysakCZ called.

CZMysakCZ had A♠Q♥, a hand that dominated Latorre's Q♣T♣ before the flop, and five cards later -- K♣2♦J♣7♥Q♠ -- Latorre was collecting fourth-place money.

The final three marched onward, then eventually came a pause in play for some deal talk. At that point Peter "Belabacsi" Traply was barely in first position with 1,233,075 with CZMysakCZ close behind with 1,226,401 while Nik "Reraiseallin" Persaud was in third with about 740,000.

"Chip chop"-based numbers were presented, leaving $8,000 for which to play. CZMysakCZ agreed, but Traply asked for a little less than $2,000 more. Then Persaud came in also asking for more than $3,000 what he was being offered, adding that he wouldn't agree to a deal otherwise. That's where the discussion ended, and cards went back in the air with no deal made.

Play continued for another 40 minutes, then a hand arose that saw Peter "Belabacsi" Traply open for the minimum to 60,000 from the button, CZMysakCZ shove over the top from the big blind, and Traply call all in with the 515,666 he had behind.

CZMysakCZ showed A♣2♣ and Traply A♦J♠, and after the 4♥4♠3♦ flop and Q♣ turn Traply continued to lead in the hand. But the river brought the 2♥ to pair CZMysakCZ's hand, and Traply was done in third.

The final two played one small hand and quickly stopped the tourney again to talk about a possible deal, with CZMysakCZ holding about 1.88 million to Nik "Reraiseallin" Persaud's almost 1.32 million. With "ICM" and "chip chop" numbers being identical during heads-up, the figures offered would give CZMysakCZ $102,931.83, Persaud $98,668.17, and leave $8K on the table.

Persaud wanted $100K, and after some thought CZMysakCZ agreed to give enough for that to happen. The deal having been made with both players guaranteed six-figure scores, cards went back in the air again to decide who would get the remaining $8K.

It took a while, but CZMysakCZ managed to whittle Persaud down under half a million before the latter earned a double-up with pocket treys versus CZMysakCZ's king-queen. A little later Persaud was in danger again after calling all in with A♥8♠ versus CZMysakCZ's A♠[10d], but a board of A♦6♠K♦K♣Q♦ enabled Persaud to survive with a split pot.

Then Persaud seized the advantage after doubling with pocket jacks versus CZMysakCZ's A♣7♠, pushing up over 2 million while the latter slipped below 1.3 million. They battled a little bit further, carrying the tournament up close to the 12-and-a-half-hour mark, when the final hand at last dramatically played out.

It started with a CZMysakCZ min-raise to 80,000 from the button, called by Persaud. The flop came 6♦4♦5♠, and after Persaud checked, CZMysakCZ bet 76,500. Persaud then check-raised to 199,999, CZMysakCZ made it 484,998 to go, then the player named Reraiseallin reraised all in and CZMysakCZ called with the 699,486 left behind.

Reraiseallin: 6♣4♣
CZMysakCZ: A♣A♦

Persaud had flopped two pair, and after the K♥ turn and T♦ river had successfully cracked CZMysakCZ's aces to win the extra $8K and a Super Tuesday title.

Congratulations to Nik "Reraiseallin" Persaud for the win and to CZMysakCZ as well for making it to the heads-up deal to also be able to secure that six-figure score.
