Super Tuesday: Kenny "SpaceyFCB" Hallaert cruises to $57K victory (8-1-17)

Past November Niner and 2017 SCOOP-High NLHE champ Kenny "SpaceyFCB" Hallaert is well-acquainted with the final table of the Super Tuesday, having appeared at it no less than three times in the past, most recently in a fourth-place finish this past March. Tonight he surpassed all his previous finishes, bringing the chip lead to the final table and making the most of a few big pots to become the latest Super Tuesday champion.

It wasn't a wire-to-wire win for Hallaert, who relinquished the lead twice at the final table before finally reclaiming it for good late in the heads-up portion of play. It was, however, a remarkably smooth ride. He took over the chip lead well before the payouts began in 47th place and maintained it until only he and these eight players remained:

Seat 1: LI0NB0Y (100,562 in chips)
Seat 2: gustavo5454 (941,004 in chips)
Seat 3: AllLoot4Me (1,092,530 in chips)
Seat 4: tezmoney (1,210,774 in chips)
Seat 5: Ludovic "ludovi333" Geilich (1,042,894 in chips)
Seat 6: Niall "Firaldo87" Farrell (1,219,203 in chips)
Seat 7: Kenny "SpaceyFCB" Hallaert (1,710,197 in chips)
Seat 8: Markku "markovitsus" Koplimaa (755,629 in chips)
Seat 9: SuaveIvey22 (402,207 in chips)

Past Sunday 2nd Chance winner SuaveIvey22 could have used a second chance at this final table. The Australian player moved all-in for 399,707 chips on the button on the first hand with K♦ K♠, coming over the top of a three-bet from Markku "markovitsus" Koplimaa. markovitsus called with pocket queens and caught queens full of tens on the river of the 3♦ T♣ T♠ 6♦ Q♣ board, earning the 913,664-chip pot and eliminating SuaveIvey22 in ninth.

Lebanon's LI0NB0Y, who chopped the Super Tuesday before falling heads-up to Jason "jdtjpoker" Wheeler in 2013, was on the short stack now and eventually opened the action all-in for 113,124 chips in middle position with Q♠ T♠. Past Sunday Million finalist tezmoney called on the button with A♦ Q♣, which remained ahead after the board came 4♦ 7♦ 5♣ 4♥ 8♠. tezmoney took the pot and LI0NB0Y took eighth.

Unlike the first two players to bust, AllLoot4Me came to the table with plenty of chips - a bit more than 40 big blinds. gustavo5454, who won the $55 Sunday Stack back in June, came in with a bit less than 40 blinds, and they were still separated by a small amount when they clashed in a pre-flop coin flip situation. gustavo5454 raised on the button and then called all-in with A♦ K♠ when AllLoot4Me jammed in the small blind with 4♣ 4♠. gustavo5454 made first a pair of kings and then a Broadway straight on the T♣ 6♣ J♠ K♦ Q♦ board to earn the 1.5-million-chip pot.

That left AllLoot4Me with less than four big blinds' worth of chips. The player from Malta managed an unlikely double with A♥ J♠ a few hands later against past Super Tuesday champ and WCOOP 2016 High Roller PLO champ Ludovic "ludovi333" Geilich's A♠ K♣. Getting in with a dominated hand didn't go as well the next time around, though. AllLoot4Me jammed on the button with J♦ T♣ and made a queen-high straight when the board came 5♣ Q♥ T♦ 8♥ 9♦, but tezmoney's king-high straight with K♠ J♠ earned the pot to bust AllLoot4Me in seventh.

EPT12 Dublin Main Event winner and 2016 SCOOP-High Mix-Max NLHE champ Niall "Firaldo87" Farrell began transitioning from short stack to contender a few hands later after opening all-in for 657,578 chips - a little less than 19 big blinds - with A♥ 5♥ on the button. SpaceyFCB's T♣ T♠ was a 2-to-1 favorite in the small blind but Firaldo87 turned a wheel straight to stay alive.

That win moved Firaldo87 far enough out of the cellar that he had a buffer 20 minutes later when he called with A♠ 9♦ in the big blind after ludovi333 jammed for 620,890 chips in the small. ludovi333's 6♦ 6♣ fell behind on the flop of the 8♣ 4♥ 9♣ 5♥ T♠, ending his second Super Tuesday final table appearance of this year in sixth.

SpaceyFCB had fallen a bit behind with all the major pots so far going to other players, but soon he found a way back into the lead at markovitsus's expense. He defended the big blind with Q♠ 9♠ against markovitsus's under-the-gun raise to 112,445 chips, then checked when the 7♣ 9♣ 9♥ gave him trip nines. He led for 178,679 on the 5♦ turn, then check-called 465,254 more after the 8♣ river and showed down the three of a kind he'd been playing since the flop. That topped markovitsus's bluffing A♣ J♠ and earned the 1.56-million-chip pot.

Back in the lead, SpaceyFCB continued to play steady poker for the next 20 minutes before finding himself in a coin-flip with markovitsus, who re-raised all-in for 964,684 chips in the small blind with 7♣ 7♥ after SpaceyFCB opened with A♦ K♦ on the button. SpaceyFCB called and made aces and kings on the Q♠ 5♠ A♥ Q♥ K♥, locking up the 2.01-million-chip pot and sending markovitsus to the rail in fifth.

That was the last of the significant action for the 12:00 a.m. ET hour. The blinds and antes advanced to 30,000/60,000/6,000 when play resumed after the break, with gustavo5454 and SpaceyFCB vying for the lead and tezmoney and Firaldo87 both holding just under 20 big blinds' worth of chips. Firaldo87 defended the big blind all-in with A♣ Q♦ against gustavo5454's button-raising K♣ J♣ a few minutes after returning. gustavo5454 turned a flush and Firaldo87 missed a chance to top it with one more club on the river of the 9♣ 8♣ 2♠ 7♣ 9♥ board, leading the Irishman out in fourth.

SpaceyFCB cut out the other short stack three hands later. He called with A♥ J♣ in the big blind after tezmoney shoved for 1.24 million chips with A♦ 8♦ in the small blind, winning on kickers as the board came 9♥ K♦ 4♦ K♣ 6♠ and eliminating tezmoney in third.

Separated by just 10 big blinds as heads-up play began, SpaceyFCB and gustavo5454 quickly struck a deal based on chip count and then got back to the game. gustavo5454 stayed ahead in the early going but eventually the key pots began moving in the other direction.

First SpaceyFCB raised the button with J♥ 3♥, flopped a pair of treys, and dodged gustavo's combo flush-and-gutshot draw with 7♦ 6♣ to win 1.44 million chips. Then he moved all-in on the turn with the board reading 8♣ T♠ Q♣ 9♥, forcing gustavo5454 to fold with 2.34 million chips in the pot. gustavo5454 chipped back to even with a series of small wins, but then he folded to an all-in check-raise on the turn of a Q♥ J♥ J♣ T♠ board, moving SpaceyFCB back ahead again.

The turning point came seven hands later when SpaceyFCB min-raised with K♦ 9♠ on the button and made top pair on the 8♦ 3♦ K♠ flop after gustavo5454 flat-called in the big blind. The Brazilian check-called 120,000 there, another 400,000 on the 9♦ turn, and 880,000 more on the 7♥ before mucking when SpaceyFCB showed down kings and nines. Three hands later both players made a pair of sixes on the 7♠ 2♣ 6♣ flop - SpaceyFCB with A♣ 6♥ and gustavo5454 with K♦ 6♠. All the chips went in there, and SpaceyFCB stayed ahead as the board ran out 2♥-7♥ to bring the tournament to a close.

Congratulations to Kenny "SpaceyFCB" Hallaert for finally breaking through in the Super Tuesday after multiple previous final table appearances - and to gustavo5454 for striking the deal and holding firm against one tough heads-up opponent.
