Sunday Warm-up: profiles in winning, proFile takes Sunday Warm-up title Mizzi finishes third
A festive weekend with Christmas Day followed by Boxing Day being celebrated today meant for a smaller crowd in today's $750,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-up. Not really. 4,366 players follow their way thru Nutter Butter snowman cookies and return lines at the retail stores for returning those Rudolph light-up socks from Aunt Marge to play in today Sunday Major. A prize pool of $873,200.00 was up for grabs with $136,989.36 going to the lucky player who can outlast them all.
Team PokerStars may have drank a little too much egg nog last night as they were all shut out from the cashier's window. Chris Moneymaker (734th place), Toni Judet (789th place), Dusty "Leatherass9" Schmidt (1212th place), and Matthias De Meulder (1314th place) all got in striking distance of cashing tonight. But, not as close as Andre Akkari. While checking in near the bubble it appeared the Brazilian pro was going to ease across the 630 player mark after which everyone was assured $314.35 but in a blink Akkari would be knocked out painfully close to the bubble finishing out of the money in 636th place.
After taking down the Sunday Warm-up last week, Dsavo was making a run at back-to-back titles but settled for two consecutive cashes instead (365th place, $392.94). And a recognizable name kept climbing up the leaderboard. Sorel "zangbezan24" Mizzi (who won this tournament in October) continued to collect chips, enough in fact to make our final nine this evening. Down to ten players with five a side at two tables, on Mizzi's table tony1967 would open shove from the button for 1.01 million chips. With the blinds at 80K/160K ante 16K, inwooke in the big blind covered and made the call holding A♣2♣. A couple of diamonds for tony1967 J♦K♦ as both players hit the A♥ 5♣ J♥ flop. inwooke led with the aces and top pair would prove to be enough after the 7♣ turn and 2♦ river laid out to start up our final table.

No time to exchange pleasantries
While nearly half the table was still unracking their chips, MuppetKing was trying to take down the first pot with a raise to 344,250 chips from the cutoff. scarface2911 on the immediate left said "say hello to my little friend" and shoved for 2.9 million. "It better be a big friend" MuppetKing may have stated after covering and calling with pocket jacks J♣J♥. Suddenly scarface2911's pocket ducks were drowning and never threatened the jacks on the 9♥ 6♣ 9♠ 9♦ 7♥ board to finish the Sunday Warm-up final table after the first hand in ninth place ($6,985.60). Certainly not scarface2911's first time at a major final table as seen in his April's Super Tuesday run to third place that netted nearly $40K.
Mizzi ponders and collects chips
Looking for a second Sunday Warm-up title Sorel "zangbezan24" Mizzi would raise it up to 420.828 chips from the cutoff with the blinds at 100K/200K ante 20K and found a frustrated Sirocko on the button who instead of three-betting just shoved all in for 5.2 million. Back to Mizzi he would knock about 15 seconds off his timer before calling with pocket nines 9♣9♥. The call was a good one as Sirocko flipped up presto 5♠5♦ and did not improve on the K♣ 6♣ T♦ Q♥ 6♦ board to finish in eighth place ($10,915.00). This five figure score added to the Sunday Million fourth place finish just two weeks ago for $82K made this holiday season a very profitable one for Sirocko.
Mizzi on target tonight
Sometimes it's just a person's night to win. Watch KarabasW take his stack up against the chip leading Sorel and painfully watch those chips add to Mizzi's stack.
KarabasW's pocket queens Q♣Q♦ were a heavy favorite to win the 8.5 million chip pot but Mizzi's pocket tens would find one sitting on the end of the flop and took the set of tens to the house for the win 8♦ 6♦ T♣ 3♣ 7♥. Mizzi's stack would grow to over 18 million chips while KarabasW settled for a $19,647.00 bad beat story in seventh place.
If you find pocket queens just fold them tonight
The very next hand more big action preflop as proFile made a raise to 425,666 with the blinds holding at 100K/200K ante 20K. inhidonks sitting on the immediate left three-bet to 1.04 million as it folded around the table to proFile who made it an even two million. Back to inhidonks, fed up with the raising, five bets all in for 4.8 million holding pocket queens Q♦Q♣. The cursed ladies would not be ahead this time preflop as proFile covered and snap called with aces A♦A♠. Unlike the previous hand there would be no suck out as the 3♣ 2♣ 7♥ J♠ 2♥ board did not help the unlucky ladies and inhidonks was gone in sixth place ($28,379.00). Wow, everyone tonight seems to have big prior scores, inhidonks was no different snagging a final table at this year's WCOOP Event #1 and taking fifth place for over $40K.
Woo'd from the tournament
Just nine hands later but after the blinds moved up to 125K/250K ante 25K, proFile was trying to build from eliminating inhidonks by raising to 555,555 chips from the button. inwooke decided to defend the small blind by shoving for 2.6 million. Easily covering, proFile made the call holding pocket sevens 7♦7♥. A race for inwooke who turned up Q♥K♦ but despite catching a few more outs to a straight on the flop, the 4♣ A♠ J♥ 6♠ 8♥ could not come up with anymore broadway cards and inwooke was out the door in fifth place ($37,111.00).
Rubik's Cube solved
Watch the biggest pot of the tournament go down as proFile and THE CUBE decide to heat things up preflop for a 22.1 million chip pot:
proFile came up with aces A♦A♣ at the right time once again. This time after THE CUBE tried a little squeeze play with Q♠A♠ and got caught by a bigger hand. After fours and jacks rained down on the 4♠ J♥ 4♥ J♦ 4♦ board 22.1 million chips slid over to proFile knocking the THE CUBE from the tournament in fourth place ($49,335.80).
No repeat for Mizzi
Mizzi would lose some steam after doubling up MuppetKing in an 11.6 million chip pot and continued to bleed chips going into the 150K/300K ante 30K blind level where he would make his last stand. After MuppetKing made a raise to 645,250 from the small blind, zangbezan24 would shove for 3.7 million. Holding a pair of treys 3♦3♣ MuppetKing made the call. Mizzi flipped up a medium ace A♠9♥ but found nothing to match it with on the 4♦ J♦ K♦ 4♥ 2♠ board as Sorel Mizzi would not notch a second Sunday Warm-up title this year and exited the final table in third place ($72,039.00).
Gonzo versus proFile
Or is Kermit the king? Regardless, MuppetKing would enter heads-up play versus proFile at a slight disadvantage (24.8 million to 18.8 million) but both had lots of play with the blinds at 150K/300K ante 30K. After a few quick hands as the two stacks became more equal the players pulled Team PokerStars online Jorge Arias aside to split up the remaining prize pool.
Deal set, $10,000.00 set aside for tonight's champ, game on.
MuppetKing takes early lead
Moving into the 200K/400K ante 40K blind level, MuppetKing who was last seen at a Major final table here at PokerStars during the 2009 SCOOP Event #4 NLHE tourney taking sixth for $8.3K shot out to a sizable 37.9 million to 5.7 million chip lead before proFile managed to double thru with A♦J♣ versus A♠7♥ on a suck, and river re-suck roller coaster 8♥ 4♦ 8♦ 7♦ A♥ board to get back to 11.4 million.
proFile'd for winning
After the blinds moved up to 250K/500K ante 50K proFile and MuppetKing decided to duke it out preflop. Watch the results below:
T♥9♦ for proFile who who tried to shove MuppetKing off his min raise from the button, but MuppetKing decided to make the call with A♥7♣. The J♠ K♥ 8♥ flop was clean for both players but added straight outs for proFile. 3♣ on the turn left MuppetKing one card from victory again, but the Q♦ on the river gave proFile the straight and the chip lead with the 24.8 million chip pot.
Third time's a charm
Seven hands later the two would get their chips in the middle preflop again, but this time MuppetKing's tournament life was on the line holding pocket eights 8♦8♥ and dominating the 8♠A♥ of proFile. 9♣ 4♥ 5♠ on the flop looked like MuppetKing was ready to take back the chip lead with interest. J♥ on the turn and 35.9 million chip pot balanced towards the Jim Henson fan but once again the river failed MuppetKing as the A♣ fell and proFile took home the additional $10,000.00 and the last 2010 Sunday Warm-up title!
