Stofzuiger73 claims second Sunday Warm-Up title in 2011

new_sunday_warmup_thumb.PNGThe end of May comes amidst a season of change. Not only are the actual seasons changing, but many people are gearing up for holidays and vacations, and poker players are trying to make their way to the Nevada desert for the 2011 World Series of Poker.

But change is also coming to the Sunday Warm-Up. Beginning next week, the start time for this tournament will be moved two hours earlier, meaning it will kick into action at 11:00 ET. And to celebrate, the June 5th tournament will offer double its usual $500K guarantee. So make sure to set your alarms and schedules to avoid missing next week's Warm-Up with a $1 million guarantee! Details about all tournament changes can be found at this link.

And now to the matter at hand: this week's tournament! The final numbers were in after registration closed and showed the following:

Players: 3,177
Guarantee: $500,000
Actual prize pool: $635,400
Paid finishers: 495

With that, the hours passed as players tried to reach the money bubble. When they did, the final 495 players were guaranteed a minimum $292.28. And among those players who cashed was only one member of Team PokerStars, Alex "J0hnny_Dr@m@" Zervos, who finished the tournament in 197th place.

Moving on into the sixth and seventh hours, the field diminished further until it reached two tables in that seventh hour. By 15 minutes into the eighth hour, gera-hott23 was out in 11th place, and hand-for-hand was instigated. And minutes later, the_snail03 moved all-in from the big blind. Original raiser Big Pig 63 called with K♠K♥, which was up against the A♥6♠ of the_snail03. The board looked positive for a double-up as it came A♣4♣5♥Q♥, but the K♣ dropped on the river to eliminate the_snail03 in tenth place with $3,812.40.

Big Pig 63 with big initial lead

In Level 30, with blinds at 50,000/100,000 and a 10,000 ante, the final table was set as follows:

Seat 1: cut 07 (1,590,322 in chips)
Seat 2: HADJI.cy (1,708,824 in chips)
Seat 3: selkoter (4,328,396 in chips)
Seat 4: Willy Banaan (722,242 in chips)
Seat 5: 1-ronnyr3 (6,045,093 in chips)
Seat 6: Theo7171 (4,839,120 in chips)
Seat 7: TerranUser (3,073,314 in chips)
Seat 8: stofzuiger73 (2,272,697 in chips)
Seat 9: Big Pig 63 (7,189,992 in chips)

Play started with relative caution, but the original short stack was even lower than when the table started. That led Willy Banaan to move all-in preflop with A♥T♣, and selkoter called from the big blind with Q♦J♣. The flop of 9♠J♠5♥ immediately gave selkoter the lead, and it remained that way through the 4♠ turn and 4♣ river. Willy Banaan was the first to leave the final table, taking home $5,083.20 for ninth place.

A huge battle ensued a bit later, as selkoter doubled through chip leader Big Pig 63 as seen here:

And that gave selkoter a solid chip lead over the group of eight, despite a subsequent double of HADJI.cy through selkoter. Cut 07 doubled through 1-ronnyr3.

Big Pig 63 finally chose to get involved with selkoter again, this time to see a J♠J♦T♥ flop. A bet from selkoter led to the all-in check-raise from Big Pig 63, and selkoter called with A♠A♥. Big Pig 63 had the draw with K♥Q♠, but it didn't hit as the 2♥ and 4♥ completed the board. That left Big Pig 63 out after a big fall from the lead, out in eighth place with $7,942.50.

Solid upswing for stofzuiger73

Stofzuiger73 doubled through selkoter twice, and HADJI.cy did the same once through 1-ronnyr3.

Theo7171 tried the same, agreeing to call all-in after selkoter put him to the test with an all-in bet from the small blind. Theo7171 did agree to risk it with K♦K♥, and selkoter showed A♥Q♦. Though the flop of 5♠7♥8♠ was innocent enough, the A♣ dropped on the turn to give selkoter the advantage. The 8♦ on the river eliminated Theo7171 in seventh place with $14,296.50.

After stofzuiger73 doubled through cut 07, the latter was on a short stack and called all-in from the big blind on the next hand after an all-in move from 1-ronnyr3. Cut 07 showed Q♠2♦, but 1-ronnyr3 had 8♦8♠, and the pocket pair held up to the J♥2♥T♣4♣9♥ board. That left cut 07 out in sixth place with $20,650.50.

TerranUser was quiet during most of the action and finallly moved all-in with A♠Q♥ from the big blind. Original raiser selkoter called with A♦J♥ but hit the straight on the 6♥T♦9♠4♥8♠ board. TerranUser was out in fifth place with $27,004.50.

Only two hands later, HADJI.cy risked it all with Q♥7♠ from the small blind, and selkoter called from the big blind with 9♥4♥. The flop only gave HADJI.cy more outs to win the hand, but the 9♦ on the turn gave selkoter the advantage. The J♣ on the river turned that into two pair for selkoter, who took the pot while HADJI.cy exited in fourth place with $36,535.50.

The following double-up of stofzuiger73 through selkoter was another positive step for stofzuiger73:

And that would secure a place in heads-up for stofzuiger73, as 1-ronnyr3 soon moved all-in with 5♦5♥ against the A♦9♠ of selkoter, and the 7♦9♥K♠K♥3♠ board eliminated 1-ronnyr3 in third place with $54,420.50.

Let's make a deal!

Seat 3: selkoter (26,056,848 in chips)
Seat 8: stofzuiger73 (5,713,152 in chips)

After only a few hands, the two paused action in order to discuss a deal. And they soon agreed to $87,379.37 for selkoter and $76,721.13 for stofzuiger73, with $10,000 set aside for the eventual winner.

Stofzuiger73 proceeded to double through selkoter once with when pocket eights beat pocket queens with an eight on the flop. And a bit later, stofzuiger73 doubled in a 20 million-chip pot with K-8 over J-7 on a board that gave selkoter trip sevens but made a flush for stofzuiger73.

Just four hands later, the two got involved again, this time with raises as the Q♦J♠3♥ flop and 5♣ turn were shown. After that turn, a bet from stofzuiger73 led to an all-in check-raise from selkoter, and stofzuiger73 called with J♦3♦ and two pair. Selkoter showed Q♠9♥ for top pair only, and the 3♣ on the river gave stofzuiger73 the full house. Selkoter had to settle for $87,379.37 for second place.

And stofzuiger73 of the Netherlands added another Sunday Warm-Up win to his list of accomplishments. After taking down a Warm-Up in March of 2011, this makes two titles, and for this second victory, stofzuiger73 took home $86,721.13. Congrats!
