Sunday Warm-up: dr.greenish surgically removes field in $152K win

sunday-warmup-thumb.jpgViktor "Isildur1" Blom did not play in tonight's $750,000.00 guarantee Sunday Warm-up. Instead he was tangled with Daniel "w00ki3z." Cates for his third SuperStar Showdown. Unfortunately, your humble blogger did not have the minimum buy-in to chat at the table with Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu but I am sure several of the 4,864 players who ramped up the prize pool to $972,800.00 in tonight's tournament would have no problem with such chat exclusions.

Team PokerStars pro Katja Thater would find herself sliding just past the bubble good enough for 685th place ($311.29) after the 720 player bubble burst with schmette breaking shortly after hour four. Two Team PokerStars players would find themselves a little higher up the pay ladder however as Dusty "Leatherass9" Schmidt and Joep"Pappe_Ruk" van den Bijgaart still found their tournament chips on the table.

Joep would lose out on one of those hands that make you groan afterwards as he hit a full house on the river with the board showing 2♠ T♠ 8♦ 8♣ 9♣ and calmly turning over 9♠8♠ for a huge 333,496 chip pot with the blinds at 3K/6K ante 600. But, his opponent just as calmly flipped up the bigger boat T♦T♣ and Joep was out in 313th place ($447.48).

A little further up the pay scale, Schmidt would take a tough beat against Blue Knight1 after the two got it preflop for a 229,628 chip pot with the blinds at 5K/10K ante 1K. Holding 9♣A♦ "Leatherass9" was looking good for a double up over the 3♣A♣ of Blue Knight1, but a trey on the turn 6♠ Q♦ 7♥ 3♠ J♠ sunk the Team Online member as Dusty would finish off his remaining chips on the next hand as the last Team PokerStars player finishing in 186th place ($583.68).

The final two tables would play aggressive poker for nearly an hour but short stacks found a way to stay in the mix with double ups and re-steals then AlusivPnkBny get his pocket queens Q♥Q♦ get stuck in Taffyfella's pocket aces A♣A♥ to finish in 11th place ($5,788.16). Then the ick happened. On the verge of a five figure and possible six-figure score ringosnuff had to watch this:

Pocket kings for ringosnuff K♣K♥ needed to just pass the river card against dr.greenish's A♦J♥ with the board showing 4♥ 4♠ 3♣ 5♣. River 2♥ giving dr.greenish the wheel, the 9.2 million chip pot, and ringosnuff a very costly bad beat story in 10th place ($5,788.16). ringosnuff will have to wait to beat out the $44K won at the Super Tuesday tourney in November.

A sweet tooth for chips

redporn36 would lead off the betting from UTG for 480,000 with the blinds at 80K/160K ante 16K as it folded around to Taffyfella in the small blind who would shove 3.7 million chips and cover redporn36's stack. After a quick pause redporn36 would call holding pocket fours 4♣4♦ hoping for the race that was not going to happen, as Taffyfella's ladies Q♥Q♣ looked hungry for the 6.1 million chip pot. No fours on the 8♠ J♣ 5♠ T♥ 8♦ board meant good night to redporn36 in ninth place ($7,782.40).

Paging DrCaligula to the exit

It would take over 30 minutes for the next elimination as we pick up play with the blinds at 125K/250K ante 25K and DrCaligula is low on chips deciding to open shove 2.3 million from early position as it folded around to and217 in the big blind who covered easily making the call with pocket fives 5♥5♠. Presto magic worked quickly as a five popped off on the flop T♥ 5♦ Q♦ rendering DrCaligula nearly out of commission with A♦T♠. But, the A♠ hit the turn opening up four outs on the river that failed to materialize as the K♣ fell knocking off DrCaligula in eighth place ($12,160.00).

nutsbabyaa says it best "woooooooooooow"

Just watch below at this 11 million chip pot with the blinds at 150K/300K ante 30K all in preflop between dr.greenish and Juecksel:

K♦J♦ for Juecksel and dr.greenish covering and holding Q♠A♦. Both players would hit huge with a flopped nut straight for Juecksel and top two pair for dr.greenish A♠ T♦ Q♥ leaving dr.greenish with just four outs on the turn and river. 8♦ on the turn helped no one but the A♣ on the river gave dr.greenish the boat and sent Juecksel off the table wondering what just happened in seventh place ($21,888.00).

Waking up the other doctor

After DrCaligula took leave the other doctor, dr.greenish, took it upon himself to win one for the medical community and continue those knockout ways seven hands later with the blinds still at 150K/300K ante 30K and facing an all-in push from Zindy Lou for 3.3 million chips. Holding 11 million in chips in the big blind dr.greenish would make the call flipping up 8♣A♦ as Zindy Lou showed Q♦J♣. dr.greenish would flop an unnecessary eight as the board 8♦ 4♠ K♣ T♥ 7♠ provided the good doctor with another 7.1 million chips while Zindy Lou was shown the side door in sixth place ($31,616.00).

All tangled up and nowhere to go

Taffy is rather sticky but unfortunately for Taffyfella the cards would not mesh with the ones on the board after open shoving for 2.5 million with the blinds still at 150K/300K ante 30K. and217 sitting on the button reshoved over the top holding pocket queens Q♣Q♠ as Taffyfella's sugar high was about to come down when the A♦2♦ in his hand failed to find any part of the 5♦ 3♣ 8♠ 7♠ 3♥ board finishing in fifth place ($41,344.00).

Nuts Nuts Baby

nutsbabyaa was one hand from getting to the 10th hour break with a very short stack sitting on 2.6 million chips and the blinds moving up to 200K/400K ante 40K. A shove from the button was the play as dr.greenish would go for knockout number two reshoving as the big blind folded. nutsbabyaa did not have rockets, settling on 8♥K♦ as dr.greenish was ahead with T♣A♦ and nutsbabyaa could not dance his way to a win as the board came down 9♣ 7♦ 4♣ 3♣ 9♠ shipping 5.7 million chips to to dr.greenish and sending $54,963.20 nutsbabyaa in fourth place.

Mine are bigger than yours

mistakooll:"you guys are about to play one of the best players in the world" warned mistakooll. We don't know about "the world" but Alex "mistakooll" Keating does have a hefty line of big wins including Event #23-high at the 2010 SCOOP for $245K. But, this was not dr.greenish's first time in the big lights at this tournament either, after making the final table here in December 2009 taking home fifth for $38K. As the three remaining players as trio of rounders could not come to terms with dr.greenish holding a very sizable lead over the other two. and217 and mistakooll asked for too much as Team PokerStars Online member Steven Paul started up the cards again.

And Out

Six hands after the quashed chop talks, mistakooll and and217 decided to take their chances preflop with dr.greenish holding over 30 million in chips. With 5.9 million, air217 would shove over the top of mistakooll's min button raise as the self-proclaimed short-handed specialist made the call holding A♥8♦. and217's K♦J♣ was a little behind and unfortunately stayed that way after ace flopped and carried thru the 6♠ A♦ 3♠ 9♦ 5♦ board to ship 12.1 million to mistakooll. and217 would carry $80,256.00 for third place.

Heads-up but first a message from our sponsor

Both players tried again to chop up the remaining pot but mistakooll still holding to the "I'm the better player" line of thought was asking for more money despite the 30 million to 18 million chip lead enjoyed by dr.greenish.

"Play on then?" asked Steven Paul
"yep" said dr.greenish

And we returned to the felt without a deal and 200K/400K ante 40K blinds.

From even to done in two hands

Keating would manage to pull things tight after the blinds moved up to 250K/500K ante 50K and take a very slender lead at 24.4 million to 24.2 million but things quickly went in the wrong direction. After a min-raise from the button by mistakooll, dr.greenish called to see a Q♠ 4♣ 2♠ flop. Check by dr.greenish and 987,500 chip c-bet by Keating got another call. Q♣ on the turn and dr.greenish led out for 1.2 million as Keating bumped it to 2.8 million as dr.greenish again made the call. River J♦ and dr.greenish tried to make mistakooll go away with a four million chip bet, but was called flipping up Q♦6♦ as Keating mucked shipping the 17.6 million chip pot to dr.greenish.

The next hand you will need to watch the 31.1 million chip flip below:

Flopped set for mistakooll's pocket eights 8♦8♠ was looking great against the A♦9♠ of dr.greenish on the 8♥ Q♦ T♠ board leaving just an inside straight draw for dr.greenish. K♠ on the turn did not help, but the J♠ did, completing the broadway straight and shipping the entire non-chopped first place prize of $152,177.48 to dr.greenish!
