Sunday Warm-up: Owen "ocrowe" Crowe claims the six-figure win

new_sunday_warmup_thumb.PNGIt is crunch time for the rounders at PokerStars. The World Championship of Online Poker is starting up in a scant three week and players are scrambling to grab as many satellite wins for a shot at that $30,000,000 in guarantees over three weeks of non-stop high rolling action. The 3,241 players in tonight's $500,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-up may be looking ahead to those massive payday's ahead but certainly not overlooking the potential six-figure payout at tonight's final table.

Team PokerStars Pros and Team Online showed up to the party tonight ready to take their shares of the $648,200.00 prize pool. Jose "nachobarbero" Barbero was the first Team Pro to cross the payoff line of 495 players finishing just on the right side of the bubble (487th place, $298.17). Liv Boeree was found in the money once again after cashing in last week's Sunday Warm-up in 349th place, tonight she would collect few more bucks in 287th place ($388.92). Boeree was not the only pro to make the money here in two straight weeks, Richard Toth joined her at the cashiers window, this week taking home $453.74 for 237th place.

Toth's elimination marked the end of the Red Spade pros in the Sunday Warm-up and since last week's champ, mr. salgado30, busted in 1573rd place we would be welcoming a new champion this week. A cruel wait for the bubble to burst as the hourly five minute break came up just after PEQUE ATLETI's pocket ladies showed susie00's pocket fours to the door in 11th place ($3,889.20). The wait was not a long one for our final ten to become the final nine as just four minutes after the player got themselves situated it was time to break the tables down from two to one. With the blinds at 50K/100K ante 10K MauriceSch would start the five-handed table off with a min-raise folding to Owen "ocrowe" Crowe in the big blind who decided to spam the five button for a raise to 555,555. Back to MauriceSch with 2.4 million and a small ace 5♥A♣ making the shove. Crowe holding pocket tens T♥T♣ and covered the bet and made the call. The flop Q♥ 3♥ 4♦ would put out a few more outs for MauriceSch, but the 9♥ turn and 8♦ river failed to hit the ace or straight and 10th place paid $3,889.20 tonight.

Seat 4: cafecompany (2156238 in chips)
Seat 5: assalbi (1867364 in chips)

Seat 8: Milana Jones (7340795 in chips)
Seat 9: ocrowe (6031056 in chips)

PEQUE ATLETI would start things off with a bang on the very first hand of the final table, doubling up off Milana Jones. Catching the Russian making a huge bluff on the river with the board showing A♠ T♠ 6♠ 9♥ 5♥, PEQUE ATLETI would make the call for his stack holding just top pair A♦2♦, leaping into a decent stack with the 5.8 million chip pot.

Three-way becomes two way

Watch below as Crowe, assalbi, and fishfinder10 all get their chips in the middle preflop with Owen covering both players:

ocrowe: Q♣Q♠
assalbi :K♠K♣
fishfinder10: A♦6♠

fishfinder10 was at the bottom of the pond searching for an ace, and nothing nibbled on the J♠ 2♠ 9♠ 9♣ 2♦ board giving assalbi the side and main pot worth 3.2 million, tossing fishfinder10 out of the lake in ninth place ($5,185.60).

Chip and chair do not go far

After doubling up cafecompany, marcuscollen was standing with just 410,895 chips and blinds up to 65K/130K ante 13K. Four hands later, right after ocrowe found a way to crack the aces of assalbi and stay alive, marcuscollen's shortstack became a no-stack. Holding just 215,895 chips after paying the ante and the big blind, marcuscollen called the button raise from assabli with 6♦Q♠. assabli was not playing the part of button bully flipping up pocket tens T♦T♣. The tens would hold on the A♥ 9♠ 2♣ J♦ 5♠ board and marcuscollen took a seat with fishfinder10 on the sidelines in eighth place ($8,102.50).

Frank Thomas hits one to the warning track

We pick up the action in the 100K/200K ante 20K level with PEQUE ATLETI holding the only eight figure stack and the aggressive Milana Jones a step behind with 8.6 million. Folding to PEQUE ATLETI in the cutoff, the chip leader made a raise to 600,000. Over to FrankThomas8 in the big blind holding 2.5 million chips, the South Side slugger out of Spain shoved holding pocket eights 8♦8♥. Back to PEQUE ATLETI holding a couple of black face cards J♣K♠ good enough to make the call. Unfortunately for the former major league baseball MVP and home run champ, a king on the flop 5♣ K♥ 2♦ 5♥ 6♦ would sink his chances at a title tonight finishing in seventh place ($14,584.50).

Break for no one

With six players coming out of the tenth hour break, one would get a rude and quick welcome back to the table. The blinds still at 100K/200K ante 20K and Milana Jones in the mist of taking down four hands in a row would find pocket nines 9♥9♠ good enough to shove over the top of the min-raise from mjw006. Pocket queens Q♣Q♥ for mjw006 got his money in very good as the flop K♥ T♥ 9♦ came out very bad. Left with a gutshot draw and two queens, mjw006 found neither on the 4♣ turn and 8♠ river to finish the tournament in sixth place ($21,066.50).

No time for company

Just three hands later shortstacked cafecompany attempted to take a small raise from ocrowe with a shove for 1.51 million. ocrowe had chips to spare and a nice big ace to call with Q♦A♥ to create a 3.3 million chip pot. cafecompany stuck with hoping for a blue plate suckout special holding A♦7♠. Crowe's queen was too much as the board J♠ 3♣ 3♠ 6♦ T♠ failed to catch on to cafecompany's hand, finishing the night in fifth place ($27,548.50).

Chip leader to out

PEQUE ATLETI ran into a bunch of problems over the 125K/250K ante 25K blind level and going into the 150K/300K ante 30K level those issues became a game-ender. ocrowe keeping up the aggression as the new far-and-away chip leader with over 17 million chips, min-raised on the button to 600,000. PEQUE ATLETI looking for something to go right, shoved from the small blind for 2.3 million holding Q♣K♣. Back to Crowe with pocket sevens 7♠7♣ and an easy decision to make the call, he would do so and dodge the A♥ 4♣ 8♦ 8♥ 4♦ board to claim the five million chip pot and knock out PEQUE ATLETI in fourth place ($37,271.50).

It's the river card that matters

A short while later with a severe stack depletion, Milana Jones would find that shortstack all-in preflop against Crowe and flopped top pair K♠8♣ on the 5♠ Q♥ K♥ board to take the lead over Crowe's ace A♣4♦. Watch the video below to see if the aggressive Russian would find six million chips or third place on the river:

The turned T♥ gave Owen more outs to a straight, and the J♠ completed broadway, as Milana Jones played a tough game taking home $53,476.50 in third place.

Owen "ocrowe" Crowe takes the title

Most of our Sunday Warm-up heads up battles consist of one side beating down the other quickly, or a huge flip and settling the last two places fairly quickly and efficiently. This time there would be a little drama as accomplished live pro from Canada with $1.6 million in tournament winnings including a final appearance at this year's World Series of Poker would take a massive chip lead (26.6 million to 5.8 million) into heads-up play.

But, assalbi was not going to lay down and grabbed a massive 19.4 million chip pot with a bad beat on the river holding 8♦A♥ to Crowe's A♠T♥, as the board spiked a straight 5♠ 7♥ 4♣ 5♣ 6♣ briefly giving assalbi the chip lead.

Crowe fought back and with the blinds still at 150K/300K ante 30K the hand of the tournament went down. Check out the results of the 26.9 million chip pot below:

assalbi: J♥A♦
ocrowe: Q♣A♣

All-in preflop this time the dominating ace would make it through the K♥ 9♦ 5♥ 7♠ 6♥ board giving Crowe the huge pot and leaving assalbi with just 5.4 million chips.

Crowe would lean heavily on that shortstack taking down seven of the last eight hands using a bit of a suck out with 9♥6♣ besting assalbi's Q♦9♠ flopping two pair on the 7♠ 9♦ 6♠ 4♥ 4♠ board to claim this week's Sunday Warm-up title and $101,768.21!
