Sunday Warm-Up: Chaz D 87 up top for the weekly title, Koon near miss in fourth
As Kristin Bihr reported a few weeks ago, Jason Koon crushed 2012 for over a half million dollars on the live poker circuit along with several online victories here at PokerStars. One of those victory happen in this very tournament just three weeks ago as Koon claimed $109,869.77 after winning the $500,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up. Tonight, he was back and with a commanding chip lead at the final table and looking to pull off the ultra rare second Sunday Warm-Up title. But, he would be shot down by aces, aces, and more aces as Chaz D 87 would claim the top prize of $88,979.86 tonight after a three-way split of the money.
Watching the final two tables come together tonight it was a lesson on how quickly riches move across the table and onto the rail for the less fortunate. In a span of three hands across the tripod of action, the field of 21 players would melt into just 15 left as antesvante (Sweden), JaksOnCrack (Canada), and jkcfc (United Kingdom) all collected $1,722.78 in 19th through 21st place and IceKush7 (United Kingdom), hitthehole (United Kingdom), and Theo7171 (Canada) received $2,026.80 in 16th through 18th place.
A couple of those players that have big tournament success here at PokerStars as antesvante scored $12K during a SCOOP 2011 Event #28 final table and hitthehole has been to the Sunday Warm-Up final table a few times, last appearing in March last year taking home $8K in ninth place
Supernova jakoon1985 was keeping the table balancer on its toes with several quick eliminations including a double knockout of chizzeritor and Hattenaf when jakoon1985 picked up pocket kings K♠K♦. All-in preflop with the blinds at 40K/80K ante 8K, chizzeritor's big slick A♣K♥ and Hattenaf's 7♥A♥ were unable to find an ace on the 2♣ 3♥ T♦ Q♣ 9♣ board as jakoon1985 picked up the 7.3 million chip pot stretching the chip leading stack to over nine million as chizzeritor (12th place, $4,053.60) and Hattenaf (13th place, $3,040.20) were left to try again next week.
Down to the final table bubble it was only fitting to find jakoon1985 three-betting the min-raise from Belabacsi's button raise. Belabacsi sought to take down the bullying jakoon1985 with a four-bet shove for 2.5 million holding A♠9♥. Unfortunately, jakoon1985 held the goods with a dominating J♣A♣. No scare on the 4♥ 8♠ 5♥ Q♣ 5♠ board and the SCOOP 2010 Event #15-H champ Belabacsi was picking up $4,053.60 in tenth place as the final table formed up below:
Seat 1: nederen_dk (1587350 in chips)
Seat 2: jakoon1985 (11780019 in chips)
Seat 3: glhf99 (4179930 in chips)
Seat 4: antirigik (3099650 in chips)
Seat 5: szusza84 (3418053 in chips)
Seat 6: bluffDany (1242238 in chips)
Seat 7: shipopatamus (4177924 in chips)
Seat 8: Chaz D 87 (1642312 in chips)
Seat 9: GiegelGagel (2652524 in chips)
The first break would hit early at the final table and tonight's Team Online host, Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome was getting her social media message out, and reminded the player to hit their favorite site to come pull up the Sunday Warm-Up final table action:
talonchick: "Four minutes to let all your fans know you are at the FT... tweet tweet facebook facebook"
jakoon partying like its 1985
Back from the break, jakoon1985 wanted to stretch the lead a bit and took down the first three pots upon the return. With the blinds at 50K/100K ante 10K jakoon1985 would open min-raise from the cutoff as bluffDany holding just over a million in the big blind shoved while holding big slick A♠K♦. No need to back down with pocket tens T♥T♦ as jakoon1985 made the call and won the flip J♦ 7♥ 3♦ 3♣ 2♥. The 2.2 million chip pot would push jakoon1985's stack over eight figures as bluffDany claimed ninth place ($5,404.80).
Some shortstacks double, glhf99 does not
As the blinds moved up to 65K/130K, shipopatamus, GiegelGagel, and nederen_dk all found a double-up to stay alive in the hunt for tonight's title. GiegelGagel went looking for more and opened with a min-raise as nederen_dk on the immediate left three-bet to 498,765. Folded to glhf99 in the big blind holding two million chips and pocket jacks J♠J♣ deciding to shove. GiegelGagel was out, but nederen_dk was not as the Dane quickly called with pocket queens Q♥Q♦. Once again the favorite floated through the board untouched 4♦ 9♥ 2♥ A♠ 8♣ as glhf99 made $8,445.00 for a little more than nine hours of work tonight.
nederen_dk was likely stating some variation of HOLD! in a language other than English (which is allowed of course away from the virtual felt) as this 2.7 million chip all-in preflop hand transpired:
shipopatamus showed a suited big slick A♦K♦ as nederen_dk held jacks J♠J♦. The flop looked plenty safe 6♠3♦T♣ but the turn brought a second diamond 7♦ to the board. Nut flush draw and two overs would not get there for shipopatamus as a safe 9♣ landed on the river to end the game in seventh place earning $15,201.00. A good seven days for shipopatamus who also final tabled the $215 Sunday weekly turbo last week earning $2.2K
Leads lost, Chaz gains
Moving up to the six figure blinds 100K/200K ante 20K, jakoon1985 would maintain the only eight figure stack as the rest of the table averaged around four to five million with the exception of szusza84 trying to hide under a micro-stack of under five hundred thousand. Then, Chaz D 87 challenged the chip leader with a min-raise that jakoon1985 jumped all over on by shoving instead of a polite three-bet. Chaz D 87 snap-called with aces and took down the 12.1 million chip pot and the chip lead with it.
The very next hand with szusza84 in the small blind with only 445,954 left after paying the blinds, the short-stack would get in the middle of Chaz D 87 and jakoon1985 attacking each other again. After the three-bet preflop, both players checked down the T♦ 9♠ 3♦ 7♥ Q♠ board until the river as Chaz D87 put a million into the pot. jakoon1985 took the hint and folded. As expected, Chaz D 87 hit the queen on the river Q♥A♣ and szusza84 showed the losing pair of treys K♦3♥ to claim $21,957.00 in sixth place.

"They just kept having aces jakoon1985"
Five hands later, the deflated jakoon1985 down to just 1.02 million thanks to running into aces twice found a decent ace 9♣A♣ on the button and shoved. Newly bolstered antiriglk made the call from the small blind holding pocket treys 3♥3♦. The Team Online member consoled the once runaway chip leader, and fourth place finisher jakoon1985 as the board ran K♦ T♦ 2♥ K♣ 6♥ for the threes as Jason "jakoon1985" Koon picked up $38,847.00 in fourth place. Quite the run for the past month as Koon claimed this tournament just three weeks ago for $109K falling just short of repeat tonight.
Not even a hand would go off as our remaining three were eager to strike a deal. Adrienne was quick to assist such plans as antiriglk, GiegelGagel, and Chaz D 87 would take their cuts in under five minutes with minimal banter hitting the deal below (leaving $10,000.00 for the champ):
Chaz D 87: $78,979.86
Right time, wrong cards
After the deal Chaz D 87 would make a strong push to further the chip lead as antiriglk hovered around eight million and GiegelGagel holding 9.3 million. As the blinds moved up to 125K/250K ante GiegelGagel and antiriglk decided to get their chips together to take on Chaz D 87 for the deal in the hand below:
antiriglk would shove from the button instead of raising as GiegelGagel calmly called from the big blind with pocket nines 9♣9♠. Hoping for folds or two live cards, antiriglk got neither after showing Q♥9♦. The 7♠ 7♦ T♣ K♠ 4♠ board was absent of ladies as antiriglk claimed the $74,403.73 from the deal in third place.
In for the long haul, except not really
GiegelGagel would start off heads-up play with 17.6 million to Chaz D 87's 16.1 million and blinds at a comfortable 125K/250K ante 25K. Figuring a long fight for the extra $10,000.00 and the Sunday Warm-Up title, this scribe decided to shore up a good caffeine base with an energy drink not named Red Bull.
Two minutes into heads-up play, GiegelGagel would three-bet a min-raise as Chaz D 87 made the call to see a 8♥J♣9♥ flop. Both checked as the board added a 4♦ to which both checked again. T♦ on the river woke GiegelGagel up as the chip leader bet two million. Chaz D 87 joined the party with a shove for 13.1 million. This writer already regretting that taurine-infused liquid, it looked like it could end right here as GiegelGagel made the call with the rivered straight A♥Q♦. However, Chaz D 87 flipped up a king-high straight Q♥K♠ hauling in the 29.5 million chip pot leaving GiegelGagel with only 4.2 million.
Five hands later after one double up for GiegelGagel, Chaz D 87 would min-raise as GiegelGagel made the call from the big blind to see a couple of eights come out on the flop 8♣K♠8♦. Chaz D 87 led for 500,000 as GiegelGagel bumped it up to 1.5 million. Chaz D 87 made the call as both checked on the 5♠ turn. 9♣ on the river got GiegelGagel to commit the remaining 4.73 million as Chaz D 87 snap called with the flopped trips 8♠Q♠. GiegelGagel once again held a decent hand, this time top pair K♣T♣, but not good enough as Chaz D 87 claimed victory in tonight's Sunday Warm-up for $88,979.86!
