Sunday Warm-Up: gppsromon bullies table for the $80K victory

While the World Series of Poker's Main Event action heats up, the PokerStars Sunday Majors still cranked out big winners this weekend. Tonight's $500,000 Sunday Warm-Up final table featured a bullying tag team of Romania's oblionita and Russia's gppsromon knocking out every single player from the tournament. After taking care of the other seven, gppsromon would make the final elimination, taking down oblionita heads-up for the $80,422.00 victory.

Most of the players with Red Spades next to their name are trying to earn that Main Event bracelet but one of them managed to invest $215 into this tournament and turn a small profit. Taking advantage of the shorter 2,545 player field, Team PokerStars Pro Martin "AABenjaminAA" Hruby would take a cash this evening for $636.25 after finishing in 141st place.

At the ninth hourly break just 14 players remained on track for the $80,422.00 first place prize including ATHIED87 who nailed a Sunday Million win for $188K in June was looking today to add another Sunday Majors title.

Within 15 minutes of their return fredbap ($3,181.25), leopoldzaar ($2,545.00), and WhEADa ($2,545.00) would take a seat on the rail in 12th through 14th place. With 11 players remaining it would be an instant change into the final table thanks to a double knockout by oblionita. With the blind at 65K/130K ante 13K ShiFtYFiNGeR would lead off for a min-raise as oblionita three-bet to 1.56 million from the button. Zuckerz with 485,276 chips left in the big blind called all-in as did ShiFtYFiNGeR for 1.2 million holding pocket kings K♥K♦. The kings dominated oblionita's Q♥K♠ and Zuckerz J♠T♠ but a board nearly full of spades 2♠ 3♠ 7♠ J♣ 5♠ would throw the big 3.7 million chip pot at oblionita's king-high flush and starting up the final table below:

Seat 1: guth888 (937709 in chips)
Seat 2: hamanof (3449254 in chips)
Seat 3: senger141 (4101919 in chips)
Seat 4: jezz81 (1219831 in chips)
Seat 5: oblionita (5288722 in chips)
Seat 6: ATHIED87 (2221160 in chips)
Seat 7: gppsromon (4439533 in chips)
Seat 8: wardy912 (2327876 in chips)
Seat 9: ResumeIgnore (1463996 in chips)

Hands off the chips

As the blinds moved up to 80K/160K ante 16K hamanof on the button holding 2.59 million would shove over the top of a min-raise by gppsromon. Owning pocket queens Q♥Q♦ gppsromon covered and quickly called to face off against hamanof's A♠3♠. A severe lack of spades on the 6♥ 9♥ 3♦ Q♣ K♦ board would send hamanof $4,326.50 in ninth place.

gppsromon sends another one home

Further into the 80K/160K ante 16K level gppsromon holding the chip lead would open shove for 8.2 million from the cutoff. wardy912 with a little more than a million chips and a decent hand A♣Q♠ called from the button. gppsromon's 8♦A♦ was dominated except for the fact that Russian held two more diamonds than wardy912. Those two diamonds would meet up with three more on the flop 5♦ 4♦ 7♦ 4♥ T♠ to knock out wardy912 in eighth place ($7,380.50).

ATHIED87 denied second Sunday Major title

As mentioned ATHIED87 was trying to add a Sunday Warm-Up title to the Sunday Million win in June. Just three hands after wardy912 was knocked out, ATHIED87 tried open shoving for 1.1 million getting everyone on the table to fold except oblionita in the big blind who called with K♥Q♠. ATHIED87 would need some help with the suited connector 7♠8♠ and the T♠ A♣ 2♣ 4♥ J♥ board simply would not help ending ATHIED87's run in seventh place ($11,961.50).

Two player race?

Up to this point the final table seemed like a two player dash for title. gppsromon with the chip lead holding over 10 million chips, and oblionita with a little under eight million. As the blinds moved up to 100K/200K ante 20K and five hands after ATHIED87's exit, jezz81 would shove 1.68 million with pocket tens T♦T♣ from the big blind over oblionita's opening raise to 650,000. oblionita made the call with J♣K♠ promptly finding a king in the middle of the 2♥ 2♦ K♦ 4♥ 6♣ board to take in the 3.5 million chip pot ending jezz81's night in sixth place ($17,051.50).

Permanently ignored

ResumeIgnore finally got the message that the UK player's presence was no longer needed at the table as oblionita delivered it in the hand below:

Chalk up another knockout for oblionita after three-betting senger141, the Romanian got ResumeIgnore to call off 363,996 chips from the big blind holding K♦7♥. oblionita's Q♣K♥ had things well under control as the A♣ 3♠ 5♦ K♣ A♦ board complied with a clean win as ResumeIgnore would not be forgotten in fifth place ($22,141.50).

Leader of the pride

Shortly after the five minute break the remaining four players took a 10 minute extra pause to attempt to divvy up the remaining prizepool funds. Despite their best attempts, no deal was made. The blinds remained at 100K/200K ante 20K as oblionita assumed the chip lead after the break and went on the prowl for more. senger141 opened from the button for a min-raise as oblionita three-bet to 1.6 million. Back to senger141 with a suited connector 9♠8♠ the German shoved for 2.5 million as oblionita promptly called holding pocket tens T♠T♥. Despite the nine in the door 9♣ 7♦ K♣ 5♦ 2♣ senger141 would gain $29,771.41 after finishing in fourth place.

gppsromon wakes up

After watching oblionita do all the dirty work gppsromon decided to jump back into play in a big way after collecting 14 million chips and taking over the chip lead. But, gppsromon did not stop there as the blinds moved up to 125K/250K ante 25K gppsromon min-raised from the button as guth888 shove from the small blind for 5.11 million chips. Holding a decent ace A♦J♦ gppsromon made the call and enjoyed the view as guth888 flipped up 2♦A♣. The jack kicker was enough to ship the 10.5 million chip pot after a nine filled T♠ 4♥ 9♥ 9♦ 9♠ board knocked out guth888 in third place ($42,756.00). guth888 was able to improve on a sixth place finish in Sunday Million last year after a strange six-way chop earned the German $84K.

Assurance that oblionita or gppsromon would make the final elimination

They did it all today. Either oblionita or gppsromon knocked every player at the final table tonight and now they were all ready to go for an epic Sunday Warm-Up heads-up battle! No, that did not happen, partially due to gppsromon starting off with a 19.9 million to 5.5 million chip lead and this nifty river card shown below after the five hand heads-up "battle":

oblionita found a good spot, getting all in preflop with big slick A♠K♣ to gppsromon's A♦5♦. But, the 11.2 million chip pot and the Sunday Warm-Up title would slide to gppsromon after a dirty five showed up on the river T♥ 9♠ 9♦ 7♥ 5♠ to earn gppsromon $80,422.00 for the win!
