Sunday Warm-Up: Konstantinos "arxigos" Nanos add another major win and $112K
Time and time again players who make the final table and win the Sunday Majors, such as tonight's $500,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up, as well as the COOP tournament series, do so because they like money and are good at playing poker. Case in point, this week's champ Konstantinos "arxigos" Nanos has a TCOOP victory for $55K, several SCOOP and WCOOP final tables, and if the online accolades are not enough a final table in the EPT Vienna main event back in 2010.
2013 SCOOP Event #20-H final tablist A.Saout would fail to add a Sunday Major final table to the list after falling in 43rd place ($1,463.70). Shortly after, as the tournament clock turned to eight hours of play, only four tables of nine players remained with pasty71 holding the chip lead. The UK's pasty71 has been to the final table before taking seventh place for $15K during Jason "jakoon1985" Koon's Sunday Warm-Up victory back in November 2012.
45 minutes later the numbers of tables would be cut in half as pasty71 continued to hold the chip lead with 4.6 million with an average of nearly two million chips and blinds at 30K/60K ante 6K. By the time the tables broke for the five minute intermission only 14 players remained as 7Be/\eC7 took over the chip lead with five million chips, holding 300K more than pasty71. 7Be/\eC7, a SCOOP final tablist in last year's Event #27-H earning $18,240 for fourth place during Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick's victory.
Pass_72 would double up HeroCall123 after the latter flopped a set and Pass_72 could not throw down the flopped top pair for a 3.2 million chip pot. On the next hand the former Super Tuesday winner Pass_72 would claim $3,213.00 in 13th place after 20 minutes into the ninth hour of play.
Plosich's run up from a shortstack would be stopped by 7Be/\eC7 as the chip leader showed pocket sevens were superior to Plosich's sixes as the Russian exited in 12th place ($4,284.00). immortalite3 would follow shortly in 11th place ($4,284.00) allowing 7Be/\eC7 to increase the chip holdings after another elimination and start hand-for-hand play.
After ten minutes it looked as though we would have a double elimination on the final table bubble. vizquel17 holding pocket queens with XXDH1983 all-in with sevens and a seven on the river would ship 4.2 million chips to the German. nickym998 was also all-in with king-jack K♥J♦ and behind against HeroCall123's ace-nine A♣9♣. However a jack on the flop and a missed flush draw for HeroCall123 7♣ 6♦ J♣ 5♠ T♦ would become a lucrative hold a few hands later.
With the blinds up to 80K/160K ante 16K arxigos would raise to 336,00 from the cutoff as vizquel17 reeling from the bad beat, shoved for 748,036 in the small blind holding A♥Q♦. arxigos would make the call with pocket threes 3♦3♥ and once again vizquel17 would feel the sting of a two-outer on the river as an ace would flop but a three on the river A♠ 7♣ 8♠ J♦ 3♣ opened up the final table below:
Seat 1: pasty71 (1487147 in chips)
Seat 2: Mix0 Mi (3794532 in chips)
Seat 3: HeroCall123 (3513567 in chips)
Seat 4: nickym998 (2002612 in chips)
Seat 5: vicwellsuk (1972880 in chips)
Seat 6: arxigos (5719331 in chips)
Seat 7: LeBroHbKA (4285467 in chips)
Seat 8: 7Be/\eC7 (8855268 in chips)
Seat 9: XXDH1983 (4069196 in chips)
Out of the mix
Just six minutes into the final table Mix0 Mi would receive earnings from nearly ten hours of play after a bit of a cooler. With the blinds holding at 80K/160K ante 16K Mix0 Mi would raise to 333,333 from the cutoff as vicwellsuk made the call in the big blind as both seemed to like the king-high K♠3♥7♦ flop. vicwellsuk led out for 890,666 as Mix0 Mi holding K♦T♥ shoved for 3.06 million. vicwellsuk made the call with the higher kicker K♣J♥ and closed out the hand with the turned J♦ two pair sending $5,712.00 and ninth place to Mix0 Mi.
LeBroHbKA takes the table down to seven
Shortly after the blinds moved up to 100K/200K ante 20K LeBroHbKA would lead off with a min-raise from UTG as it folded around to a shortstacked nickym998 who has been playing here at PokerStars for a long time making a Sunday Million final table way back in 2007. nickym998 would shove for 766,612 chips holding 6♦6♠. No need to be priced in with A♦Q♣, LeBroHbKA called and was rewarded with an ace on the flop 8♦ 9♣ A♥ 4♦ K♦ sending nickym998 off in eighth place ($8,925.00).
As mentioned up above pasty71 was here today trying to improve on a seventh place finish during the last visit to the Sunday Warm-Up final table. Unfortunately, that would not happen today as the blinds moved up to 125K/250K ante 25K vicwellsuk would raise to 750,000 as arxigos three-bet all-in to 2.85 million. Folded around to pasty71 in the small blind with pocket jacks J♠J♦ 2.24 million behind to call. vicwellsuk decided not to go for the double elimination as arxigos flipped up big slick A♥K♠. A safe flop turned quickly into 2♠ T♠ 7♦ A♣ K♥ a rout for arxigos as pasty71 claimed seventh place ($16,065.00) once again.
arxigos takes over
In a span of seven hands arxigos would put a head lock on this tournament. Watch below for the 12.4 million chip battle between arxigos and LeBroHbKA:
Started ahead and ended ahead as arxigos' queens Q♠Q♦ defeated LeBroHbKA's jacks J♥J♠ earning the 12.4 million chip pot as LeBroHbKA earned $23,205.00 in sixth place.
Hero to the end
The tournament would speed dramatically from this point as two hands later fifth place would be named. With the blinds still at 125K/250K ante 25K HeroCall123 would apply pressure by open shoving 4.23 million from the small blind as vicwellsuk had a big decision from the big blind. Holding A♦6♥ and 1.81 million chips vicwellsuk made the call facing HeroCall123's K♥T♦. The ace would not get through the five card 3♠ 2♥ J♠ T♣ 3♥ board however as vicwellsuk took away $30,345.00 in fifth place.
Sitting out has its advantages
Four hands later as XXDH1983 seemed to have a connection problem and has been sitting out for the past five minutes, gained a few rungs on the prize board. The blinds would move up to 150K/300K ante 30K as HeroCall123 tried again to force the action from the small blind by pushing for six million with pocket jacks J♥J♦. This time there was no shortstack but the chip leader arxigos with 22.4 million chips making the call with pocket sevens 7♥7♦. arxigos could only type "ul" in the chat box as the seven appeared in the door 7♠ 3♠ 4♥ 6♣ 8♠ widening arxigos' lead and sending $41,055.00 to HeroCall123 in fourth place.
Vacant but rich
With the way arxigos was ripping through the final table it might have been for the better as XXDH1983 would be all-in from sitting out as artxigos received the last of the free chips and XXDH1983 collected $58,905.00 in third place.
Champion once again
The TCOOP champ would do it again. Taking over this tournament with six players left and demolishing the field in less than 12 minutes. Which is odd because heads-up play took longer than it did to eliminate the last four players combined. 7Be/\eC7 tried to keep up by doubling up a few times as a shortstack but could never get on top.
Finally after seven minutes of play with arxigos holding a 28.4 million to 7.2 million chip lead the two would shove their chips into the middle for the last time. Watch below as arxigos claims another major title here at PokerStars:
7Be/\eC7's T♥9♣ found some straight outs on the flop, but arxigos' A♠Q♥ took home the pot with the flopped two pair 8♣ Q♠ A♣ 6♣ 5♠ winning this week's Sunday Warm-Up and $112,098.00!
