Sunday Warm-Up: only4joke has the last laugh, scores $83k

Only4joke may have entered this final table as the chip leader, but by the time play turned three-handed, he had fallen on the short stack. As they attempted to negotiate a three-way chop, only4joke was more than willing to accept a $57k payday in exchange for closing the deal, but big stack aposimbiesi was looking for much more than his opponents were willing to give up. When negotiations failed and action resumed, fortunes reversed and only4joke kicked it into another gear as he pushed aposimbiesi out of a massive pot with a check-raise/four-bet on the flop. Only4joke reassumed the chip lead and after a short battle with jasven06, he joined the ranks of Sunday Warm-Up champions and banked an $83,343.58 score.

2,801 players bought in to this week's Sunday Warm-Up, creating a $560,200.00 prize pool 414 places were paid with first place set to earn $88,232.17. Red Spades Fatima De Melo, Christophe De Meulder, Vicky Coren, and Marc-Andre "FrenchDawg" Ladouceur joined the field, but Team Online's Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen (156th) was the only one that finished in the money.

Blinds were up to 50,000/100,000 with ten players remaining. The action folded to short stack buckguy2200 on the button and he made an easy shove for 913,058 with Q♥Q♦. Shiiiken called with A♠6♠ in the big blind and snapped off buckguy2200's pocket queens when an ace hit the flop. Buckguy2200 didn't pull off a two-outer on the A♦T♣[2]5♠J♥ board and went out one spot short of the final table.

aposimbiesi KOs two

Yvydendyvy made the final table with less than eight big blinds and moved in for his last 635,000 with K♠Q♣. Aposimbiesi reshoved from the button with A♣J♦ and both blinds folded. Aposimbiesi turned a wheel on the 5♣2♠2♦3♦3♣ board, ending yvydendyvy's run in ninth place ($4,761.70).

Moments later, aposimbiesi opened for a min-raise to 260,000 from UTG and AceHighTwice shoved for 608,000 from the small blind. Aposimbiesi snap-called, his K♦K♥ well ahead of A♦T♦. AceHighTwice didn't get any help on the 8♣7♦4♣9♠8♦ board and went out in eighth place ($7,573.90).

Rasdam hits the rail, shiiiken close behind

With the blinds still at 60,000/130,000, T3G3S opened for 260,000 and Rasdam called from the small blind. Rasdam moved in for his remaining 754,755 on the A♠K♥3♦ flop and T3G3S called, his A♦T♥ dominating Rasdam's A♣6♣. Rasdam needed to pair his kicker on the turn or river, but the 8♦ and the 5♦ fell instead, sending him to the rail in seventh place ($13,164.70).

Two hands later, only4joke made it 260,000 to go from UTG, aposimbiesi flat-called from UTG+1 and shiiiken put the squeeze on, moving all-in for 1.45 million from the big blind. Only4joke released his hand and aposimbiesi called with pocket fours. Shiiiken was in a race situation with A♠9♣, but the tide quickly turned when the flop fell Q♥5♠4♣, making aposimbiesi bottom set. Shiiiken was drawing dead when the T♠ turned and he departed in sixth place ($18,766.70).

aposimbiesi flushes T3G3S

7ei7ka got a reprieve when his K♦8♦ turned a flush against only4joke's A♥Q♥, good for a double-up to 3.3 million. Only a few hands later, he picked up A♠K♠ and three-bet shoved, but initial raiser jasven06 called with Q♠Q♣. Jasven06's queens rivered a full house and 7ei7ka had to settle for fifth place ($24,368.70).

Down to his last 13 big blinds, T3G3S three-bet shoved from the big blind with A♠7♥, but aposimbiesi had him dominated with A♣K♣. Aposimbiesi turned the nut flush on the 9♥6♣3♣5♣9♣ board and T3G3S hit the rail in fourth place, good for $32,211.50.

It costs a lot to win and even more to lose

When three-handed play commenced, aposimbiesi was the chip leader with 13.8 million, jasven06 was second with 8.4 million and only4joke was the short stack with 5.8 million. They agreed to pause play and take a look at some ICM numbers, but aposimbiesi refused to accept anything less than $80k, about $11.5k more than his ICM share. Although only4joke and jasven06 offered up $2k apiece from their shares, it wasn't enough to satisfy aposimbiesi. With negotiations an an impasse, action resumed.

Goes to show you don't ever know

Aposimbiesi soon fell to the back of the pack. He called jasven06's 2.98 million four-bet pre flop, only to check-fold to his 4.76 million shove on the 6♥3♠2♥ flop. Down to 5.43 million in chips, aposimbiesi called only4joke's small blind min-raise and saw a K♠6♣5♣ flop. Only4joke checked, aposimbiesi bet 421,400 and only4joke raised to 1,000,000. Aposimbiesi three-bet to 1,578,600, only4joke shoved and aposimbiesi gave up his hand, saint his last 3.44 million.

With the blinds up to 100,000/200,000, aposimbiesi opened for a button min-raise and jasven06 shoved for 9.03 million from the small blind. Aposimbiesi called with A♦T♣, but was in terrible shape against jasven06's A♠K♠. Jasven06's hand held up on the A♥Q♣4♥6♠5♥ board and aposimbiesi went out in third place, earning $47,056.80 (roughly $21,000 less than the ICM deal he turned down).

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 5: only4joke (16,755,032 in chips)
Seat 9: jasven06 (11,254,968 in chips)

On the second hand of heads-up play, only4joke and jasven06 agreed to take another run at making a deal. This time, they quickly came to terms on an ICM chop that guaranteed only4joke $73,343.58 and jasven06 $70,712.09. With $10,000 still in play for the winner, cards went back in the air.

Only4joke steadily chipped up to 22.7 million before jasven06 scored a double-up, his J♦T♦ flopping a jack against only4joke's pocket threes. Jasven06 moved up to 11.1 million, but sank back to 7.35 million when fireworks went off again. Only4joke min-raised to 600,000 on the button and jasven06 shoved with J♦7♣. Only4joke called with A♣8♣ and his ace-high held up on the 6♥5♦4♦K♦Q♥ board to lock up the win.

Congratulations to Malta's only4joke, this week's Sunday Warm-Up champion! He banked $83,343.58 while runner-up jasven06 earned $70,712.09.
