Sunday Warm-Up: Tbn220 leaves no doubts winning $76K
The type of player who likes to join into the Sunday Majors for the first hand of the tournament may have received a bonus for their punctuality (or at least strengthen their chances). As part of the December-long Christmas Calendar promotion, the $425,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up gave away eleven full tables worth of Sunday Million tickets during the first hour. And not just any Sunday Million buy-in, but one for the $5,000,000 guarantee slated for December 27th with a minimum of $500,000 going out to the winner.
Beats the two-for-one limes special I got at the grocery store.
After entering the final table as the massive chip leader and lengthy heads-up match, Tbn220 would finally put away kcruse11 and earned $76,346.00 for the victory.
Read on below for Tbn220's road to the Sunday Major win.
Fast-forwarding eight hours of play after all the free Sunday Million tickets made their way to the lucky runners, the field of 2,416 would be left with only 13.
Immediately after the ninth hourly break, Tbn220 and aniceboy would flip for the temporary chiplead as aniceboy's ace-jack failed to overtake pocket fours as Tbn220 collected the four million chip pot with blinds at 50K/100K ante 10K. Tbn220 would eventually take aniceboy's (13th place - $2,464.32) scraps and [BO$$]BUDDAH's (12th place - $3,140.80) chips after finding aces thus solidifying the run towards the title.
After mczhang (11th place - $3,140.80) ran into T-Recz's aces, Tbn220 made sure one massive stack would be entering the final table in style. With the blinds still at 50K/100K ante 10K MD IACONI would shove a little less than four BBs as Tbn220 holding over seven million in chips was happy to gamble with pocket deuces 2♥2♦. MD IACONI's J♦A♦ flopped a flush draw, but the deuces found a set and filled up by the turn T♦ 7♦ 2♠ 7♥ A♠ to start up the final table below:
Seat 1: Tbn220 (7973433 in chips)
Seat 2: benatias (2669894 in chips)
Seat 3: Bounatirou (1271546 in chips)
Seat 4: T-Recz (2201472 in chips)
Seat 5: Ballage87 (2556573 in chips)
Seat 6: kcruse11 (1574214 in chips)
Seat 7: trionojnika (1874294 in chips)
Seat 8: Malaka$tyle (1969246 in chips)
Seat 9: Creatiff111 (2069328 in chips)
Sometimes a gambler goes on a run knowing they could hit on 19 and a deuce would make its way down to beat the dealer's 20. Eight minutes into the final table with the blinds moving up to 65K/130K ante 13K trionojnika would open shove from the cutoff for 1.5 million. Tbn220 waited patiently in the big blind with big slick K♣A♦ to make the call. Everything to this point continued to flow in Tbn220's direction as trionojnika's treys 3♥3♣ would fall to a turned ace 4♣ Q♦ 4♠ A♠ 7♣ earning $4,107.20 for ninth place.
Eight hands later Malaka$tyle tried the same tactic with the same result. Still in the same blind level Malaka$tyle shoved two million from the button with K♦Q♦ as Tbn220 once again was ready to strike holding queens Q♠Q♥ in the big blind. The A♥ 2♠ A♦ A♠ 7♥ board refused to supply a king for Malaka$tyle collecting $7,006.40 in eighth place.
Bounatirou tried a little humor after the elimination asking for an even chop. But, with Tbn220's 12 million chip stack and no one over three million, the chipleader's silence meant some leveling of the stacks would be necessary first.
The attempt at humor did not deter Tbn220's destructive way at this final table as Bounatirou's stack would be in jeopardy next. Still in the 65K/130K ante 13K blind level Tbn220 would raise enough from the button to put Bounatirou all in from the big blind. Holding pocket nines 9♠9♥ Bounatirou made the call facing the chipleader's Q♦6♦. And once again Tbn220 could do no wrong notching a flush 3♦ J♣ 5♣ 2♦ 8♦ eliminating Bounatirou in seventh place ($11,838.40).
Three hands later Tbn220 finally took a breather and let the other players grab some of the spotlight.
Ballage87 was able to operate under Tbn220's carnage grabbing 4.7 million chips. Having the second largest stack was useful for this three-way preflop all-in. T-Recz would shove with K♥T♥, Ballage87 followed holding A♦T♠, and kcruse11 looked the best after calling all-in with jacks J♦J♠. The jacks would safely cross the 6♥ 3♦ Q♠ 9♠ 8♥ board as T-Recz was excused from the table in sixth place ($16,670.40) as Ballage87's stack would take a sizable hit.
Ballage87's brief showing as second place in the chip counts took a tumble after that loss. A few minutes later holding 1.3 million chips as the blinds moved up to 100K/200K ante 20K, Ballage87 would go all-in holding K♣T♦. Creatiff111 pounced on the shortstack with Q♠A♥ taking away three million chips after the 6♣ 7♣ 6♥ 7♠ 3♥ board. A second big final table for Ballage87 this year after placing seventh in SCOOP 2015's Event #17-M (earning $12K), Ballage87 took away $21,502.40 for a slightly better result in fifth place.
Seven hands later the remaining players got reintroduced to their chipleader. Tbn220 wanted the attention back and a seven million chip pot held that sort of weight. After leading off with a raise, Tbn220 faced a 3.3 million chip shove from benatias. J♦A♦ was plenty to make the call, but slightly underequipped against benatias' jacks J♣J♠. No worries, the 2♠ 4♦ T♠ 5♥ 3♦ board brought a wheel, taking down benatias in fourth place ($28,267.20).
Three-handed play would last awhile, going through the tenth hourly break. With the blinds moving up to 125K/250K ante 25K and one hand after kcruse11 managed to make Tbn220 seem mortal after doubling off the chipleader, we would have heads-up play. Creatiff111 would min-raise from the small blind as Tbn220 called. After the 5♠3♦J♠ flop the two traded bets until all of Creatiff111's chips were in the middle. Top pair for Creatiff111 Q♥J♥ would not be able to overcome Tbn220's slowplayed kings K♦K♣. Moments later, when the T♣ and 9♦ fell on the turn and river, Creatiff111 would collect $41,072.00 in third place. Like benatias, Creatiff111 also almost won some -COOP jewelry this year as the runner-up of WCOOP 2015's Event #43.
Despite doubling up kcruse11, Tbn220 would bring a big 15.3 million to 8.7 million chip lead to determine who would be going away with the $76,346.00 up top.
Kcruse11 would spend the next 40 minutes tiptoeing like the lead ballerina in Swan Lake. Gracefully moving around the pure heft of Tbn220 stack to get within three million chips 13.3 million to 10.3 million at the 11th hourly break.
Despite the feather steps and heel turns, Tbn220 would claim the title on the second hand back. With the blinds up to 250K/500K ante 50K kcruse11 raised to 1.1 million as Tbn220 tried to shut it down with a shove. Instead kcruse11 was willing to gamble holding A♦8♥. A good wager as Tbn220 gave kcruse11 a flip with pocket fours 4♣4♠. Kcruse11 was given a sporting chance until the four in the door 4♦ J♥ T♠ 7♣ 3♥ locked up $76,346.00 and this week's Sunday Warm-Up title for Tbn220!
