Sunday Warm-Up: dlanger610 turns the tables after two-way chop earning $58K
With all eyes on collecting Euros in Monaco and Monte Carlo the online presence for the Sunday Majors was lighter than usual. Or perhaps the players are saving their energy and sanity for the start of the 55 event (times three buy-in levels) 2016 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) next week. This week's $400,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up came two entries short of the requisite amount as 1,998 players hunted for the $64K sitting up top. After a shade under ten hours of play, a two-way chop, and some late-game magic, dlanger610 would earn $58,370.91 for the victory
Read on below for dlanger610's road to a Sunday Warm-Up win.
Thanks to the lighter population of the Sunday Warm-Up it would only take a little more than seven hours to reach the final two tables as SCOOP champ Sobizzle21 and World Championship of Online Poker champ Shyam "G's zee" Srinivasan would come up short in this edition finishing in 25th and 20th place ($1,360.00) respectively.
Another SCOOP watch holder (2013 Event #36-H), Anthony "wwwBTHEREcom" Gregg, would make it to final two tables, but not the spotlights after blackaces93's pocket tens told Gregg's ace-five it was time to leave in 16th place ($1,600.00).
Five minutes and two more eliminations later, 13 players would take a break after eight hours of play. Among those remaining Vitorbrasil and previously mentioned blackaces93 have been to the Sunday Warm-Up final table a couple of times but never going home with the gold.
Halfway through the hour Vitorbrasil's attempt at another Sunday Warm-Up final table would end in 11th place ($3,000.00) kicking off hand-for-hand play.
While Vitorbrasil would not move on, blackaces93 would thanks to this hand. With the blinds at 40K/80K ante 8K hello_totti would min-raise from the cutoff as agnik80 shoved for 1.14 million holding pocket nines 9♥9♠. Holding pocket queens Q♠Q♣ hello_totti would quickly call and make it through the J♠ K♥ A♦ 3♥ 7♥ board to start up the final table below:
Seat 1: blackaces93 (2706188 in chips)
Seat 2: lipeabruzzi (1927687 in chips)
Seat 3: jbugueno (2206459 in chips)
Seat 4: SeeYouAnte18 (400885 in chips)
Seat 5: hello_totti (5131990 in chips)
Seat 6: 3WhiteTigers (1748527 in chips)
Seat 7: OneH1tWonder (1608836 in chips)
Seat 8: dlanger610 (2898402 in chips)
Seat 9: Kzzon (1351026 in chips)
With the shortened field it was not unusual to see an all-in on the first hand of final table play. But, SeeYouAnte18 would chop up the pot with jbugueno. That would earn SeeYouAnte18 a few hands of reprieve but the shortstack would need to gamble again, this time pushing 464,885 over a min-raise by lipeabruzzi with pocket nines 9♠9♣. Decent hand for such a position, but lipeabruzzi's kings K♦K♣ were better on the A♣ 3♣ Q♣ 3♠ Q♥ board ending SeeYouAnte18's tournament in ninth place ($3,800.00).
The fast action did not stop there as another pre-flop all-in started up. With the blinds holding at 40K/80K ante 8K dlanger610 would raise to 175K as blackaces93 shoved for 2.59 million from the small blind. Blackaces93 held the hand of monster magnets late in this tournament flipping up pocket nines 9♣9♦ which attracted dlanger610's aces A♠A♥. A clean Q♠ Q♥ 3♠ 8♠ 6♠ sheet would send blackaces93 away short of the goal again in eighth place ($6,800.00).
Continuing with the theme of a turbo finish, a third consecutive pre-flop all-in would take place. Luckily no one had pocket nines but Kzzon's Q♠T♠ would need a little luck against hello_totti's A♦9♠. Neither player touched the 6♦ J♣ 5♦ 6♠ 2♣ board as Kzzon notched a $10,000.00 score in seventh place.
The players would take an unusually early break to discuss possible chop figures but a general lack of agreement would leave the $64K up top as all six players would safely enter the ninth hour of play.
Ten minutes into the new hour with the blinds up to 65K/130K ante 13K dlanger610 would raise to 299,000 as 3WhiteTigers called out of the big blind. Both would check the 9♠3♥3♦ flop but 3WhiteTigers' remaining 785K chips would reach the middle after the T♥ turn. Dlanger610 would make the call holding a slight advantage with flopped quads 3♠3♣ rendering 3WhiteTigers' Q♠J♣ moot and ready to receive $14,000.00 in sixth place.
Five hands later as the blinds moved up to 80K/160K ante 16K hello_totti decided to apply pressure to the big blind shoving for five million chips. OneH1tWonder, who made a Sunday Million final table as well, would call all-in for 1.6 million holding K♣J♣. Unfortunately, the bully had the goods turning over big slick K♥A♦ and the superior hand held up J♠ 3♠ A♥ 2♠ 7♥ shipping $18,000.00 to OneH1tWonder in fifth place.
Halfway through the ninth hour of play with the blinds holding, chip leader lipeabruzzi would min-raise from the small blind as jbugueno shoved for two million with Q♠T♦. Running face-first into lipeabruzzi's queens Q♥Q♣. Those queens would be the end of jbugueno's run at this Sunday Major A♠ 7♦ 7♥ A♥ J♦ earning $24,800.00 in fourth place.
After dlanger610's "HELLO HELLO HELLO" shout in the chat box woke up hello_totti and lipeabruzzi they would chat briefly about chopping up the remaining funds. But, hello_totti was looking to lock up close to second place funds at the dominate chip leader's expense. Lipeabruzzi calmly advised "ICM or nothing" and nothing was the call as the cards went back up in the air.
A few minutes later with the blinds moving up again to 100K/200K ante 20K lipeabruzzi would raise from the button as hello_totti declined the chip leader's advances and shoved for 3.69 million from the small blind. "gg gl" was all hello_totti could say after seeing pocket sevens 7♦7♠ dominated by lipeabruzzi's eights 8♦8♠. The eights would hold on the 4♠ K♥ T♥ 6♠ K♦ board ending hello_totti's run in third place ($36,000.00).
Despite the 15.2 million to 4.7 million chip advantage, lipeabruzzi welcomed some quick chop talks from dlanger610 as the two were able to make the deal below and play for $8,500.
Good timing on lipeabruzzi's part as dlanger610 won the second hand of heads-up play for 3.4 million chips, then doubled-up after turning trips while fading lipeabruzzi's flush draw. This flipped the chip counts in dlanger610's favor 13.4 million to 6.5 million.
An advantage dlanger610 would not give up as six minutes later with the blinds still at 100K/200K ante 20K both players would trade pre-flop raises until 16.3 million chips sat in the middle. Dlanger610 held pocket nines 9♥9♣ which had a way of finding aces, kings, and queens earlier but would get a fair shake here against lipeabruzzi's A♦Q♦. A turned straight 6♠ 7♠ T♣ 8♦ and no chop on the river Q♣ would end in dlanger610's favor earning $58,370.91 as this week's Sunday Warm-Up champion!
