TCOOP: kollerPS collars Event #41 title after chop with Honk Madison ($109 PLO Heads-Up)

13996-TCOOP-thumb.pngTalk about action. Pot-limit Omaha. Heads-up format. Five-minute levels. Saturday's TCOOP Event #41, a $109 buy-in PLO heads-up tourney, certainly had everything an action junkie could want.

A total of 1,127 players saw the event as inviting enough to enter, thereby creating a $112,700 prize pool, more than twice the tourney's $50K guarantee. One had to make the final 128 to cash, meaning winning at three or in some cases four matches. That ensured at least a $225.40 payday, but for the player making it all the way to the finals and winning a first-prize of $22,540 and a cool TCOOP gold-plated card capper was waiting.

Round 1 (1,127 to 1,024)

By the luck of the draw, most players earned first-round byes, although a few had to win their way to advance.

Among the 10 representatives of Team PokerStars to participate in Event #41, only Alex Kravchenko had to play a first-round match. The Russian dispatched of V0R0 in just five minutes to move on.

After 40 minutes all but one of the first-round matches had completed, with MrHalliGalli and Mammola sitting with even stacks in the lone remaining match. They went back and forth for another 10 minutes before MrHalliGalli finally prevailed and the next round immediately began.

Round 2 (1,024 to 512)

It would take but three hands for ilovecpma to wipe out Team PokerStars Pro Martin Staszko's stack at the start of Round 2. Tonimonntana needed just a few more hands to take care of Anders "Donald" Berg of Team Online. Then Martin "AABenjaminAA" Hruby eliminated thegr8str8 shortly after that to advance.

pnsDresden eliminated Kravchenko in under 10 minutes, and Marcin "Goral" Horecki took just a little longer to beat pupsi ffm to advance. Next loooseslots knocked out Shane "shaniac" Schleger and OlegKh7 bested Javier "El_Cañonero" Dominguez to eliminate a couple of Team Online players.

At about the half-hour mark Jude "j.thaddeus" Ainsworth eliminated dr4gos to move on, then Steph Bushey took the last of Team Online member Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen's stack to make the round of 512.

Meanwhile, Pat Pezzin of Team PokerStars Canada had drawn a tough opponent to kick things off in Keven "Stammdogg" Stammen, and those two fought for about 45 minutes before Pezzin finally won to advance.

Just a few matches were still going at that point, and when zdreamz finally knocked out iJustGamble after about 55 minutes of play they were on to the next round.

Round 3 (512 to 256)

All four of the Team PokerStars members who made it to the third-round would make it at least one step further.

Among the first of the Round 3 matches to complete was the one between Jude "j.thaddeus" Ainsworth and Fibonachi88, with Ainsworth taking care of his opponent in just three hands. Pat Pezzin would need about 15 minutes to oust syvers007 and move on. And Marcin "Goral" Horecki took just over a half-hour to beat -hardyharr-.

Meanwhile Martin "AABenjaminAA" Hruby's match with Krale jordi pressed on, and in fact would be the last of the 256 third-round matches to conclude. Finally, after about 45 minutes, Hruby won the last of his opponent's chips and the fourth round was immediately underway.

Round 4 (256 to 128)

Pat Pezzin's run would end shy of the cash after a quick fourth-round match in which Joep "Pappe_Ruk" van den Bijgaart defeated the Team PokerStars Canada pro. Martin "AABenjaminAA" Hruby moved on, however, beating vovv shortly after.

Marcin "Goral" Horecki also advanced, needing just 12 minutes to knock out wielkiG. Then after just about half an hour it was Z Cosmonaut knocking out Jude "j.thaddeus" Ainsworth to make the cash.

After about 55 minutes there were just two matches ongoing. ero22 then knocked out MrHalliGalli, then Andre_Hansen took care of monster atsa just shy of the one-hour mark and they were down to 128.

Round 5 (128 to 64)

All 128 of those getting to the fifth round had banked at least $225.40.

The fifth round spelled the end of the road for the last two remaining representatives of Team PokerStars. Martin "AABenjaminAA" Hruby jumped out to an early lead versus Parti$an, but his opponent quickly fought back and after about 35 minutes had claimed the last of Hruby's stack.

Meanwhile, Marcin "Goral" Horecki's match went similarly, with Horecki leading early, then falling behind before succumbing at about the 40-minute mark.

About 10 minutes later it was zi_allen knocking out CapitanB and pnsDresden eliminating ero22, and they were down to 64.

Round 6 (64 to 32)

Everyone making it this far were guaranteed at least $450.80. But all 64 remaining players continued to eye the $22.5k-plus awaiting the one among them who could negotiate another six heads-up matches.

The sixth round took about 40 minutes to complete. Winners were as follows: ***L***886, ante_geia_AA, buzzard1881, davidmoreira, DYSHANBE, Fred_Brink, Gry Dilling, guy edri, Honk Madison, IneedMassari, johnxfleming, jusgivithere, klovn01, kollerPS, marroca5, MATHEUS7777, mitsakos21, Mt.Spewmore, Nikolo5, Pappe_Ruk, Parti$an, RICOFELIZ, Rounder63, SixthSenSe19, SquashBuddy, TeodorKAMATA, THEDUTCH4141, TLD2008, ziNgZang10, zi_allen, ZombiedCaked, and ~Peeranha~.

Round 7 (32 to 16)

Making the final 32 meant at least $788.90, but all who remained were of course hoping for much more out of TCOOP Event #41.

Within the first 15 minutes of the seventh round mitsakos21 knocked out THEDUTCH4141, ***L***886 took all of TLD2008's chips, klovn01 beat buzzard1881, ante_geia_AA felted marroca5, jusgivithere knocked out Gry Dilling, Honk Madison defeated Rounder63, and zi_allen wiped out TeodorKAMATA.

Over the next 10 minutes it was kollerPS defeating johnxfleming, ZombiedCaked beating MATHEUS7777, Mt.Spewmore knocked out IneedMassari, SquashBuddy eliminated Parti$an, SixthSenSe19 took care of DYSHANBE, ziNgZang10 ousted Joep "Pappe_Ruk" van den Bijgaart, and davidmoreira felted Nikolo5.

They hadn't quite reached the half-hour mark when guy edri defeated RICOFELIZ, leaving just one match to go. A few minutes later it was ~Peeranha~ finishing off Fred_Brink and they were on to the sweet 16.

Round 8 (16 to 8)

ziNgNang10 was the first through to the next round after defeating mitsakos21 in less than five minutes. It took ~Peeranha~ just a little while longer to eliminate klovn01 to move on. Then Honk Madison knocked out jusgivithere and ante_geia_AA beat zi_allen in short order to fill up half of the quarterfinals bracket.

After 20 minutes guy edri had chipped Fabrizio "SixthSenSe19" Gonzalez down to a short stack, then won the last of his stack to advance. kollerPS was the next through shortly after that after beating davidmoreira.

A few minutes later ZombiedCaked advanced versus Mt.Spewmore, then
***L***886 knocked out SquashBuddy, and after less than a half-hour they were on to the quarterfinals.

Losers in the eighth round earned $1,239.70 for their efforts.

Round 9 (8 to 4)

Those failing to get out of this round had a nice consolation prize of $3,493.70 waiting for them.

In just their fifth hand, ~Peeranha~ advanced against ziNgZang10. Bets on all post-flop streets finally saw ziNgZang10 all in with A♥K♦5♣3♥ on a K♠J♦A♦8♠Q♦ board. His two pair weren't enough, though, as ~Peeranha~ had A♠T♠6♠4♦ for a Broadway straight to win.

It only took ante_geia_AA a few more hands to earn a spot in the semis after winning his match against ZombiedCaked. Those two got it all in on the turn with the board showing A♣[10d]4♣9♦. ante_gaia_AA had A♠Q♠9♣9♥ for a set of nines while ZombiedCaked had two pair and a flush draw with A♦9♠4♦2♦. The river was the 5♣, and ante_geia_AA's set held.

Soon after that guy edri was all in on a 9♦Q♣5♥ flop with A♥A♦T♦9♠ against Honk Madison's Q♦Q♥T♣9♣. The turn was the 7♥ and river the 2♥ and Honk Madison's set of queens sent him into the next round.

By then kollerPS had whittled ***L***886 down to less than 1,000 chips to his 9,000-plus, and soon the latter was all in on a 9♥K♠2♦A♥ board with K♥5♥4♥3♥ for flush and straight draws versus kollerPS's A♠7♦6♠2♥ for two pair. The river was the T♣, and kollerPS had taken the last of the final four spots, the entire round having taken less than 10 minutes!

Round 10 (4 to 2)

Whereas early rounds were taking nearly an hour to complete, players making it this far had considerably speeded up the action (even though the structures remained the same from round to round). Meanwhile, the stakes were rising. Losers in the semis would earn $6,762 -- about a fourth of first-prize money.

kollerPS jumped out to a quick lead over ante_geia_AA in their match, and after just seven minutes of play the latter was committing his short stack on a 7♠3♦5♣ flop with A♦Q♠J♦2♠. Meanwhile kollerPS had A♥7♣6♥3♣, and after the 4♥ turn and 5♠ river, kollerPS had the better straight to earn the first spot in the finals.

In the other semifinal match, Honk Madison had taken a lead against ~Peeranha~ and about five minutes after the other match had completed, ~Peeranha~ was all in on a 2♦J♥5♣ flop holding A♠Q♦J♠9♠ for top pair of jacks. Meanwhile Honk Madison had K♦6♦4♣3♦ for a wrap draw, and when the 3♣ fell on the turn he'd made his straight, making the T♠ no matter. ~Peeranha~ was out, and Honk Madison moved on to the finals.

Round 11 (2 to 1)

Just one hand into the finals the match was paused to give the players a chance to talk about chopping first- and second-place prize money. After not much discussion at all the pair agreed to do just that, leaving $1,000 on the table for which to play, and the last match of the day was underway in earnest.

The pair remained even for the first 15 minutes or so until kollerPS began to edge out into the lead. By Level 4 (blinds 50/100), kollerPS had chipped up to 8,710 to Honk Madison's 1,290 when the final hand took place.

kollerPS opened with a raise to 300 from the button, Honk Madison made it 900 to go, and kollerPS just called. The flop came 6♦J♥J♣ and Honk Madison went ahead and committed his last 390. kollerPS quickly called.

Honk Madison: K♦Q♦7♣5♣
kollerPS: A♠J♦T♠9♣

Trips for kollerPS versus (relatively thin) hopes for Honk Madison. The turn brought the 8♦, meaning a diamond flush was possible to save Honk Madison. But the river brought the A♦ -- a flush, but also a full house for kollerPS. After more than seven hours and 11 rounds of poker, TCOOP Event #41 had been decided!

Congratulations to kollerPS for collaring the title, and to Honk Madison as well for making it to the final round to chop.
