TCOOP: Phat cash by phatlat, hauling in $22K after Event #14 win
As Brad Willis mentioned a few days ago the precious guarantees by PokerStars for the 2012 Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) have been getting a savage beatdown. Today's Event #14's $55 buy-in No Limit Omaha Hi/Low tournament (with two rebuys/one add-on) would continue this trend. The 1,321 entries alone covered the $50,000 guarantee but the 1,284 rebuys and 288 add-ons beat the guarantee into an unrecognizable pulp laying out $144,650.00 to be split up by 168 players and $24,229.61 set aside for our champ.
Team PokerStars Pros and Team Online dropped by today, but mostly to donate. Anders "Donald" Berg was right at home in an O8 tourney but fizzled out in 313th place. Marcin "Goral" Horecki and Lex Veldhuis would miss out on the cash finishing in 230th and 223rd place respectively. Only Team Online's Kristian "CharismA3" Martin would find a cash today taking home $202.51 in 148th place.
Down to two tables of six the time before the bubble would last just 13 minutes. First, Marcio89 would take a pair of kings K♣ 5♦ 6♥ K♠ up against N0b0dy's double suited low hand 8♥ A♥ 2♦ 4♦ and watched as the rivered diamond J♦ Q♣ 8♦ 2♥ T♦ delivered Marcio89's tournament fate in 12th place ($1,663.47).
Over on Table 161 liebanon could not fib his way out of this one. With the blinds at 50K/100K ante 12,500 Sir_Don_John shoved from the cutoff for 1.3 million as liebanon holding aces A♦ 8♦ A♠ Q♥ made the call from the small blind. Sir_Don_John went looking for a low split with A♣ 5♠ 8♠ 5♣ and ending up finding a scooping straight on the K♠ 7♦ J♦ 4♣ 6♠ board instead taking the 2.1 million chip pot and handing $1,663.47 to liebanon in 11th place.
JaggerJaq may have moves like Jagger but that did not help to win today's tournament. Shortly after boredmusttry fell in tenth place and blinds holding at 50K/100K ante 12,500 JaggerJaq shoved from the hijack seat for 646,451 as phatlat made the call holding 6♣ 6♠ A♣ K♥. The suited ace and low hand A♠ J♠ 6♦ 3♣ of JaggerJaq never showed any swagger on the T♥ 9♣ K♣ 2♥ 2♦ board ending the night in ninth place ($2,459.05)
Däggers would draw blood and 2.8 million chips while taking down bellababy in 8th place ($2,459.05). And shortly after the blinds moved up to 60K/120K ante 15K, N0b0dy was trying to make a name for himself with a shove from the button for 940,607 chip. Däggers once again would bring death to another player's tournament hopes by making the call with aces J♣ A♦ A♠ 6♠. N0b0dy would show kings 7♣ 4♦ K♥ K♦ and would make two pair by the turn 4♠ 5♦ 8♠ 7♥ to overcome the aces. Well, overcome until the rivered ace A♥ appeared sending N0b0dy home in seventh place ($2,459.05) starting up the final table below:
Seat 1: fladnag11 (884011 in chips)
Seat 2: byniolek (1527733 in chips)
Seat 3: Sir_Don_John (2188558 in chips)
Seat 4: phatlat (3532942 in chips)
Seat 5: Däggers (3979138 in chips)
Seat 6: Vovan7778 (2352618 in chips)
Gandalf casts Spell of Chip Attainment
Blinds quickly moving up to 100K/200K ante 25K fladnag11 in the hijack seat looking to take down an easy pot with a shove to 1.8 million. Sir_Don_John however found T♣ A♣ 2♦ 9♠ on the button to his liking and made the call. fladnag11 (or Gandalf from the popular Lord of the Rings series spelled backwards) flipped up a suited low wrap hand 5♥ 2♠ 4♠ 6♠. Sir_Don_John looked like he had the low wrapped by the turn 4♥ 8♣ Q♣ 6♥ but the river card once again would knock someone out of this tournament as the A♥ counterfeited the nut low, allowing fladnag11 to scoop the 2.8 million chip pot ending Sir_Don_John's reign in sixth place ($3,977.87).
Just three hands later, phatlat and Vovan7778 would shove preflop getting over six million chips in the middle. Watch below for the results:
No love shown for Vovan's excellent 2♦ 3♠ A♥ T♦ starting hand as phatlat's A♠ 5♦ J♦ 3♣ would find a jack on the turn Q♦ 6♦ A♣ J♥ and avoid a low on the river T♣ to scoop the six million chip pot and end Vovan7778's tournament in fifth place ($6,104.23).
Getting phatter by the minute
A rapid pace final table, five hands later saw phatlat once again scooping a six million chip pot. This time the victim was Däggers who laid destruction to the penultimate table but could not keep the momentum going. With the blinds still at 100K/200K ante 25K Däggers would shove from cutoff for just over three million as phatlat made the call from the big blind holding a low suited ace A♦ 6♥ T♦ 2♠. Bigger kicker, better low chances, and double suited with 3♥ A♥ Q♣ 2♣ Däggers looked primed for a big pot. However, no low would come out on the 4♠ 4♥ 9♦ 6♦ T♣ board as phatlat found a running two pair stabbing Däggers' chip stack while giving him fourth place cash ($9,329.92).
Do you believe in magic?
The very next hand byniolek would try to conjure up some chips with a shove from the button having fallen to just over a million with blinds still at 100K/200K ante 25K. fladnag11 however summoned some courage to make the call from the big blind holding 8♦ 7♣ Q♥ A♣. byniolek held the better low draw also with a suited ace 4♥ 7♥ A♦ T♦. But, suits and lows fail to matter when they missed the board, as fladnag11 found queen's full Q♦ 3♠ 9♥ 8♣ Q♠ to cast byniolek from the table in third place ($13,669.42). Definitely not byniolek's first go around at a major O8 final table as the Polish player also took third in Event #30-H at the 2011 SCOOP series for $21K.
Dollar signs do the talking
The players immediately jumped into chop talks as Team Online's Javier "El_Canonero" Dominguez was kind enough to split up the remaining funds as shown below leaving $1,000.00 aside for our champ.
Out of spells
A quick heads-up battle between phatlat (9.7 million) and fladnag11 (4.7 million) would take place as the blinds moved up to 125K/250K ante 31,250. Three minues in fladnag11 would take the chip lead after phatlat had no answer to a four million shove on the river with the board showing Q♣ 9♣ A♣ 8♦ K♦.
However the tide quickly turned as phatlat would take down an 11.1 million chip pot after shoving preflop with 5♠ 4♥ 2♦ 2♥ and outracing the 7♦ 4♠ J♦ 2♠ of fladnag11 after trip fives 5♣ 9♥ K♦ 5♦ 8♣ would haul in the huge pot.
On the very hand, well... just watch the championship clinching video below:
Blinds still at 125K/250K ante 31,250 and the chip lead turned over to phatlat, fladnag11 made a steal attempt by shoving from the button for 3.2 million holding 9♦ J♥ 3♦ 9♥. However, phatlat caught a decent three-card high wrap hand making the call A♦ K♣ Q♥ 6♦. phatlat's call was rewarded with an ace on the door A♥ T♦ 4♣ 5♥ and missing fladnag11's flush draw on the river T♠ to win the extra $1,000.00 and claim the title of 2012 TCOOP Event #14!
