TCOOP 2013: All hail robinho, winner of Event 37 ($27 PLO 6-Max 2R1A)

Players sometimes surprise even the most experienced online poker minds. When setting up the 2013 Turbo Championship of Online Poker, they looked at this Friday tournament - a Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Max - and decided that the $27 buy-in should offer two rebuys and one add-on. Their expectation for turnout was solid but not extraordinary, so they set the guarantee at $50,000.

Evidently, PLO players came out in force. With more than half of TCOOP complete and only a handful of opportunities left to obtain that coveted title, they were more than anxious to compete in Event 37.

To say that the $50K guarantee was passed would be a definite understatement. Look at these final registration numbers!

Players: 3,066
Rebuys: 3,347
Add-ons: 755
Guarantee: $50,000.00
Prize pool: $175,974.40
Paid players: 390

By the time the money bubble burst, only two members of Team PokerStars remained in action. The first to exit was Stavros "IDOLLS" Kalfas of Greece, who exited in 329th place for $105.58. And as the three-hour mark approached, Marcel Luske of Malta was eliminated in 195th place for $158.37.

Little more than an hour later, play was reduced to only two tables, and it didn't take long to reach hand-for-hand play, which occurred after the eighth place elimination of nillipilli. Then, 132111 made a raise, and when bollemus reraised all-in, 132111 called all-in with A♠8♦T♥8♥. Bollemus showed A♣A♦J♥3♥, and the aces held up to the K♥6♦5♠2♣J♦ board. 132111 was eliminated in seventh place with $2,111.69.

Durable DURA_LOSHAD is chip leader

The final table began at the start of Level 48, with blinds at 250,000/500,000 and these players' starting stacks:

Seat 1: birs320 (3,738,524 in chips)
Seat 2: robinho (5,550,759 in chips)
Seat 3: bollemus (5,814,230 in chips)
Seat 4: B00mslang (6,659,370 in chips)
Seat 5: 72nasi19 (5,249,313 in chips)
Seat 6: DURA_LOSHAD (8,827,804 in chips)

Play was slow at first, as most of the players wanted to stop the tournament to discuss a potential deal. When all agreed, they did just that. But after looking at ICM numbers and throwing around some options, there was no unanimous agreement. Play resumed.

Only a few hands after their return, birs320 made a raise from middle position, and B00mslang reraised from the big blind. Birs320 called all-in with Q♠T♣4♣T♠, and B00mslang turned over 6♣K♥A♣7♦. The flop came 3♠9♦A♦ to give B00mslang the pair of aces, and neither the 8♣ turn nor 2♥ river changed anything. Birs320 had to leave in sixth place with $3,144.66.

The rise of robinho

The next player at risk was bollemus, who made the push from the small blind after robinho raised from the button. Bollemus was at risk with T♣A♠J♠3♣, and robinho called with 5♠J♦K♠K♥. The board came A♦3♦8♦6♣Q♣ to give robinho two pair, and bollemus was gone in fifth place with $6,159.10.

Robinho took over the chip lead, and then raised UTG with DURA_LOSHAD in the big blind. DURA_LOSHAD reraised all-in for nearly 12.9 million chips, and robinho called with 7♣6♦9♥4♣. DURA_LOSHAD had A♦5♠A♣7♦, but the board of K♥7♠J♣6♥8♣ gave robinho two pair. That left former chip leader DURA_LOSHAD out in fourth place with $9,678.59.

72nasi19 was very short-stacked and doubled through B00mslang, who in turn doubled through robinho. 72nasi19 then doubled through robinho, and B00mslang doubled through 72nasi19. The latter did the same through robinho again.

Still short, 72nasi19 pushed all-in again, that time with A♦4♥J♣9♣ against the T♦A♠3♠K♥ of robinho. The flop of Q♦3♥Q♥ gave robinho two pair, but the J♥ on the river gave 72nasi19 the better two pair. However, the river came 3♣ for trip threes, eliminating 72nasi19 in third place with $14,957.82.

Heads-up, one hand

The initial chip counts were:

Seat 2: robinho (32,145,676 in chips)
Seat 4: B00mslang (3,694,324 in chips)

Robinho started the hand with a raise, and B00mslang called all-in with K♣5♠Q♥8♦. Robinho turned over 9♠4♥J♥A♠. The board of 7♦J♦2♦K♥J♠ made two pair for B00mslang but trip jacks for robinho. B00mslang, 2012 SCOOP title holder, had to accept second place in this event and the $20,237.05 that went with it.

Robinho of Sweden won the TCOOP title and $27,717.84. Congrats!
