TCOOP 2013: DARE U TOO dares and wins in Event #13 ($33 NLHE Saturday Speedway Special)
The Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) is now in full swing with thousands of players enjoying the fast-paced action and huge prize pools on offer. Today was no different as the Saturday Speedway was turbo-charged as the 13th event of the TCOOP schedule.
The great thing about the TCOOP events is that is doesn't matter how short your stack gets, with a little luck, you can run it up in no time at all! That's exactly what DARE U TOO from Canada did on this final table. After starting as one of the shorties, DARE U TOO went on an epic run where the cards, and lady luck, fell the right way to grab an improbably victory.
It was the $33 Saturday Speedway Special Edition and the event attracted 7,749 players to create a very nice $232,470 prize pool to blow away the advertised guarantee.
It took only a little over an hour and a half for players to reach a profit as the top 1,170 were paid. As always, there had to be a bubble story, and unfortunately that was eli8411 from Peru who missed the $46.49 min-cash by the narrowest of margins.
Martin Hrubý, Kevin Thurman, Shane Schleger, Toni Judet, Max Lykov, Angel Guillen, Christophe de Meulder, Matthias de Meulder, Andre Akkari were representing the red spade of Team PokerStars, bud sadly missed the money as Mickey Petersen (146th - $139.48) was the only Team PokerStars Pro to cash.
With five tables left PrinceFlappy from the Netherlands was the chip leader with more than double the next best. We busily went to work on a list of puns to use for the heading for this article, and were thankful to see the Prince made it to the final table.
But the chip lead was nabbed by riverwin14 after flopping a set of eights to better the top pair of Ace_Cya as the final table was formed:
Final Table Lineup
Seat 1: tkmcow (1,482,024 in chips)
Seat 2: DARE U TOO (668,271 in chips)
Seat 3: pitaoufmg (2,462,733 in chips)
Seat 4: Colognesvd (1,740,368 in chips)
Seat 5: riverwin14 (7,288,498 in chips)
Seat 6: MYBIGGUNS|SM (3,254,972 in chips)
Seat 7: Smoqew (569,352 in chips)
Seat 8: PrinceFlappy (3,246,544 in chips)
Seat 9: APZ19 (2,534,238 in chips)
The final table blinds started off at a rather dizzy 90k/180k/18k and we didn't have to wait long for action after a three-way all in on the very first hand of play:
A triple up with kings, just in the nick of time too, for DARE U TOO as tkmcow was quickly dispatched to the rail in 9th place for $1,801.64.
The comeback of DARE U TOO continued with another nice pot before a massive clash with MYBIGGUNS|SM saw over five million chips in the middle preflop. MYBIGGUNS|SM held A♥K♥ and looked in good shape against DARE U TOO's dominated A♣Q♥ but incredibly the board ran out T♣7♣J♣K♣8♥ to club an unlucky MYBIGGUNS|SM to the rail in 8th place for a $2,673.40 score.
Smoqew was hanging on for dear life, but the blinds quickly caught up to force Smoqew into action. After one small double up, Smoqew was all in again for just three big blinds and found two callers who checked down the board of Q♦2♠8♦3♥T♥. riverwin14 was the only one that showed, with 8♣5♥ enough to scoop the pot. Smoqew collected $4,649.40 for 7th place.
After some early luck, it seemed that DARE U TOO's fortune had turned after getting it in with pocket tens against APZ19's pocket sevens, only for a seven to spike on the turn. But that changed with the elimination of Colognesvd in rather spectacular fashion:
A bold move by DARE U TOO paid off with the fall of the river to see Colognesvd bundled out in 6th place for $6,974.10 in prize money.
Despite illusions of the reporting team remaining completely unbiased, we were secretly still cheering for PrinceFlappy to make a run for the title. And the flappy one picked up some momentum with a double up pairing king-queen against riverwin14's pocket fours, before removing APZ19 in another big preflop war. APZ19 cold four-bet T♦9♦ but the Prince was unmoved with K♥Q♥ which caught the winning pair on the river on the 4♣5♥T♠6♦Q♦ board. APZ19 took home $9,298.80 for 5th place.
DARE U TOO landed another double up, this time with pocket nines against pitaoufmg's ace-eight to leave pitaoufmg reeling on the short stack.
pitaoufmg was unable to recover, committing less than two big blinds with 9♠6♠ but running into the Q♦Q♠ of riverwin14. There was no sweat on the J♥T♠4♣T♥2♦ board, leaving pitaoufmg to collect $11,716.48 for 4th place.
The three remaining players were pretty even in chips, but it took just three more hands until our champion was crowned. Chip leaders PrinceFlappy and DARE U TOO collided preflop, with DARE U TOO shoving 6♠6♣ and PrinceFlappy making the call to race with K♣J♥. PrinceFlappy flopped some straight outs, but the board of 4♥T♣9♥2♣4♠ left PrinceFlappy to depart in 3rd place for $17,435.25.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 2: DARE U TOO (17,005,253 in chips)
Seat 5: riverwin14 (6,241,747 in chips)
The blinds were at 140k/280k/28k so there was a little room to move, but after riverwin14 took down the first heads-up pot, the chips went flying preflop on the very next hand.
DARE U TOO three-bet shoved with 4♦4♣ and riverwin14 made the call with 7♦7♥. riverwin14 was in great shape to flip the contest on its head, but the turbo poker Gods had other ideas as the board arrived J♦T♣Q♠4♥6♠. Not for the first time on this final table, DARE U TOO had been the aggressor and found the luck when it mattered, spiking a four to take the pot and claim the win! riverwin14 adds $25,571.70 to the account for a fine tournament as DARE U TOO takes the TCOOP title to Canada along with $34,876.40 in prize money!
