TCOOP 2017: Dutch domination as Thomas823 wins Event #47 ($27 NL Omaha Hi-Lo Six-Max)
Is it just me, or are the Dutch pretty much good at everything?
It was an all-Dutch finale at the PokerStars Turbo Championship of Online Poker today with Event #47 of the series coming down to a battle between bokkie87 and Thomas823. Both hailing from the Netherlands, Bokkie87 was a former two-time COOP winner, including a TCOOP victory in Event #28 of this years' series, but in the end he was unable to get past countryman Thomas823 who secured the title and over $10,000 in prize money from just a $27 investment.
Event #47 of the 2017 TCOOP was a $27 No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 6-Max event which attracted a field of 2,941 entries - 1,863 unique players with 1,078 re-entries. The prize pool was guaranteed at $75,000 which would be divided up among the top 401 players. When the bubble burst on the UK's RainOfSalt, the remaining players had locked up a minimum payday of $59.43.
One notable player making a deep run was Online PokerStars Pro Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome. After an early bust out, talonchick rebought and made her second bullet count with a deep run.
talonchick battled her way to the final two tables before getting pretty unlucky with aces against aces. Her opponent, AK47BR made a flush for the high and a seven-low, while talonchick couldn't improve on her pair to go with an eight-low. That hand crippled her stack and talonchick was bundled out moments later in 11th place for $554.79 in prize money.
It would take over five-and-a-half hours of play to reach the final table of six following the elimination of Connor "blanconegro" Drinan on the final table bubble. After losing a huge pot against aces, blanconegro's last chips were all in with 6♦A♠Q♥Q♠ against bokkie87's 2♠4♣9♦6♠. The board would bring two pair for bokkie87 and leave blanconegro to exit in seventh place to leave our final table as follows:
Final Table Line Up
Seat 1: Thomas823 (8,952,405 in chips)
Seat 2: bokkie87 (4,282,523 in chips)
Seat 3: MarkHazard74 (2,182,652 in chips)
Seat 4: Murilo "Muka82" Figueiredo (6,045,271 in chips)
Seat 5: 777toome (3,926,201 in chips)
Seat 6: Zanos_Goda (4,020,948 in chips)
The final table would kick off with blinds at 140k/280k/35k and it wouldn't take long for some action as Muka82 and Zanos_Goda collided. Both had the same low but Muka82 rivered a set to take three-quarters of the pot.
Zanos_Goda was then the one under pressure. After splitting one pot with bokkie87, Zanos_Goda was all in preflop moments later with Thomas823 making the call. Zanos_Goda tabled 7♥J♣K♥2♣ while Thomas823 showed 3♠A♥3♦J♠. The flop was as bad as it gets for the short stack as the board ran out T♠K♣Q♣4♥6♠ to see Thomas823 flop a Broadway straight to eliminate Zanos_Goda in sixth place for $1,298.40.
bokkie87 and 777toome chopped a pot before MarkHazard74 scooped a big double up. bokkie87 had shoved from the small blind with Broadway cards but MarkHazard74 made the call with aces which held when the board bricked out.
bokkie87 was in some trouble but found a double up of his own with a straight and low against Thomas823's two pair. That left 777toome on the short stack and moments later, 777toome was all in from the button. Thomas823 made the call in the small blind with J♠5♥5♦J♦ but 777toome had a nice hi-lo hand of 4♥7♠2♠A♥. Both players would make a full house on a board of 4♣J♣T♠A♣4♠ but it was jacks full of fours for Thomas823 which took down the pot. 777toome was left to depart in fifth place for $1,986.33 in prize money.
bokkie87 was in the thick of the action, splitting consecutive hands before scooping a nice pot against MarkHazard74 with a wheel.
However the biggest pot of the tournament to this point would go to Thomas823 with the elimination of Murilo "Muka82" Figueiredo. After a preflop raise, both players checked the flop to see a board of K♥A♠J♠8♦ on the turn. This is where Muka82 made a move to take it down with an all-in bet holding 9♣3♠2♣A♣ for top pair with a low draw but Thomas823 made the call with A♦K♦4♥Q♦ for top two pair. Muka82 had plenty of outs to stay alive but the 9♥ on the river wasn't one of them. Muka82, who won Event #2 of this year's TCOOP series had to exit in fourth place for a $3,038.71 return.
Thomas823 was well in control with a big lead over both bokkie87 and MarkHazard74 but the short stacks wouldn't go down without a fight. MarkHazard74 secured a double up with kings and then tried to initiate a potential deal.
MarkHazard74 said, "wanna look?"
bokkie87 said, "k"
bokkie87 was open to the idea but Thomas823 remained silent and play continued.
bokkie87 and Thomas823 would split a pot, before bokkie87 clashed with MarkHazard74. bokkie87 moved all in from the small blind with a mixed 9♣8♥3♥K♠ and MarkHazard74 called for his tournament life in the big blind with a superior J♠A♦3♠T♦. bokkie87 had shown plenty of heart and those hearts would be important on the board of 9♥J♥Q♥6♦A♠. A flush for bokkie87 was too good for MarkHazard74's two pair to eliminate him in third place for a $4,648.68 collect.
Heads-up Chip Counts>
Seat 1: Thomas823 (15,044,392 in chips)
Seat 2: bokkie87 (14,365,608 in chips)
It was an all-Dutch heads-up clash with both players relatively even in chips. The two exchanged some banter in Dutch and appeared to be wanting to strike up a deal, but they couldn't both manage to tick the deal checkbox so play would continue.
The first five pots would go to bokkie87, with little resistance, to take over the chip lead, however Thomas823 would bounce back with a big double up. bokkie87 pushed with A♦5♣7♠3♦ and Thomas823 made the call with J♥8♠T♦A♥, improving to trip jacks to scoop the massive pot.
bokkie87 was on the ropes and next hand Thomas823 landed the knockout blow. Thomas823 moved all in with 7♥J♥7♠K♥ and bokkie87 made the call with 8♥A♣3♦4♥. bokkie87 had a nice hi-lo hand and would've been happy with the 5♥T♦2♥ flop, but bokkie87 couldn't find an out as the Q♣ turn and 9♣ river completed the board. bokkie87 was left with ace-high as Thomas823 made a straight to take down the pot and claim victory!
It was an entertaining run for bokkie87 which was brought to an end in second place for $7,111.62, but the TCOOP trophy goes to countryman Thomas823 who also picks up $10,881.20 in prize money. Congratulations!
