TCOOP 2017: Leukotape wraps up a win in Event #34, $82 PLO/8 (8-Max, Turbo, Progressive KO 50%)

TCOOP is all about action, and there was no lack of it on display today in Event #34. An $82 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo tournament with a 50% Progressive KO bounty on every player's head, it encouraged raises and re-raises the way that owning an orchard encourages one to do a lot of cooking with apples. Austria's Leukotape entered the final table second in chips and, after plenty of multi-way and split pots, turned that stack into the recipe for a first career TCOOP title.

In all, 993 players turned out for Event #34, building a $74,475 prize pool, half of which went to bounties and the other half to the 119 scheduled prizes, including more than $6,100 for first place.

Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome had a strong showing in this tournament. She had earned $315.20 in bounties was still in the hunt for the title with three tables remaining before she picked up A♣ A♥ Q♥ 9♣ 5♥ on the button and had two shorter stacks move all-in ahead of her. With both of the other aces in her opponents' hands she was looking to hit hearts for the high half of the pot, but the 6♦ T♠ 7♠ 5♦ 2♥ board made a set of deuces for grobitos, who made a 6-5 low to take three-quarters of the pot. Left with just over one big blind, Rowsome bowed out a few minutes later in 20th place.

Aces betrayed EDWARDHOPPER on the final table bubble, too. The player from Denmark got all-in with A♠ A♦ J♦ 5♣ 3♣ against the A♥ A♣ 9♣ 7♦ 3♦ against of magesblood and watched as the 8♦ 6♠ J♣ T♥ J♥ board delivered magesblood a jack-high straight. With low to grab half the pot, EDWARDHOPPER left in ninth to set up this final table:

Seat 1: MrMTucker (1,925,832 in chips, $1,170.33 bounty)
Seat 2: S3d3m2 (580,692 in chips, $199.20 bounty)
Seat 3: magesblood (1,527,151 in chips, $627.49 bounty)
Seat 4: The TJS (2,171,534 in chips, $1,667.18 bounty)
Seat 5: Andreas "mrAndreeew" Berggren (497,536 in chips, $440 bounty)
Seat 6: Leukotape (2,056,488 in chips, $556.60 bounty)
Seat 7: zaadar72 (418,012 in chips, $934.50 bounty)
Seat 8: Van Bijnen (752,755 in chips, $625.74 bounty)

The first knockout of the final table came on the same hand as the second. SCOOP 2014 winner and two-time Super Tuesday champ Andreas "mrAndreeew" Berggren opened the betting with a button raise to 162K and both Leukotape (in the small blind) and zaadar72 (in the big blind) came along for the A♦ 2♠ 9♠ flop. Leukotape led for 281K, zaadar72 called all-in for 233K, and mrAndreeew moved in for 32K more, setting up a three-way showdown:

Leukotape: 7♦ 6♥ 4♦ 3♠ 2♠
zaadar72: A♣ Q♣ Q♦ 9♦ 6♠
mrAndreeew: A♥ A♠ T♦ 8♠ 5♠

zaadar was already drawing nearly dead, while Leukotape was drawing to the nut low and mrAndreeew looked good value to win the high with a set of aces and nut spade flush draw. Leukotape indeed made the nut low with the 8♦ turn - and then also made a ten-high straight when the T♥ came on the river. Tht was good for the 1.38M-chip scoop, sending zaadar72 to the rail in eighth and mrAndreeew in seventh.

Van Bijnen would exit on the next hand in somewhat similar circumstances. After opening for 72K in the small blind with A♥ A♠ Q♦ 8♠ 3♦ and getting a call from MrMTucker in the big blind, Van Bijnen led for 72K with a set of aces on the A♣ 8♥ 4♠ flop. MrMTucker re-raised to 387K and then called when Van Bijnen moved in for 653K, showing K♠ J♦ 5♥ 4♥ 3♥, which had already made a low and had backdoor draws to a flush and a wheel straight. The 2♥ kept both draws alive, and the 3♠ on the river gave MrMTucker the wheel to scoop the pot. With that, Van Bijnen left in sixth.

magesblood took down the next pot in style. After flopping quad fives, the Finnish player checked the flop and check-called a small turn bet before leading on the river - and then calling to scoop the 2.92M-chip pot when MrMTucker, who made a set of aces on the A♣ river, raised all-in.

Two hands later magesblood called on the button after S3d3m2 raised to 165K in the cutoff, and past WCOOP, SCOOP, and MicroMillions final tablist The TJS came along from the big blind for a flop of 6♠ 2♦ J♥. S3d3m2 bet all-in for 389K when checked to and both opponents called, checking down the A♥ turn and 9♣ river to reach showdown. The TJS's 7-6-3-2-A with A♠ T♣ 7♣ 3♦ 2♣ won the low, magesblood's aces and jacks with A♣ Q♥ J♣ 5♣ 2♥, and Sed3ms2 left in fifth.

After 10 more hands, The TJS and MrMTucker barreled headlong into a pre-flop raising war that ended with The TJS all-in for 1.82M chips with A♥ A♠ J♦ 7♠ 6♣ against K♦ K♣ J♣ 8♠ 6♦ before a single community card had been dealt. The TJS was an 88.2-percent favorite with the board reading 7♥ 2♥ J♠ Q♦ after the turn, but the K♥ on the river turned that upside down. MrMTucker earned the 3.72M-chip pot with three kings, and The TJS, for the second day in a row, finished in fourth in a TCOOP 2017 event.

The remaining three players played another 12 minutes to the 3:55 p.m. ET break before talking over the possibility of a deal, given the game in play and the fact that all three stacks were relatively close in value. But when the numbers came back, Leukotape declined and the game pressed on. The next 23 minutes were tense and full of split pots, with a double-up for magesblood thrown into the mix for good measure.

The Finnish player took another stab at doubling up after raising to 540K from the small blind. Leukotape called in the big blind to bring the J♥ 7♠ A♥ flop and immediately raised all-in after magesblood led for a pot-sized 1.12M-chip bet. magesblood called with A♦ K♥ K♠ T♠ 3♠ for top pair, which trailed Leukotape's aces and jacks and low draw with A♠ Q♠ J♠ 8♦ 6♦. The two pair held up and Leukotape made an 8-7 low after the 6♠ turn and 3♣ river, scooping the 5.92M-chip pot and knocking out magesblood in third.

The first 22 hands of heads-up play went by in a six-minute blur, with two big split pots, a few small scoops, and a lot of blind-stealing giving MrMTucker a boost. On the 23rd hand, now separated by just three big blinds, they finally played a meaningful large pot - and it ended up being the last.

Leukotape opened for 450K on the button and MrMTucker called before check-raising to 2.48M on the T♥ 5♣ 4♥ flop. Leukotape re-raised all-in with A♥ K♦ Q♥ T♠ 6♥ for a pair of tens with the nut flush draw and a 6-5 low draw, and MrMTucker called with T♣ 8♥ 7♦ 6♦ 3♥ for a pair of tens with a worse kicker, a worse flush draw, and a lot of outs to hit a straight. The J♠ turn and 9♣ made a jack-high straight for MrMTucker, but they also made a king-high straight for Leukotape, who won the 9.35M-chip pot to close out the tournament.

MrMTucker collected $2,316.79 in bounties plus another $4,442.54 as the runner-up. And Leukotape, whose bounty went unearned by the rest of the table, locked up $2,765.78 in bounties plus $6,122.49 in prize money and a TCOOP title. Congratulations to both players for weathering a tough storm of a tournament!
