TCOOP 2017: luismi1912 denies Brazil another title and wins Event #37 Fat Tuesday

Last Spring, the online poker realm witnessed a Brazilian Storm. Our colleague Stephen Bartley used that surfing term to aptly describe the abundant wave of Brazilians that dominated the 2016 SCOOP.

Was it time for another Brazilian Storm? Brazilians got off to a hot start at the beginning of the 2017 TCOOP. On the first day, Brazilians won two of the first five events. Since then, Brazilians won no less than five events. Going into the start of TCOOP Event #37, Brazil and Sweden were tied for most TCOOP wins by a country this series. But Brazil would get two more shots at a title in the Fat Tuesday Special Edition.

Fifth place for Nacho in the Fat Tuesday

luismi1912 from Honduras went into the final table of Event #37 as the chip leader with a pair of Brazilians lurking about. When it got down to heads up, AcePheres from Brazil trailed 2-1 in chips against luismi1912. AcePheres was trying to thwart a wire-to-wire victory but could not mount a successful comeback attempt. luismi1912 did not meet much resistance at the final table, that also included three-time LAPT winner Nacho 'PokerLoans1' Barbero. Honduras' lusimi1912 became the newest TCOOP champion and walked away $89K richer for binking the Fat Tuesday.

2017 TCOOP Event #37 $320 NL was also the Fat Tuesday Special Edition. This "variable turbo" event attracted 2,102 total entries with 1,520 runners and 582 re-entries. They created a prize pool worth $630,600. The top 260 places paid out with a hefty chunk worth $94,170.85 initially set aside for first place.

In this variable turbo event, levels started at the standard 5 minutes. When the action reached Level 37, levels were bumped up a minute to 6 minutes (through Level 66). If the tournament was still running by Level 67, then they the level would get extended another minute and they would play seven minute levels from Level 67. This event never got that far.

Canada's vvirtue bubbled off the final table in tenth place when A♣9♥ lost to AcePheres's T♠T♦. Pocket tens held up and vvirtue was out in ninth place.
