TCOOP 2017: Robin "robinho" Ylitalo earns third TCOOP title in Fast Friday Event #14 ($320 NL Zoom)
Sweden's Robin "robinho" Ylitalo has won before on PokerStars. A lot. In fact, he made it to the winner's circle during last year's Turbo Championship of Online Poker series, winning a $700 NL event for an $85K payday, and that marked his second time winning a TCOOP title.
Ylitalo tonight added a third TCOOP title to his collection after winning Event #14, a $320 buy-in NL Zoom event for which he took away a first prize of just over $86K. That's more than he won for earning a silver spade last August at the European Poker Tour Barcelona series.
Ylitalo had to top a big 1,914-entry to win this one, that group building a $574,200 prize pool that bested the $500K guarantee.
It would take almost two hours and 45 minutes for the field to shrink to 242 players and the money bubble to burst, at which point 24kgilded had the chip lead and a couple of different red spades still appeared in the chip counts.
One of those red spades belonged to Team PokerStars Pro Jason "jcarverpoker" Somerville whose Twitch audience watched him last all of the way to an 85th-place finish, good for a $1,084.26 cash.
The other was next to George "Jorj95" Lind's name, and the Team PokerStars Pro Online member hung on near the bottom of the counts for a long while before finally busting in 19th for $2,530.15. That was after the tournament had reached three tables and switched over from the "Zoom" format to a standard multi-table tournament.
Following Lind's bust it was Rob "robtinnon" Tinnion going out in 18th, also earning $2,350.15. Next grigson1955 (17th), oswald187 (16th), Amadeus7777 (15th), and luetch1 (14th) were eliminated, each earning $3,486.54. gunnersfun (13th), bronzegod (12th), otitov (11th), and XG18X (10th) were then successively felted, with those four all earning $4,804.33.
Just over five hours into the tournament the final table was underway, with ChampiTOuTx the new chip leader.
Seat 1: Joris "BillLewinsky" Ruys (Netherlands) -- 1,012,609
Seat 2: sirvim (Brazil) -- 1,456,084
Seat 3: Robin "robinho" Ylitalo (Sweden) -- 1,697,670
Seat 4: Admiral19793 (Russia) -- 2,765,222
Seat 5: carambaWOW (Lithuania) -- 2,028,620
Seat 6: martine565 (Sweden) -- 1,484,970
Seat 7: stagggolf (Canada) -- 1,440,541
Seat 8: ChampiTOuTx (India) -- 3,707,596
Seat 9: shahter98 (Russia) -- 3,546,688
On the fifth hand of the final table, the blinds were 40,000/80,000 when Admiral19793 opened for 176,000 from the button and both martine565 (small blind) and stagggolf (big blind) called.
The flop came 3♠6♥5♠, and it checked to Admiral19793 who bet 256,300. martine565 stepped aside, but stagggolf check-raised all in for 1,214,541 and Admiral19793 called.
stagggolf had 8♠6♠ for a pair of sixes plus a flush draw while Admiral19793 had the better pair with K♥K♦. The turn was the 2♥ and river the 9♥, leaving stagggolf unimproved to finish ninth.
A half-dozen hands after that the blinds had kicked up to 50,000/100,000 when Joris "BillLewinsky" Ruys open-pushed all in for 1,012,609 from middle position with A♣J♥, then Admiral19793 reraise-shoved from the small blind to isolate with 8♣8♦.
The flop came 2♠K♠8♠ to give Admiral19793 a set of eights, and by the 9♦ turn card Ruys was already drawing dead to finish eighth.
A short while later a short-stacked sirvim open-raised from under the gun all in for 791,084 (a little over six-and-a-half big blinds), and it was Admiral19793 again reraise-shoving from a couple of seats over, although after having slipped to 811,069. martine565 then pushed all in for more than 4.9 million from the button and the blinds got out.
A runout of 5♦6♠J♠8♦Q♣ translated into a winning set of eights for Admiral19793 (again) to earn a triple-up while sirvim went out in seventh.
The knockouts kept coming, as shortly after that hand martine565 open-raised all in from the small blind and ChampiTOuTx called all in from the big blind for 1,884,596 (almost 12 BBs). ChampiTOuTx had A♦J♠ and the edge against martine565's Q♦8♠, but a board of 2♦3♣7♣8♦2♠ paired martine565 and ended ChampiTOuTx's run in sixth.
Just three hands later, shahter98 min-raised to 320,000 from the cutoff and carambaWOW called from the big blind. The flop fell Q♦8♣T♦, and after carambaWOW checked, shahter98 bet 410,000. carambaWOW then check-raised all in for 1,686,120 total and shahter98 called right away.
carambaWOW had K♦2♦ for a diamond flush draw while shahter98 had flopped two pair with Q♥T♣. The turn was the T♠ to make a full house for shahter98, meaning no river card could keep carambaWOW from finishing in fifth.
The final four played on, and soon Robin "robinho" Ylitalo was limping from the small blind, Admiral19793 checking from the big blind, and a flop came 2♦6♦4♣. Ylitalo bet 168,880 and Admiral19793 called, then after the 5♥ came on the turn Ylitalo checked. Admiral19793 bet 358,216 and Ylitalo called, then both watched the K♠ complete the board.
Ylitalo checked again, and Admiral19793 pushed all in 1,651,126. Ylitalo called in a flash, showing 8♦7♠ for a turned eight-high straight. Admiral19793 had a straight, too, with 9♣3♥, but only a six-high one, and Admiral19793 was out in fourth.
A little later martine565 had become short-stacked after losing a big hand to Ylitalo, then pushed all in from the small blind for 726,448 (about three big blinds) and shahter98 called from the next seat. martine565 had picked up 8♦8♠ but shahter98 had two overcards with J♠9♣, and the 5♣5♠A♣J♦T♦ board hit one of those overcards to stop martine565 in third.
After that hand Ylitalo had the chip edge to start heads-up play with 12,122,364 to shahter98's 7,017,636. Seven hands later the stacks hadn't changed too much when the following hand took place.
Ylitalo started things with a min-raise to 480,000 from the button, shahter98 reraised to 960,000, and Ylitalo called. The flop came 6♥5♦A♣ and shahter98 continued for 990,000, and Ylitalo called again. The turn then brought the 5♠ and a check from shahter98. Ylitalo fired a bet of 1,208,880 into the opening, then shahter98 check-raised all in for 5,787,636 and Ylitalo called.
shahter98: A♥4♥ -- aces and fives
robinho: 7♣5♣ -- trip fives
Ylitalo had the advantage, and after the Q♠ river had all of the chips, too, to become the Event #14 champion.
Congratulations to Robin "robinho" Ylitalo for topping more than 1,900 opponents to win another TCOOP and a handsome $86K-plus first prize.
