BREAKING: WCOOP main event winner to get at least $2 million
This just in from PokerStars HQ: The winner of this year's World Championship of Online Poker main event is guaranteed to win at least $2 million.
News of the record-breaking guarantee came just moments ago and will make this year's first prize the the largest for any online poker tournament anywhere in the world.
It's been just a few days since WCOOP got underway. Since then, eleven new WCOOP champions have emerged from a field that's claimed more than $11 million in prize money.
The 2010 WCOOP schedule expands on last year's series and features 62 individual events over 22 days. The $50 million in guaranteed prize money will be the biggest guaranteed total prize pool of any online tournament series ever.
This year's two-day main event kicks off on September 26 with a $5,200 buy-in.
Last year's WCOOP featured 45 events over 18 days and a combined prize pool of $51,652,800. The Main Event winner was Yevgeniy "Jovial Gent" Timoshenko, who walked away with a first prize of $1,715,200.
