WCOOP 2010: Enoezah earns victory, Raymer runs deep in Event #25, $215 Turbo PLO, 1R1A

wcoop2009-thumb.jpgSometimes, you just have to shove and pray. And sometimes in poker, that's all you want to do. Gambool. Take the coinflip. Use your one time chip, then use it again. As WCOOP nears its halfway point, it's about time we had a change of pace, and for a lot of weary grinders, playing turbo PLO is akin to a night in the club with a champagne IV and a bevy of Swedish supermodels when it comes to blowing off steam. You party hard, empty your wallet, and four hours later you wake up and wonder what the hell happened.

The 1,107-player field made 798 rebuys and 586 add-ons, sending the prize pool soaring over the $400,000 guarantee, topping out at $498,200. 144 places were paid with a first-place prize of $87,085.36. Representing the mighty red spade were Team PokerStars Pros Chris Moneymaker, Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Florian Langmann, Humberto Brenes, Johnny Lodden, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Andre Akkari and Pieter De Korver. Marcin Horecki (113th), Team Online's Jorge Arias (84th) and George Lind (42nd), and Matthias De Meulder (27th) all finished in the money, while Greg Raymer made the deepest run of the Team Pros, finishing in 13th place.

Raymer won a WCOOP bracelet two years ago, his victory coming in a $530 PLO rebuy event. Fossilman would have loved nothing more than to repeat history and put himself in a great position to do so. He hovered around the top of the pack for most of the tournament and with 58 players remaining, vaulted into the chip lead when he made an ace-high flush against bobbybagpipe's jack-high flush. When the field was down to the final two tables, Raymer re-potted all-in behind römpsä's 360,000 opening raise and got a call, his Q♥Q♦T♠7♠ up against K♠K♦T♦2♥. Römpsä flopped a set of kings and turned a full house, leaving Raymer on only 43,000 in chips. Raymer was all-in from the small blind with A♠Q♣J♠2♣ on the very next hand, römpsä picking up kings once again and making the call with A♦K♣K♠9♣. Römpsä flopped another set and rivered kings full, ending Raymer's WCOOP run in 13th place.

The final table was set when alpot went out in tenth place, his aces up falling to enoezah's Broadway straight. With the blinds at 100,000/200,000 and a 1.38 million average stack representing only seven big blinds, this one was going to move fast. Here's a look at how the final nine stacked up:

Seat 1: enoezah (1,956,171 in chips)
Seat 2: Godfatti (1,582,883 in chips)
Seat 3: LukDoesntPay (1,049,066 in chips)
Seat 4: Rabscuttle (1,115,780 in chips)
Seat 5: glight (468,509 in chips)
Seat 6: deannadd (1,513,684 in chips)
Seat 7: Svend sværd (1,032,442 in chips)
Seat 8: römpsä (2,573,830 in chips)
Seat 9: reunalla (1,162,635 in chips)

It only took four minutes before the final table claimed its first victim. Svend sværd got his last four big blinds in before the flop with K♠K♥8♣7♣, but deannadd hit trips with K♦Q♦J♥5♠ when the flop came down J♦J♣4♥. Although Svend sværd picked up a flush draw on the turn when the T♣ hit, the river blanked out with the 2♠ and he hit the rail, collecting $5,729.30 for his ninth-place finish.

Reunalla met his tournament end in brutal fashion, getting his money in with A♣A♠K♠9♥ against römpsä's K♦K♣5♥2♦. The poker gods brought römpsä a Q♥5♠2♣ flop, making him bottom two pair, snapping off reunalla's aces. The J♣ and the 6♥ on the turn and river were no help to reunalla and he had to settle for eighth place and a $9,964.00 payday.

Glight made a stand with A♦Q♠J♠2♦, but ran into enoezah's K♣K♦Q♥5♣. The pocket kings held on the T♥9♥6♦Q♣7♦ board, leaving glight crippled with only 52,865 in chips. However, glight got lucky on the very next hand, a three-way all-in that ended with Rabscuttle's seventh-place elimination.

Although glight quadrupled up to 211,000 by winning the main pot, he was eliminated on the next hand. With 150,000 already committed in the small blind, glight took his T♣8♥5♣5♦ up against deannadd's A♦K♦9♠4♠. Glight was drawing extremely thin on the A♣7♦6♦ flop, the turn and river falling the 2♦ and the J♥ to send him home in sixth place.

It took only fifteen minutes to narrow the field from nine to five, and less than ninety seconds to take it from five to three. Two hands after glight's elimination, römpsä committed the last of his chips before the flop with A♠Q♥8♣3♦ and enoezah looked him up with A♦K♠K♦9♠. The kings held on the T♦4♦3♥4♥J♥ board and römpsä exited in fifth place, earning $24,910.

Godfatti shipped his last three big blinds in on the very next deal with A♥A♣5♦3♠ and deannadd made the call with A♠K♦Q♠2♣. Although Godfatti's aces still led on the J♥T♣8♠ flop, deannadd picked up a wrap draw. The Q♦ on the turn made deannadd a Broadway straight and the 5♠ spelled Godfatti's tournament end, his consolation prize $35,372,20 for fourth place.

When play turned three-handed, enoezah, LukDoesntPay and deannadd paused the action to take a look at chip count chop numbers, but could not come to an agreement. Cards went back on the screen and three minutes later, LukDoesntPay shipped his stack in with T♦T♠5♣4♣. Enoezah called with K♣T♣9♠8♥. The 3♠2♣2♥ flop was not too shabby at all for LukDoesntPay, who added an open-ended straight draw to go with his overpair. The turn was the 8♠, pairing enoezah, but LukDoesntPay's tens still led. The K♠, however, spiked on the river, and LukDoesntPay was eliminated in third place, collecting $47,329.

As heads-up play commenced, enoezah held a 4-1 chip lead over deannadd:

Seat 1: enoezah (9,902,882 in chips)
Seat 6: deannadd (2,552,118 in chips)

It only took two hands for all the chips to end up in the middle. With the blinds at 200,000/400,000, enoezah raised to 1.2 million on the button and deannadd called from the big blind. Deannadd moved all-in for 1,152,118 on the K♥9♠2♠ flop and enoezah called, turning up A♠A♦J♣3♠ for an overpair. Deannadd showed A♣Q♦8♥2♣ for bottom pair. The 4♦ on the turn was no help to deannadd and neither was the 9♥ on the river, enoezah raking in the pot with aces and nines to seal up his WCOOP title. For the win, he earned $87,085.36 while runner-up deannadd received $63,271.40.
