WCOOP 2011: 2FLY2TILT leads Player of the Series race
Anybody can set a goal. Fewer people have the discipline to see that goal to its end. Even fewer people have both the discipline and the ability. Joel Adam Gordon sits among that small subset of people who have the foresight, drive, and knowhow to get it all done.
As you might have read last week, Gordon (better known as 2FLY2TILT on PokerStars) won his first WCOOP bracelet in 2009. In 2010, he sat out WCOOP so he could focus on making Supernova Elite (which he achieved, by the way). In 2011, Gordon set his newest goal: to finish in the top ten of the WCOOP Player of the Series leaderboard. Now, the first week of the three-week series is in the books, and Gordon leads the pack with two weeks to go.
In the first week of the 2011 WCOOP, Gordon won another WCOOP bracelet in Event #8 (Triple Stud). Since then, he's posted a 16th place finish in Event #13 (PL Omaha H/L) and a sixth place finish in Event #17 (NL Single Draw 2-7). Those finishes have earned him 160 points in the WCOOP Player of the Series race, 45 points ahead of the five people who currently share second place.
Gordon had hoped he might be able to be the second person to win three WCOOP bracelets. He missed out on that chance when PokerStars Team Online's Anders Berg nailed his third title. It happened in Event #16, the $215 PLO event late last week. Not surprisingly, Berg is among the five people in second place. He shares the spot with extasyman, ImaLucSac, MONSTER_DONG, and Olkku who all have 115 points in the Player of Series race.
While the battle looks to be a good one, only 20 events are in the books so far, and if Gordon wants to stay in the top ten for the next two weeks, he's going to have to put up some good numbers over the next 40 events.
