Blink and you'll miss it. That's what PokerStars WCOOP Event #45 was about, a $265 no-limit hold'em turbo tournament. Throw in a $50 bounty on every player you knock out and you're not going to see a lot of timid play. A field of 3,436 entrants created a prize pool of $687,200, with a six-figure score awaiting the winner. Players not fortunate enough to win would be happy to be among the 432 that made the money, or hoping to earn a bounty or two along the way. The final table looked to be locked up for vongericke, but three-handed it went the wrong way. Final table chip leader ChernyAV picked up the slack and picked up the final three bounties, including his own to take down the top prize of almost $108,000.

Combining a fast-paced structure with money for knocking out a player brought out several Team Poker Stars and PokerStars Team Online players to the virtual felt, looking for a hefty payday. Members of Team PokerStars Pro earning their keep were Netherlands Team Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo (below) (73rd), Greece Team Challenger Stavros "IDOLLS" Kalfas (122nd), UK and Ireland Team Pro Liv Boeree (221st) and Romania Team Pro Toni Jude (270th).

Three members of Team Online also earned a WCOOP cash: Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen (377th) Andre "acoimbra" Coimbra (411th) and Kevin "WizardOfAhhs" Thurman (421st)

Ten players remained when hand-for-hand play began and with the average stack just over 17 big blinds, it wouldn't be long before we had the official final table. In fact, it lasted just one hand. The blinds were at 50,000/100,000 with an ante of 12,500 as m4gm4n shoved for 1,121,117 from UTG +1 with K♠J♦. Action folded around to the big blind as ChernyAV called with 6♥6♣ and the race was on. The board ran out 9♣ 3♠ 4♦ Q♦ 9♥ as ChernyAV's pocket pair held up as m4gm4n final table bubbled, cashing for $4,295 establishing the final table, seated as follows:

Final table chip counts:

Seat 1: dev209 (1,043,833 in chips)
Seat 2: inductive (1,411,937 in chips)
Seat 3: collins3 (1,558,140 in chips)
Seat 4: joejoe1337 (1,245,881 in chips)
Seat 5: PUCIPUCO (3,940,652 in chips)
Seat 6: ChernyAV (4,241,256 in chips)
Seat 7: vongericke (2,189,815 in chips)
Seat 8: Sajanas171 (809,809 in chips)
Seat 9: Kenny "SpaceyFCB" Hallaert (738,677 in chips)

The difference between a first and ninth place payout at the final table was over $100,000, so a bit of patience could pay off for a short-stacked player. A recurring theme at the final table was if you had the best hand in an all-in confrontation, you weren't going to win. The first two levels at the final table saw no players eliminated, but anyone watching knew it was a matter of time. Blinds had climbed to 70,000/140,000 with an ante of 17,500 as inductive was down to just under 600,000 in chips as the action folded around, finding A♣8♣ in the cutoff a good spot to move in their stack. PUCIPUCO, at their third final table in this year's WCOOP, called from the big blind with 9♣3♣. The flop came 9♦6♦4♦ to take the lead. The turn brought the 2♦ to give inductive nine outs to a chop, but the 5♥ on the river improved PUCIPUCO to a straight, more than enough to collect the bounty of inductive as they earned $5,497.60 for their ninth place finish.

Each level lasted just five minutes, but a flurry of eliminations occurred with blinds at 80,000/160,000 with an ante of 20,000, to bring the field down to five. Eighth place for $8,933.60 went to dev209 as their 2♦2♥ fell to joejoe1337's A♥T♦. Joejoe1337 open-shoved from UTG +1 as dev2009 called from the big blind. The board ran out 5♣ A♠ 9♣ Q♠ T♥ for the first knockout of the level.

It was now vongericke's turn to shine, going from fifth of seven to leading the final table. On the next hand after dev209's elimination, vongericke min-raised as Sajanas171 re-raised all-in for 894,618 as vongericke called. Sajanas171 held the lead preflop with 6♣6♠ as vongericke held A♦9♠. Being behind didn't matter as the board runs out T♥ 4♠ 3♠ 9♦ 3♦ as vongericke picked up a bounty as Sajanas171 is consoled with earning a five-figure payday of $15,805.60.

Two hands later, vongericke picked up another bounty with a come from behind victory over collins3, as the UK player cashed for $22,677.60 in sixth place. Once again vongericke opened with a minraise as collins3 moved in for 1,183,140 holding A♥Q♠ to the German calling with K♦T♣. Both made a pair on the 9♠ T♠ A♠ flop, but vongericke moved into the lead on the turn when the K♣ appeared. The river was the T♥ to make a full house as five remained.

The final table didn't feature many hands played down to the river without a player going all-in, so here's a hand that vongericke won to take the lead right after eliminating collins3:

The bounties piled up for vongericke as joejoe1337 was the next victim, earning fifth place winnings of $29,549.60. The blinds were now at 100,000/200,000 with the ante at 25,000 as joejoe1337 shoved for just over 1,500,000 from the button with A♣K♦. Apparently riding the heater as long as they could, vongericke called from the big blind with A♠6♠. It shouldn't have been a surprise that the flop came down 6♣ 9♥ 6♥, already giving vongericke another $50. The turn and river for the record were the 9♠T♥, extending vongericke's lead.

Vongericke would also take out Kenny "SpaceyCFB" Hallaert in fourth, as the Belgian pro earns $39,514.00. From the small blind vongericke shoved with K♦Q♥ as Hallaert calls from the big blind with a dominated Q♦J♦. The board was of no help: 9♥ 3♥ 9♣ 6♦ T♥ leaving three players remaining and vongericke holding over two-thirds of the chips.

The tournament was over ten hands later, but it wasn't vongericke earning the coveted WCOOP bracelet. ChernyAV doubled through vongericke on the next hand to establish second position, then it was PUCIPUCO's turn to double through the chip leader when their A♣2♠ beat vongericke's T♥T♦ when an ace appeared on the flop. Vongericke was now in third, as the two chip leaders decided to tangle in the biggest pot of the tournament. The blinds were now up to 125,000/250,000 and an ante of 37,500 as PUCIPUCO three-bet shoved as ChernyAV called. Here's how the hand played out:

PUCIPUCO earns $57,051.34 for third place as ChernyAV holds a 4-1 chip lead heads-up.

Vongericke would win the first hand of heads-up play, but ChernyAV won the next two to end the tournament as the tournament ended in 4:20. From the small blind, vongericke raised to 625,000 as ChernyAV three-bet to 1,937,500. Vongericke four-bet shoved for just over 3,000,000 chips total with 4♥4♦ as ChernyAV decided to flop for the tournament with A♥J♥. The flop was A♦5♠2♦ to give ChernyAV the lead as vongericke was down to six outs. The K♦ turn gave vongericke an additional eight outs for a flush, but the T♠ on the river was not what the card needed giving ChernyAV the victory, claiming the bounty of vongericke as well as their own but more importantly picking up a cool $107,890.98 as Russia earns another WCOOP title, keeping German players off the tally sheet once again but vongericke may care more about the notice they get from the PokerStars cashier notifying them of the $80,402.40 runner-up winnings.
