WCOOP 2012: Brenes, Selbst, Boeree and Danzer deep in Day 2

wcoop2009-thumb.jpgTwo big money WCOOP tournaments were paused overnight with the 127 remaining in WCOOP-44 ($2,100 NL Hold'em, $1.25m gtd) and 115 in WCOOP-42 ($215 NL Hold'em, $1m gtd) all well into the money.

The 1,387 runner field that lined up for WCOOP-44 more than doubled its guarantee with a $2,774,000 prize pool attracting some of the world's biggest and best tournament players along the way. Many of those players are still in fighting for the bracelet and its $453,396 first place prize going into Day 2.

While 'hateraises' may be the overnight chip leader (601,188) there'll be plenty looking over their shoulders with the likes of Team PokerStars Pro Humberto Brenes (294,317), high stakes cash game phenomenon 'EireAbu' (289,602) and Chris 'd0r1t0s' McClung (294,317) all well equipped with above an average stack and chasing hard.

Other players still in the tussle include Jim 'Mr_BigQueso' Collopy (172,720) who has already scored two final tables this series, Dylan 'Imalucsac' Linde (149,987), and Team PokerStars Pros Vanessa Selbst (139,162) and Liv Boeree (132,922). Fellow EPT champions in the mix are Frederik 'Fred_Brink' Jensen (135,634) and Rupert 'ElRupert' Elder (76,578).

Elder is one of the many players that will be looking to double sooner rather than later. The blinds next move up to 2,000-4,000, which will leave Elder with around 20 big blinds. Joining him is Shaun 'shaundeeb' Deeb (72,913) and one of WCOOP 2012's outstanding performers, Team PokerStars Pro George Danzer, on (49,295). Given the 30-minute blind structure a solitary double-up can buy you quite a lot of breathing space.

A special mention should go to Marc-Andre 'FrenchDawg' Ladouceur, who is well stacked in both two-day events. He has an above average stack of 182,405 in WCOOP-44 and is fifth in chips in the $215 WCOOP-42. As well as scoring a very deep run in this year's WSOP main event he recently finished runner-up to Terj Augdal in the €10,300 Heads Up Championship at EPT Barcelona.
