WCOOP 2012: Katchalov, Kelly, Danzer, Barshak and Hansen's WCOOP TLB battle

wcoop2009-thumb.jpgEugene Katchalov, George Danzer, Dan Kelly, Steve Barshak and Thor Hansen are among the big name players contesting this year's WCOOP leader board. There may be glory aplenty with the title and trophy but there's also the not-so-small matter of the champions package; 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) package, 2013 EPT Grand Final package, 2013 TCOOP Main Event ticket and custom chip set.

The player they're all chasing is Norwegian mikal12345 who this year has taken down two pot-limit Omaha events helping to stack up 325 points, just five points ahead of Team PokerStars Pro Danzer. The pair are some way ahead of Kelly, Barshak and the field but a single large score would propel any of the chasing pack onto the podium, but with just 18 of the 65 events remaining they'll have to take their opportunities.

There are some incredible prizes up for grabs - PCA and EPT Grand Final packages for the top two, TCOOP main event seats for the runners up - as last year's leader board winner Joel-Adam '2FLY2TILT' Gordon can attest. He'll be needing to final table WCOOP 48 & 49 if he's to stand any chance of repeating that feat. He's already registered to play those two tournaments (which you can find by clicking Events >> WCOOP >> Main Events on the PokerStars lobby.

Thor 'osten' Hansen

There are still plenty more points up for grabs with three more WCOOP tournaments starting today. One other, WCOOP-46: $320 Hold'em (2x chance), started yesterday and crowns one of the remaining 22 players later this afternoon. dsnka leads with a 1,931,770 stack at the 6,000-12,000 level while Stephane 'FouTight' Bisson is the short stack looking to double with 197,100. The $139,104 first place prize is quite an incentive to win an early flip when the Day 2 cards are dealt at 14:00 ET.

Sat in seventh position with 738,749, which is just above average, is Jackie 'Peacefulme07' Cassells who just so happens to be a house mate of Steve 'Illini213' Barshak who last week who a WCOOP bracelet of his own for $225,490. Can they do a house double?

Today's starting events (all times in ET)
11:00: WCOOP-48 $320 mixed NL Hold'em/PLO, $200,000 guaranteed
14:00: WCOOP-49 $530 Razz, $100,000 guaranteed
