WCOOP begins with guarantee-smashing fields

wcoop2009-thumb.jpgDid you feel all aquiver yesterday and not know why? Were you confused about the butterflies fluttering in the pit of your stomach unaware of any discernible cause for them? Don't worry, we can explain it. WCOOP 2012 kicked off yesterday on PokerStars, the high point of the annual online poker calendar, and it began with two guarantee-breaking fields.

The first two events of WCOOP 2012 began yesterday and played down from 7,322 to 64 in WCOOP-01 ($215 NL Hold'em 6-max) and 10,608 to 133 in WCOOP-02 ($215 NL Hold'em). Both will play to completion and a big money bracelet winner today. Among those in the running for WCOOP-01 are chip leader Svaeren (3,600,690) and Jim 'Mr_BigQueso' Collopy (1,715,862 - 11th), Clayton 'slammedfire' Mozdzen (968,965 - 35th) and Marc-Andre 'FrenchDawg' Ladocouceur (253,967 - 62nd), who recently finished runner-up to Terje Augdal in the EPT9 €10,000 Heads Up Championships.

The remaining 64 are guaranteed a minimum pay day of $2,489.48 while the final table players will get a shot at the $219,663.48 first place prize. PokerStars sponsored players that made the money include Johnny Lodden ($644.33, 272nd), Grzegorz 'DaWarsaw' Mikielewicz ($615.04, 280th), Christian 'el grillo' De Leon ($453.96, 541st) and Marcin 'Goral' Horecki ($410.03, 712nd).

WCOOP-02 had the larger guarantee of $1,500,000 but smashed that with a $2,121,600 prize pool setting up a $302,969.34 first place pay out for one of the remaining 133 players. Team PokerStars Pro Sandra Naujoks may be that player but will need to spin her 241,256 stack up out of 118th position. It's around 12 big blinds so there's certainly no reason why a double or two could come here way. Fellow team members that didn't get the double that they needed include Victor Ramdin ($784.99, 344th) and Mickey 'mement_mori' Petersen ($530.40, 760th) and Humberto Brenes ($381.88, 1,207th). M_MMuerte currently leads the field with 4,182,835.

This is an online festival that every poker player has to get involved in. How can you turn down 65 events and a combined guaranteed prize pool of $30,000,000. Qualifiers are running all day, every day so there's no reason why anyone with a smaller bankroller can't take a couple of choice shots at qualifier into a bracelet event.
