PokerStars weekend review (September 23, 2013)

The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is entering its final week with two massive tournaments on overnight hiatus. Before we divulge the huge names chasing down a $480,101 pay day, we should congratulate Vanessa Selbst who this weekend finished runner-up to Anthony Zinno in the Borgata Poker Open for $492,569. That takes her 2013 winnings to an incredible $2,311,407 and puts her annual take 'just' half-a-million dollars behind her record 2010 year. She grossed $2.85m that year, no little thanks to her NAPT Mohegan Sun victory ($750,000). EPT London and Prague are still yet to play out giving Selbst a chance to become the first female player to break $3m live tournament winnings in a single year. Her career live winnings currently stand at $7,891,023, almost $2m ahead of Kathy Liebert, her closest rival on the women's all-time money list. In fact, Selbst wasn't the only Team Pro collecting a runner-up result this weekend. George Danzer took second and $156,648.47 in WCOOP-40 narrowly failing to beat EPT Loutraki champion Zimnan "ZIMMY86" Ziyard to , which you can read about here.

Vanessa Selbst: PCA 10 High Roller winner

WCOOP prize pool so far: $37,694,049

There's been $37.7m paid out so far, or rather there will be. Two big tournaments paused overnight with huge money to be dished out (and you can check a lot of this weekend's payouts by clicking here).

WCOOP-45: $2,100 NLHE, $2m guaranteed
As expected, this big $2k event brought out all the names and with 164 of the 1,437 starting field remaining there's still plenty left in. Finnish player bustoville leads the field with a hefty 494,600 (average 131,400) while another 'busto' player follows in third, Johan 'busto_soon' van Til. The Dutchman's cash in this event will almost certainly take him through the $5m mark in online tournament cashes. There are almost too many names to mention; Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden, Elky, Randy "nanonoko" Lew and Lex Veldhuis sit alongside pros such as EPT champs Kevin "KevBoyStar" Stani and Mike "Timex" McDonald, Kevin "Stammdogg" Stammen, Faraz "TheToilet-0" Jaka, Brynn Kenney, Marc " Frenchdawg" Ladouceur, Randal "RandALLin" Flowers, Kenny "SpaceyFCB" Hallaert and Steven "Zugwat" Silverman. If you want to improve your game then you really should rail some of this action. First place pays $480,101.

Play resumes at 14:30 ET.

WCOOP-43: $215 NLHE, $1m guaranteed
There are 111 players remaining from a starting field of 8,313 with $1,363 locked up. A $1,150 profit is welcome but with a first prize of $249,394 there'll be some fierce poker play when the action resumes. Team PokerStars Pro Christophe De Meulder is among those left in. He's above average with 901,700 and will be looking to go further than EPT Barcelona earlier this month where 36th place (€21,440) was close but no cigar. Australian Toby585 leads the field with 2,167,706 but as a player with no previous form of note on PokerStars it's hard to say how far they'll go.

Play resumes at 11:00am ET.
