WCOOP 2013: Jonathan "Iftarii" Jaffe joins the two WCOOP club
Jonathan "Iftarii" Jaffe is one of an elite crew of poker players that holds two WCOOP titles, which stands at 19 names strong and counting. Among those is Team PokerStars Pros Jason Mercier, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and George Danzer, COOP king Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb, Dan "djk123" Kelly and Anders "Donald" Berg.
Jaffe joined that club in unmistakeable fashion by winning a huge WCOOP edition of the Sunday Million to coin in $251,673, the largest online score of his PokerStars career. You can read how he went about winning that final table by reading this write-up courtesy of Stephen Bartley.
Jaffe is not an unknown face to us in the real world. He's cashed at the PCA, the WSOP, got a big runner-up WPT payday and made the final table when Mercier completed that back-to-back defence of the NAPT Mohegan Sun Bounty Shootout, which you can read about here or watch in full below. If you've ever heard that Jaffe is the son of Micah Raskin (unlikely as that may be) then zipping through to 18.25 of the final table coverage would explain it.
Jaffe is a long term grinder who's been playing for approaching a decade and would be more than happy aims to be saying that he can double that.
"My only goal in poker is just to be playing in some capacity 10 years from now," he said.
That working ethic can't really be knocked. Some players will grind through that kind of barrier, others will crash headlong into it doing themselves and their bankroll no little damage. Jaffe's approach seems more measured.
"I just only play when I am having fun, and if I find the game more tedious than enjoyable I take a break," explained Jaffe.
Good plan, sir, and considering you just binked quarter-of-a-million dollars it seems to be a fruitful one.
