WCOOP 2013: Kenney and Batista battle for the big bucks as Grundy takes his maiden COOP
The last 24 hours have provided some vintage WCOOP action. There were a couple of large two-day tournaments to finish off, one of which almost featured far-from-best-of-friends Brynn Kenney and Chad "lilholdem954" Batista getting heads-up for the big bucks, while Ben "milkybarkid" Grundy also won his first COOP title.
WCOOP 2013 prize pool (up to and including Event #48): $39,642,877
One of the biggest tournaments of the WCOOP calendar played out overnight in Event #45 ($2,100 NLHE) with UK player paphiti pipping Kenney and Batista to the $480,101 title. There were 164 players that returned for Day 2 of the event from a starting field of 1,437, among which were many of the best players in the world, and Kenney, a regular High Roller player, almost took it down to add to the SCOOP title he won back in 2010.
Kenney was leading paphiti heads up but then twice hit top-top to his detriment, both times finding himself cold-decked by paphiti who flopped two-pair in the first instance and turned trips in the second. Kenny went from chip leader to bust across those two coups but still collected a huge $350,628. Batista had to make do with $264,408 for his podium finish. Among the big names to come close were Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden (14th, $19,112), Mike "Timex" McDonald (18th, $13,795), Team PokerStars Online's Randy "nanonoko" Lew (27th, $11,496) and Steven "Zugwat" Silverman (29th, $10,059).

As mentioned, British Omaha specialist Grundy pocketed his first COOP title after a three-way chop which saw him collect $41,870. WCOOP Leader Board hero -Rebus1980- finished fourth ($21,201) to bag another 60 points in the Player of the Series race. The Russian player is sat pretty with 390 points, which is 110 ahead of their closest rival, Sykoen of Norway. The Player of the Series wins a Champion's trophy, 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) package, 2014 TCOOP Main Event ticket, 2014 SCOOP Main Event (H) ticket, and 2014 WCOOP Main Event ticket. I think it's safe to assume that -Rebus1908- will be playing the rest of the events to stay ahead of the curve.
