WCOOP 2013: milkybarkid tastes sweet victory in Event #46 ($320 PL 5-Card Omaha [6-Max, 1R1A])

Back in 2006, when Isildur1 was just a Swedish high-school student and Jamie Gold was the World Champion, Ben "milkybarkid" Grundy came tantalizingly close to a WCOOP title. He made the final table of the Main Event, but lost out on the bracelet when he busted in eighth place. Current WSOP November Niner J.C. Tran won that event, while Grundy went on to become one of the most feared high-stakes PLO players in the world. It took seven years, but tonight Grundy got another chance at WCOOP gold. However, standing in his way was the man currently leading the WCOOP Player of the Series race. Russia's -Rebus1980- won Event #7 ($215 NL 5-Card Draw) and this marked his third final table of the 2013 WCOOP, having also made the final table of Event #36 ($320 2-7 Triple Draw). With a win -Rebus1980- would have a stranglehold on the TLB and a 150-point lead over second place. This one, however, belonged to milkybarkid, who played a masterful heads-up match with Eversti78 and overcame a 2 to 1 chip defecit to win his first WCOOP title.

Ben Grundy

462 players bought in to Event #46 and made 281 rebuys and 212 add-ons to push the prizepool up to $286,500. 60 spots were paid with first place set to earn $55,437.75. Seven Team Pros joined the field, including Chad Brown,Mikhail "innerpsy" Shalamov, Roy "GodlikeRoy" Bhasin, Johnny Lodden, Martin Hruby, Marcel Luske, and George Danzer. Unfortunately, none of them finished in the money.

With the field down to seven players, railbirds were treated with a gobsmacker of a final table bubble hand. Alexo18 led off the action with a min-raise to 20,000 on the button and both UziStuNNA and Eversti78 called from the blinds. The flop fell 6♥6♠3♥ and the action checked to alexo18, who bet 32,750. UziStuNNa folded, but Eversti78 came in for a raise to 67,792. Alexo18 called and the A♦ hit the turn. Eversti78 led out for 97,879 and alexo18 called. The river was the 3♠ and Eversti78 made it 137,977 to go. Alexo18 moved all-in for 500,160 and Eversti78 called, having him covered.

The hands?

Alexo18 revealed A♠3♣3♦4♥9♠, having flopped threes full and improved to quad threes on the river. However, Eversti78 turned up 5♠5♥6♦6♣8♣-- flopped quad sixes! A gutted alexo18 bubbled off the final table while Eversti topped 2 million in chips.

Seat 4: ninototoroko (304,587 in chips)

Seat 6: -Rebus1980- (1,168,726 in chips)

UziStuNNa heats up, USoGotPwned busts

Second-in-chips -Rebus1980- suffered a setback when he doubled up UziStuNNa. The money went in on an A♠T♥3♥ flop, UziStuNNa holding A♥A♦4♦4♣7♦ for top set while -Rebus1980- showed A♣8♦J♦Q♠K♠for a wrap draw. The turn and river fell the 6♠ and the 8♣, UziStuNNa's set good for a double-up to 518,000.

UziStuNNa kept up the aggression, inciting a raising war on a 7♦5♦5♥ flop. UziStuNNa check-raised to 64,455 only to have Eversti78 fire back with a three-bet to 129,757. UziStuNNa four-bet to 449,271 and Eversti78 gave up his hand, UziStuNNa rakingin the 320,000 pot.

Blinds were still 6,000/12,000 when USoGotPwned opened for a min-raise and UziStuNNa three-bet to 78,000. They went heads-up to a 9♦6♥4♠ flop and UziStuNNa made a 162,000 c-bet. USoGotPwned shoved and UziStuNNa called the small balance with A♣A♥2♦4♥8♦. USoGotPwned turned up A♠6♣9♠T♣J♥ for top pair. UziStuNNa's overpair held through the 8♥ turn, then improved to top set when the A♦ came on the river. UziStuNNa moved up to 969,000 while USoGotPwned hit the rail in sixth place, earning $9,741.00

ninototoroko falls to Eversti78

-Rebus1980- continued to lose ground, falling below 700,000 when Eversti78 pushed him off a K♣T♣7♦5♣ board with a check-rase. Now up to 1.77 million, Eversti78 had a 700,000-chip lead over second-place milkybarkid.

Down to 500,000, nintotoroko got the rest of his chips in the middle on a J♦6♦5♠ flop vs. Eversti78. Ninototoroko's J♥J♣T♦9♥3♣ had flopped top set while Eversti78 was on a straight draw with A♦2♠3♦4♠K♥. The Q♣ turned, keeping ninototoroko safe, but the river 3♥ made Eversti78 a six-high straight. Ninototoroko was out in fifth place, collecting $15,184.50 for his run.

UziStuNNa cripples -Rebus1980-, milkybarkid finishes the job

After a fast start to the final table, UziStuNNa had since cooled off, his stack falling to 684,000. Then, with the blinds up to 10,000/20,000, -Rebus1980- opened for a min-raise from UTG and UziStuNNA called from the big blind. The flop came down 9♥6♣3♥ and UziStuNNa check-called -Rebus1980-'s 30,000 c-bet. The turn was the J♣ and UziStuNNa checked again. -Rebus1980- bet 90,000, UziStuNNa raised to 420,000 and -Rebus1980- shoved for 710,000. UziStuNNa called.

UziStuNNa K♣K♦Q♥Q♠5♣ (pair of kings, gutshot straight draw, king-high flush draw)
-Rebus1980- A♠8♠9♣T♣J♦ (two pair jacks and nines, straight draw, flush draw)

The river T♦ completed UziStuNNa's king-high straight and -Rebus1980- was left with only 96,000 in chips. Although -Rebus1980- doubled up twice in the next five minutes to rebound to 18 big blinds, he couldn't make it three for three. Milkybarkid opened for 40,000 from UTG and with 315,000 behind, -Rebus1980- three-bet to 140,000. Milkybarkid called and the flop fell A♥J♦T♦ -Rebus1980- bet his remaining 174,636 and milkybarkid called, his Broadway straight up against -Rebus1980-'s set of aces.

-Rebus1980- A♠A♦4♠T♣K♥
milkybarkid A♣2♠3♠Q♣K♦

-Rebus1980- needed to pair the board, but the turn and river came the 6♣ and the 4♦ instead, ending his run in fourth place ($21,201.00).

LOL ICMaments

As play turned three-handed, everyone agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here's how they stacked up at the time:

Seat 1: Eversti78 (2,809,545 in chips)
Seat 2: milkybarkid (878,821 in chips)
Seat 3: UziStuNNa (1,086,634 in chips)

Eversti78, milkybarkid and UziStuNNa quickly agreed to an ICM deal that left $4,000 in play for the winner. Big stack Eversti78 was now guaranteed $46,099.17, UziStuNNa $39,380.06, and milkybarkid $37,870.02.

Milkybarkid mows down UziStuNNa

When action resumed, milkybarkid quickly took a chunk off UziStuNNa's stack by pushing him off a 7♠6♦3♥ flop in a pot that was four-bet preflop. Then, on the next deal, they went to war again, milkybarkid opening for 50,000 and UziStuNNa three-betting to 175,000. Milkybarkid four-bet to 375,000 and UziStuNNa called all-in, his A♠5♣7♠8♣J♦ up against A♦A♣2♠9♦T♥. Milkybarkid flopped straight and flush draws, turned a set of aces and rivered the nut flush, the board running out Q♦J♣3♦A♥T♦ to eliminate UziStuNNa in third place ($39,380.06).

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 1: Eversti78 (3,241,841 in chips)
Seat 2: milkybarkid (1,533,159 in chips)

At more than a 2 to 1 chip disadvantage, milkybarkid had his work cut out for him. After a fifteen-minute stretch of trading small pots, milkybarkid finally got some traction when he called Eversti78 down with trips and a flush draw, improving to deuces full on the river. The 583,000 pot pushed milkybarkid up to 1.91 million in chips.

Soon after, milkybarkid and three-bettor Eversti78 saw a T♠4♣3♦ flop for 180,000 apiece. Eversti78 led out for 197,587, milkybarkid raised, and the rest of his money went in. Eversti78 had only a pair of aces with A♣A♥6♠9♣Q♦ while milkybarkid flopped a set of fours with 4♥4♠8♠8♦8♣. The turn and river fell the Q♣ and the 2♥, and milkybarkid doubled to 3.85 million, leaving Eversti78 on 925,000.

Eversti78 came back a short time later, pushing milkybarkid off a A♥9♦8♦ flop with a three-bet shove. Eversti78 moved up to 1.56 million in chips, but only moments later, milkybarkid led off another raising war with a flopped set. Eversti78 committed the rest of his chips with a combination draw, but milkybarkid paired the board on the turn to close out the win with sixes full.

Congratulations to Ben "milkybarkid" Grundy, who mounted a stunning heads-up comeback to win his first WCOOP bracelet. He banked $41,870.02 for the win. However, thanks to the three-way deal, runner-up Eversti78 earned the largest share of the prize pool at $46,099.17-- an excellent consolation prize if there ever was one.
