WCOOP 2013: Philych_085 fills account with $33K after Event #50 win ($530 Razz)
In the COOPs and MicroMillions series on PokerStars, the razz events tend to draw smaller fields, although especially the higher buy-in razz tourneys often bring out many of online poker's best. Such was true of Event #50 of this year's WCOOP, a $530 buy-in razz event that had recognizable names up and down the leaderboard throughout. In the end it was Philych_085 of Belarus outlasting a tough field to win the 50th WCOOP bracelet of 2013, earning a nifty $33,013.91 payday for the effort.
There were 343 entrants in this one, enough to build a $171,500 prize pool and bust yet another WCOOP guarantee (in this case $100K) with the top 48 entrants making the money.
After four hours exactly 200 were left, with nebo_blizko of the Ukraine on top. About an hour and 15 minutes after that they were down to 100 players with Portugal's DaliaAllin in front and nebo_blizko still near the top of the leaderboard.
One more hour passed and the money bubble finally burst, and with 48 left the Russian nemisoi had snuck past DaliaAllin into the lead. Meanwhile a couple of Team PokerStars Pros were still alive as well, with Eugene Katchalov just inside the top 10 and George Danzer just outside the top 20.
The field continued to shrink over the next hour with Jon "PearlJammer" Turner (41st, $814.62), Andrey "Kroko-dill" Zaichenko (35th, $986.12), Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick (30th, $1,157.62), and Chris "SLOPPYKLOD" Klodnicki (27th, $1,157.62) among the eliminated.
Katchalov slipped to short-stacked status over that stretch, soon found himself all in by fourth street versus two opponents. The Team PokerStars Pro then drew queens on both fifth and sixth streets while Philych_085 drew to a 7-low to win the hand, sending Katchalov railward in 26th ($1,157.62).
An hour later 10 more had fallen -- among them Chris "ImDaNuts" Oliver (24th, $1,672.12) -- while George Danzer saw his stack become depleted to the point that a hand arose in which he was all in by fourth street versus N0b0dy. Danzer ultimately couldn't draw better than a K-low while N0b0dy finished with a 6-5-3-2-A to send the last Team PokerStars Pro out in 16th.
Tommie "Godfatti" Janssen (15th), Shawn "buck21" Buchanan (14th), and Peter "Apathy123" Jetten (13th) next went, all like Danzer earning $2,315 for their finishes, then Clayton "slammedfire" Mozdzen (12th), N0b0dy (11th), INSHALA82 (10th), and OLeG______JT (9th) went out over the next hour, all picking up $3,001.25 as the field was reduced to just eight.
With DaliaAllin leading and a few other familiar usernames still with chips, the final table was underway.
Seat 1: dumBBass86 (Russia) -- 73,284
Seat 2: Phil "MrSweets28" Galfond (Canada) -- 417,104
Seat 3: Philych_085 (Belarus) -- 393,084
Seat 4: Tygem (Finland) -- 421,360
Seat 5: Ami "UhhMee" Barer (Canada) -- 97,692
Seat 6: DaliaAllin (Portugal) -- 759,400
Seat 7: nebo_blizko (Ukraine) -- 331,648
Seat 8: römpsä (Finland) -- 78,928
On just the third hand of the final table, the stakes were 20,000/40,000 when dumBBass86 and Tygem raised back and forth on third street until dumBBass86 was all in for 65,284 total. dumBBass86 had an [A] up and Tygem a , and their hole cards were revealed to show dumBBass86 starting ()() / [A] to Tygem's ()() / .
dumBBass86 ended up drawing out [A][Q] / () to wind up with a Q-6-5-4-A, not enough as Tygem picked up [Q] / () to finish with a 7-5-4-3-A and knock dumBBass86 out in eighth.
The last two hands before the 10-hour break then saw two more eliminations as Phil "MrSweets28" Galfond and Ami "UhhMee" Barer successively hit the rail.
The stakes were still 20,000/40,000 when a hand arose in which Galfond raised with a showing, Philych_085 raised from a seat over with a , and Galfond called. Picking up a on fourth, Philych_085 led with a bet, then MrSweets28 who'd drawn a [J] raised all in for 35,104 and Philych_085 called. Their hole cards were revealed and the three remaining streets were dealt:
Philych_085: ()() / [Q] / ([A])
MrSweets28: ()() / [J][K][A] / ()
Galfond had ended with a 9-8-7-6-A, but Philych_085 had a 6-5-4-3-A and MrSweets28 was sunk in seventh.
The next hand saw Barer raising with a up, nebo_blizko reraising with an [A], and UhhMee calling. Barer had but 3,692 left and it went in after he was dealt a on fourth, and nebo_blizko called after getting a [T]. Their cards face up, the showdown went as follows:
UhhMee: ([K])([) / [Q][J] / ()
nebo_blizko: ([T])() / [A][T] / ()
Barer ended with a J-low, not enough versus nebo_blizko's T-9-5-4-A, ending UhhMee's run in sixth.
Barer already has a SCOOP title from 2012 in a no-limit Omaha Hi/Lo event, and has made quite a run in this year's WCOOP in his effort to add more COOP-related jewelry to his collection. He's now made three final tables and cashed 10 times in the 2013 WCOOP, good enough for a spot inside the top five currently in the WCOOP Player of the Series race.
They returned and after a couple of orbits the stakes were 25,000/50,000 when another knockout took place.
DaliaAllin continued to enjoy the chip lead, and after being dealt an [A] up raised and got two callers in nebo_blizko with a and römpsä with a . römpsä then led the next two streets, with only DaliaAllin calling on fourth and then raising on fifth with römpsä calling with the 44,712 remaining.
DaliaAllin: ()() / [A][K]
römpsä: ()() / [K]
DaliaAllin was then dealt a and a [J] to finish with a 8-7-6-5-A, and that proved best as römpsä picked up a [J] then a [T] to end with a T-6-5-3-2.
DaliaAllin continued to lead over the next several hands, even crossing up over the 1 million-chip mark, but soon the tide turned and soon Philych_085 had edged in front while DaliaAllin slipped to fourth of four.
Then with the stakes still at 25,000/50,000 a three-way hand developed in which nebo_blizko and Philych_085 both called a third-street open from DaliaAllin, then all three checked fourth. On fifth DaliaAllin led with a bet, nebo_blizko folded, Philych_085 raised, DaliaAllin reraised all in for 136,612 total and Philych_085 called.
Philych_085: ()() / [K][A]
nebo_blizko: (X)(X) / [A][K][J] -- FOLDED
DaliaAllin: ()() / [J][A]
Philych_085 next drew a [K] and a to finish 8-6-5-2-A, and that proved enough as DaliaAllin was dealt a [J] and a to end with J-7-6-3-A and finish in fourth.
With just three left, Philych_085 was way in front with more than 1.54 million while Tygem had a little over 595,000 and nebo_blizko almost 437,000.
Those three battled for a dozen hands with Philych_085 adding still more to climb over 2 million while nebo_blizko and Tygem both fell to less than 250,000.
Then Philych_085 won two more big pots to knock both Tygem and nebo_blizko down to less than a big bet each, and suddenly came a hand in which both of the short-stacked players were all in on third street.
Tygem drew out ([Q])() / [J][K] / () for a Q-low, which beat Philych_085's K-low. nebo_blizko ended with ()() / [T] / (), however, for a 9-8-7-6-5 to win the hand and end Tygem's run in third.
Philych_085 had 2,482,812 to nebo_blizko's 89,688 to start heads-up play. nebo_blizko won the first hand between the pair, doubling with a T-low versus Philych_085's Q-low. But the next hand saw nebo_blizko all in by fifth street with ()() / [Q][Q] versus Philych_085's ([Q])([A]) / .
nebo_blizko would then draw an and a to pair twice and make a Q-8-7-4-3, while Philych_085 picked up a and a to end with a 7-6-4-3-A to win the hand and WCOOP title.
Congratulations to Philych_085 for topping a small but tough field including many of online poker's best to win the Event #50 bracelet! And kudos as well to nebo_blizko who after winning a SCOOP watch in 2012 in a "quad shootout" event came just one step shy of earning another COOP title tonight.
