Time to get started, the day we call "WCOOP Day" is finally here

Those of us who work on the PokerStars Blog got a little excited yesterday. I wouldn't say we did a jig or anything, but there may have been some shoulder-clenching as a shiver of anticipation struck us. For today, unofficially at least, is "WCOOP Day" which always generates a little excitement. Here's why.

Today the proper countdown to the World Championship of Online Poker 2014 finally begins, with event schedule and a full timetable of satellites now available. After the other 'COOPs and even the WCOOP Challenge Series, it's time to set our eyes firmly on what's coming up in almost exactly a month, when the first Championship gets underway, concluding three weeks later with the Main Event, with a guaranteed prize pool of $10 million.

But it's about more than just clearing the diary. From today onwards players can effectively get their WCOOP Main Event campaign started, as you'll see in the PokerStars lobby.

Under Events > WCOOP > All, you'll find listed Main Event Mega-Path Satellites, neatly lined-up in full--with 19 on offer today alone--as well as each of the 66 WCOOP events to be played. It goes without saying that satellites for those will be forthcoming.

Here are some of the events that will highlight the Championship this year.

WCOOP-09: $1,050 NL Hold'em [Super Tuesday SE]
WCOOP-18: $320 NL Hold'em, [Turbo, Zoom]
WCOOP-23: $10,300 NL Hold'em [8-Max, Re-Entry, High Roller]
WCOOP-44: $10,300 NLHE [High Roller, Heads-Up]
WCOOP-63: $2,100 HORSE
WCOOP-65: $10,300 8-Game [High Roller, Re-Entry]

So while you can buy directly into any WCOOP tournament, there's the Mega-Path option for those on a more streamlined budget.

These events, with buy-ins of a mere 2 FPPs, offer the cheapest (can you say "most free"?) way to play the WCOOP Main Event which this year has a guaranteed prize pool of $10 million.

Finish deep enough to qualify from one of these Mega Path satellites and you'll find yourself with a seat into a Round 2 Mega-Path satellite, where you can do it all again for a place in Round 3. What comes next? Glad you asked. Finish well enough there to earn a spot in a Round 4 Mega-Path satellite, which leads to--you guessed it--Round 5. Skip forward a bit, and eventually you'll find yourself in the Mega-Path Final (effectively Round 8), and one step away from a seat worth $5,200 in the WCOOP Main Event itself on Sunday September 28.

That's all there is to it!

Of course, these are just the early stages, and naturally you can skip any number of these rounds to depending on your FPP balance. There will also be a full schedule of satellites, to suit all bankrolls, coming up in the next days and weeks.

But if it's a story you're after, you can do a lot worse than playing a 2 FPP re-buy satellite and six weeks later winning the tournament of a life time with a seven figure first prize.

No wonder we call this WCOOP Day!

Check out the PokerStars lobby for all the latest satellites, running at various times throughout the day. You can also get a glimpse of what's in store when WCOOP begins on September 7 by checking out the WCOOP webpage. Not only will you find details of all the events, but you can also learn a little about the history of the Championship, past winners, and details of this year's Player of the Series race.

It's only the first step towards the highlight of the online poker calendar, but it's a step nonetheless. So for now, happy WCOOP Day! everyone.
