WCOOP 2016: Fifth title for Dan "djk123" Kelly headlines Day 15

Eleven new winners over the weekend including a fifth for Dan "dkj123" Kelly, and one for Fabrizio "SixthSenSe19" Gonzalez, good enough to put him top of the leader board. There were also great performances by Connor "blanconegro" Drinan and others to ensure changes for positions behind SixthSenSe19. Three more WCOOP events kick off the final full week of WCOOP today, while four more events conclude.

Day

15

The headlines from the fifteenth day of WCOOP 2016

Monday's during WCOOP are a fairly hectic time. Trying to pick out the main stories from nearly a dozen events played over the weekend can often send you round in circles. So apologies in advance if we get this wrong, but we're putting Dan "djk123" Kelly's result up top.

dan_kelly_wcoop_19sept16.jpgDan "djk123" Kelly

The reasons are fairly obvious. Kelly earned his fifth WCOOP title this weekend in Event #49, the first Mix-Max event, going from eighth handed tables, to six handed, to four handed. Aside from yet another title, the win was worth more than $88,000 to Kelly, along with the plaudits of congratulations to an admiring poker public.

Were it not for Kelly's performance we'd likely have just talked about Fabrizio "SixthSenSe19" Gonzalez in the paragraphs above. Instead let's take about him now.

Gonzalez won Event #43 on Saturday, and a first prize of more than $30,000. Not the biggest prize, but more significantly it puts him at the top of the leader board at the start of the week, a leader board that looks a lot different than it did when we signed off on Friday. More on that below.

Had both Kelly and Gonzalez gone out over the weekend, or lost Wi-Fi connection, then Connor "blanconegro" Drinan would have been the headline. Drinan, who has been among the leaders for Player of the Series from Day 1 (when he won Event #5) and nearly scored a second title in Event #55. Jason Kirk's recap tells the story of one of the harder final table line up so far this WCOOP, ultimately won by clinc3.

We could spend a lot more time poring over these latest results, highlighting multiple final tables for Shaun Deeb and Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro, but the best way to look those up is to click through the links in the box scores below.

Current leader board standings

Like we said it was all change at the top of the leader board. SixthSenSe19 now holds a clear lead after a win and three cashes worth a combined 140 points over the weekend. That puts him an almost comfortable 45 points ahead of second placed Connor "blanconegro" Drinan, who of all the players in the top ten has impressed most in terms of consistency, never being lower than fifth place. He's in second with 360 points after narrowly missing out on a second WCOOP title of the year in Event #55.

Behind him is Andrey "Kroko-dill" Zaichenko, who led going into the weekend, with former leader zzwwzzwwzz behind him and then Bluf_To_Much (who shared Friday's lead with Zaichenko) and Shaun Deeb, who scored fourth place twice this weekend, on 310 points.
